Calling all Mainer PGR's... I have sent out an email to all of you. Mike, our State Captain has also sent out the date and time of SFC Shawn C. Dostie's mission ride. If you have not received our emails...please let us know so we can add you to our lists!
Maine is not the place to be riding in the winter...what is it now.. 0 degrees & iced over? Remember SAFETY FIRST...I will be in my 4 wheels.
Oh by the way mike....count me in and I am bringing my significant other...Sgt. Pete in his DCU's! I look forward to meeting you all at the stagging area. Don't forget your flags!

Anyone that wants to respond to this one...please feel free:
As a civilian...I do not know all the do's and don'ts...so please correct me if my knowledge is wrong!
US Flags are to be mounted on the right side of the bikes...correct? Which Arm is the PGR Arm band to be worn on? Servicemen and Veterans salute...civilians have hand on heart.
SOS...and thanks!

Well lets see if I can give you some of my input, whatever that may be worth......
1. The American flag is always on the right.....so, if your seated on your bike facing forward, the flag would be on your right.....One other note, no other flag should be flown higher than the American Flag...
2. Armband....I'm not sure if this has been discussed, personally I will be wearing mine on my Left arm....see#3
3. Hand salute........this has been discussed, Since I do render a Hand salute, that is the reason I wear my armband on my left arm. As to who should or should not salute, well, even if your not a Vet or Active duty, but you do know how to salute, I don't believe anyone would get on your case. If you feel more comfy with placing your hand over your heart, that is also more than acceptable.....
Respects,
Ed |

I have recently received an email from a Maine PGR very concerned about me (and/or the state captain) expecting riders to bring their bikes out in Maine Winter Months!
I can't stress this enough: SAFETY FIRST! as I have stated this above on Jan 16th and also in emails! I have also mentioned that I will be in my CAR not on my motorcycle. I can't insist that anyone ride or drive. That is each individuals choice: ALL I can do is stress SAFETY FIRST!
See you all soon! |

I'm taking the liberty to post the following email recently received from Asha (HighSalute).
Hi Everyone: As you are already aware: SFC Dostie's funeral Services Tuesday, January 24th @ 7pm at Fortin's Funeral Home, Turner Street, Auburn, Maine. Staging place will be in the " Office Max " parking lot on Union Street beginning. Schedule is as follows: 6:00 pm Parking Lot @ Office Max 6:20 pm Depart for Funeral Home to arrive by 6:30pm (before Family arrives) 6:30-6:40 pm Parents & other Family Members arrive to get ready for service 7:00 pm Service begins (shouldn't last more than 30 minutes) 7:30 - 8:00pm Family members & friends depart ? Then we will depart. Please remember to bring flags and dress for the weather, we will be outside. State Captain and I have placed orders with the PGR store for items, however, they may night be in on time! Anyone traveling on the highway to Auburn: take Auburn exit off highway . At the light at the end of the exit take a left. Continue for a couple of miles and you will come to a main intersection with Denny's on the right. Continue straight through this intersection and come to Office Max also on your right! I'll be in the parking lot (far away from the store's entrance with my flashers on). I look forward to meeting you all. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call! Thanks, Asha

Folks, Any protest group is not a security concern. Trust me, they have extremely efficient intelligence networks. The only reason I can think of not to post the information regarding services, staging , etc. is if the family requests that we not do so. Cruizer, you did the right thing unless I hear some different information from Mike. Jeff |

Folks,
Thanks for coming out. The family appreciated the fact that we were there, obvious by the way they came out and spoke with us.
I went inside and met with Mrs. Shawn Dostie and gave her our condolences, signed the guest book, and returned to the group outside.
Asha, thanks so much for all your help, you're a strong willed woman, a real trooper and it's a real pleasure to work with you (by the way, she's a pretty attractive gal besides)
We are a brand new group, with a mission on our plate a week after my joining. I am quite certain with the quality members in our core group that the State of Maine PGR will become a strong and visible presence representing the national group.
Special thanks to Jim, Cruiser and Sgt. Scott for your help, it looks like we just made a lot of new friends. I know it meant a lot to them...and, well, we all know...it's OK to get a little misty-eyed.
Hopefully our next event will be a parade.
Again, thanks to all you veterans for your service on our behalf, and to those wives and moms as well.

Asha, Very nice report Asha. Know what we forgot? The camera. Oh well. After I got home last night, I found momma waiting up for me as expected with supper in the oven. We talked for a while as I ate my supper. I told her about the family and friends who came to us to personally thank us and how honored it made me feel. As sacred and touching simply being there was to me, I remember the diverse conversations the five of us had when we were alone the most. Jim is quite a guy. I firmly believe there isn't too much this warrior hasn't done or seen. And then there was Sgt. Scott. Didn't talk much, but then he didn't have to. Just being there in uniform spoke volumes. To be honest though, there were a couple of times when I contemplated letting him wear my winter coat over those desert cammies. Poor guy must have been frozen by the time you all got back into the car. Mike, it was a pleasure meeting you. Don't forget to say "hey" to Arthur Lerman for me. I heard what you were saying about possibly getting together for other events and such. Count me in. I'll help out in any way I can.
Asha, you girl are by no means the low person on the totem pole if there is such a thing. You are a military wife who has had to see her husband off to fight on foreign soil. You currently have a son serving overseas. Let me tell you something. For those of us who have been far from home for extended periods, the simple thought of our loved ones, safe at home, carried us through tough times. It is what made our jobs just a little easier and our rotation back stateside a much anticipated event. Keep on doing what you do. You're tops in my book.

It was a simple but awesome sight to behold: Older Victorian home transformed into a funeral parlor. Six inches of fresh snow covered the ground. A damp cold filled the air of 32 degrees.
Five people from all walks of life lined the walkway of the entrance, holding high American flags. They had gathered together to honor this fallen hero: SFC. Shawn C. Dostie. Jim: a Vietnam Veteran: Don: a retired Soldier of the Vietnam & Gulf Era. Sgt. Scott, a current warrior and Veteran of Operation Iraq Freedom; Mike: a State of Maine Representative; and then me: least of all in 'service' rank, but no less in heart.
Looking towards the Vietnam Veteran for guidance, he provided the details of the 'little' but 'important' things. And arranged us all on the walkway. There we stood in the damp cold, greeting the family members and friends as they walked through us and filled the Memorial Service. For over a half an hour, they continued to drive up and file in. Some were unsure: should they walk down the walkway through us, or walk around? While others took a 'double take' not understanding who we were and why we were standing their with our flags.
SFC. Dostie's father (Robert) came out and introduced himself to us. He shook each one of our hands and thanked us for being there. I passed along PGR's sincerest condolences on the loss of his son, our American Hero. I was now choking back the tears.
We were invited inside several times by family members, and each time we graciously declined: We were to stand in honor of SFC. Dostie, his service, and his unselfish, ultimate sacrifice to protect us and ours.
The service began and we heard several songs played: "I'm Already There" ; "American Soldier" and the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". (Which gave us a bit of insight into this Hero and His family). The service ended and the family members and friends began once more to slowly walk through us, thanking us for being there.
Then, unexpectedly, SFC. Shawn C. Dostie's wife emerged from the Memorial Service and approached us. Speaking with each one of us, she thanked us for being here. I gave her a hug and once again conveyed PGR's condolences. Tears welled in my eyes. I overheard Mike thank her for 'her' service & sacrifice. And the last thing I remember is seeing her give Jim a hug! Now you gotta picture this: Mrs. Dostie: a strong & courageous women in the midst of adversity, striking in appearance, dressed conservatively reaching out and hugging Jim (a vietnam veteran draped in his leather vest equipped with dangling biker chains, jeans and steel toed boots!). What a sight to see.
We came to Honor our Fallen Hero and support His family: With our Mission Complete, we all returned to our corners in the State of Maine.
To Our American Hero: SFC. Shawn C. Dostie : Rest in Peace To His Family: May God's peace & comfort strengthen you.
ps...thanks to Jim for taking up the lead on those little but important things, Don for seeing the 'heart' instead of the error, Pete for keeping us lighthearted, and Mike for the awesome badges you made for us.
