Governor Confirms Fallen Soldier with Maine Ties
January 1, 2006
Governor's Office

AUGUSTA – Governor John E. Baldacci today noted the loss of Sergeant First Class Shawn Christopher Dostie, an active duty member from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. SFC Dostie has family in Maine. He died on December 30 from an IED attack in Baghdad, Iraq. SFC Dostie’s family has been notified of his death.

“This loss, during the holiday season, is especially hard to bear,” said Governor Baldacci. “The citizens of Maine join in extending our prayers and respect to Shawn’s family, and we remember all those serving their state and country away from home.”

No other information is available at this time.

any help from anyone is appreciated.

I will continue to search out more information. Once confirmation on where the funeral will be held, I will ask that the state be changed if necessary. At this time however, its still up in the air since no further information is available.

Respects,

Ed

04 Jan 2006 2:25 PM Alert

Apparently there are several Dosties in Maine. This is from a Portland, Maine news release:

Shawn Dostie was not related to Maine National Guard Spc. Thomas Dostie, 20,
of Somerville, who was among 22 people killed in a suicide bomber attack in
Mosul, Iraq, in December 2004, said Baldacci spokeswoman Joy Leach.

I do understand however, that he has ties in Maine with family members. I have info on his wife and 2 daughters, but will hold it for now.

Good job CG. I believe contacting, involving, and working with/through the CAO's is the way to go. If anyone doesn't know how to find the CAO's in their area give a shout.

Sorry to post so much but as I find out info, I post:

Another service will be held in Lewiston in about two weeks, Stephanie Dostie said. She and the children plan to move to Lewiston to be close to Shawn's parents.

Maine Ride Captains need to watch for this.

Spoke with Adjutant General Libby in Augusta on Tuesday Morning having left a message Monday. He told me he would give me the funeral and family contact information as soon as he got it.

I spoke with the State Rep from Lewiston yesterday morning about the family. She didn't know who they were yet, but we have a good local family (Cunningham) who had a similar loss earlier. They are also offering support.

Information is slow in coming this time.

This will be our third funeral in my part of the state.  We've lost eleven brave warriors.

Godspeed to them, and rest their souls.

Our heartfelt thanks to them and to all veterans and active duty members for serving our country.
