I was proud to be part of this mission as a PGR member and just a citizen as well. I want to make sure people understand how much work was put into this mission. The size and scope of things going on this weekend successfully can only be a credit to our State Captain and Officers and Ride Captains. It is a team effort but so many details were planned for and taken care of long before most members even arrived in Batavia, Oh. Bob you have surrounded yourself with good people and it showed this weekend. Sometimes the man at the top should get a little credit also.
I hope now the Maupins can now find the peace they so richly deserve. |

Heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you that attended. When I first joined the PGR I wondered why Ride Captains didn’t stand the Flag Line much. Then as I became a Ride Captain I learned just how many details there were to be taken care of, and how things could (and usually did) change at the last minute making your plans inadequate. If putting on an Honor Mission with 50 bikes is a challenge, I can’t even imagine what a mission with an estimated 5000 bikes must have been like. SC Bob Woods and his crew did an absolute outstanding job of organizing this event. And as a Road Captain, I don’t believe Steve Verrigni has an equal. There didn’t seem to be an attitude or ego to be found. Everyone did whatever they were asked to do, when and how they were asked to do it. The only difficulty seemed to be keeping everyone updated with the near constantly changing schedules. I had the Honor of being the first “cage” riding sweep, a task my little blue S-10 seemed built for. With the escorts being so long, going from city streets to interstates and back again, the “slinky” effect had the tail ranging from full stop to 70 mph. Even so, only 3 flags lost and zero casualties. When we first pulled out from the Yellow Ribbon Center, it took so long to get all the bikes out of the parking lot that I wondered if the leaders were already stopped at the Ball Park. And I certainly won’t forget how much local law enforcement helped out with blocking intersections and ramps. Couldn’t have done it without you guys. To the best of my knowledge there was only one bike that had to fall out with mechanical issues, while we gained several bikes en-route. Never came anywhere close to seeing the front of the line. There’s a big grin on my face just thinking about it. Thanks to all who rode. You’re the best. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who worked behind the scenes and contributed to the success of this mission, and we are in debt to each of them. But we can’t forget we owe this all to the Maupin’s. If it weren’t for their graciously sharing one of the worst days of their lives, this would have been just another weekend, not the largest Mission in Patriot Guard History. Thank You, Keith and Carolyn. You took the time to shake hands, give and receive hugs, or just make eye contact as your limo rode past. We haven’t the words to express our sorrow, or our thanks. I hope that the books and letter I left for you bring comfort and strength. You shall continue to be in our prayers.
Finally to all who inquired about the mission decals I ran out of. Since this is not the place, just click on the link at the left and e-mail me.

This was my first PGR mission, needless to say I was amazed by the sheer number of PGR folks. The ride was safe, well organized, and very moving. I shed many tears as we rode in support of SSgt Maupin and his family. The outpouring from the many people lining both routes Saturday and Sunday truly renewed my faith in the human spirit. It is unfortunate that SSgt Maupin had to make this sacrifice, but it truly brought a major American city together as one even if for only a few hours. I met some really great people this weekend, I hope to make as many missions as I possibly can. Thanks to all of you for making this such an awesome experience.

I wanted to Thank every RC, and the Ohio SC, for the awesome mission you guys put on for Matt and his family. I watched the live stream on the internet, and I was so proud of how many PGR folks showed up to Honor the Maupin family. The flagline looked beautiful, and I firmly believe the Lord had his arm around Matt as they watched with pride. Rest in Peace, Matt. Our family is your family Mr. and Mrs Maupin, Micah. IF ever you need anything you can count on Ohio and GA, to name a few states, willing to be by your side.
WE WILL NEVER FORGET |

| Keith and Carolyn, you are my inspiration. You have shown me personally many kindnesses even though I have always been a stranger. You have reached out to so many others, in their time of grief, and loss. And now, the saddest thing of all, at hopes end, he is returned to be here with us forever.
I never knew Matt, yet I have cried like a baby about his loss in private moments, and I don't quite know why. But it was an honor to share this time with your family, and to try to help all to understand the importance of each of these young heros. Their sacrifice is not in vain, and is not lightly accepted. They do what they did because of their commitment to this country even when many do not feel that commitment as strongly. These young men and women are stepping up to form America's next greatest Generation.
But, members of the Guard, you are mightily awesome too. For so many, in their loss and disappointment have said, never again will we forget our brothers and sisters who go and fight and give their all, or allow them to be disrespected. You who go to see them off with their families, so they know folks really do care for them and believe in them. And those who celebrate their safe return as happens so often. Guard members who come from all walks of life and situation to suffer in the sun, and rain and heat and cold just to make sure loved ones and families know this country at its soul appreciates everything they have given especially when what is given is the most precious thing a parent or a family member has.
As usual, I am just in awe of everyone who came from near and far to be here for Matt. I am in awe of Bob Woods our State Captain for making all of this possible and the other Ohio and Kentucky and Indiana Ride Captains who stepped up to the plate and hit this one out of the Ball Park. As well as Rolling Thunder and Task Force Omega and all of the other groups who pitched in and worked with us as a team to make this happen. Weeks of planning went into this mission and you could tell it. Thanks to Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan and so many others who seemed to stream in to fill our ranks each time they were thinning. It was an honor to meet each and every one of you even though we probably couldn't remember each other a week from today. The Yellow Ribbon Support Center volunteers and Blue Star Mothers who hovered over all who were working and all who were visiting bringing comfort, food and a smile to the tired and weary. And the various Law Enforcement Officers who helped in any way they could, were kind and inspiring and professional each moment. And, I also want to say to the Members of the 724th, you guys rock. Matt couldn't have had more devoted friends and comrades.
God bless everyone who came to help and every one who came to pay their respects to Matt. Nothing can make me prouder of Americans then moments like these. And God bless Keith and Carolyn Maupin and their family in this time of grief that they may continue to touch folks as they have in the past and not give into bitterness which is not their way. And may God Bless Matt and keep him close for his life truly mattered.
To all of those who say this was too much, understand, as best I can tell from the other members of the Patriot Guard and especially for me, we all would have preferred not to have done this at all. I don't know anyone who doesn't like welcome home missions better.
God bless you all,
LET US ALWAYS REMEMBER AND CHERISH THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM BECAUSE FREEDOM'S PRICE IS DEAR INDEED.

Keith and Carolyn - I know you've heard a lot of words over the past 4+ years and nothing I say will really make your loss easier to bear but I can definitely relate to your feelings. As has been said by many, Matt is riding with the King now and he will always be in the sun.
I also want to say that I am very happy that my brother, Robert Woods, was able to provide assistance to you both during this troubled time. He is one hell of a brother.

God bless everyone who stood for Matt this weekend. God Bless our State Captain (Bob Woods) for putting this together so flawlessly - you make it look easy sir. This was a truly honorable weekend and that makes me an even prouder American and even prouder PGR member.
A heartfelt thank you to the Maupins for allowing us to honor their son and partake in their final moments with him.
There is nothing that I can say that hasn't been said already or said better then I could. I'm still in awe and very humbled by the entire weekend. |

After Action Report
SSG Keith Matthew Maupin
On 30 March 2008, I was given the Honor of being part of TEAM MAUPIN. This team was made up of the Maupin Family, Yellow Ribbon Support Center personnel, the United States Army, the Union Township Police Department, the Cincinnati Police Department, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
Keith and Carolyn wanted to make sure the community that supported them the past four years had a chance to say “Welcome Home” and “Good-bye” to Matt. The planning began, and after several days of planning and meetings it was apparent that
SSG Keith Matthew Maupin’s Home Coming was going to be larger than anyone ever imagined.
At this point the Team had three weeks to plan one of the Tri-States biggest events ever for a fallen Warrior. One of the first concerns was finding places big enough to hold the thousands that would come.
Union Township Civic Center was chosen for the Visitation. The folks that run the Civic Center did a great job in making things work. The lines going into the Visitation area were long but everyone was orderly and respectful of each other. The lines moved smoothly. The area Matt was in became a very special place. It truly was awesome. The Moore Funeral Home out did them selves.
The Blue Star Mothers of America Chapter 3 did a fantastic job of feeding the thousands of people that needed food and drink for 20 hours nonstop. Ladies what a wonderful job you did. Thank You.
The Union Township Police were “OUTSTANDING.” You served your community very well and it was my honor and privilege to work with you. The Patriot Guard Riders were treated with the utmost respect.
The City of Cincinnati, OH was equally “OUTSTANDING.” They welcomed SSG Keith Matthew Maupin and the thousands of people with open arms so we could honor our native son’s return home.
The Cincinnati Police Department in conjunction with the Sheriff’s department and other local agencies were stellar in their movement of traffic and people.
To the Ownership of the Great American Ball Park, What a Class Act you are. Your staff made Matt’s service remarkable.
Gate of Heaven Cemetery is a fitting place for Matt’s final resting place; he is there with other comrades as well. The Butler County Sheriff’s Caisson Unit did an excellent job as well.
I would like to say to the United States Army; Thank you for bringing Matt Home.
I know you all worked tirelessly on making his homecoming happen.
I cannot thank all of the PGR members enough for your help. The State Captain’s and Ride Captain’s for other states when asked, stepped-up and helped make this mission of Honor, Respect, and Dignity just that. The only thing I can say is “THANK YOU”.
To all of the other motorcycle organizations and clubs that were there, thank you for your support and helping out as well.
I want to thank the Community of Union Township and the City of Cincinnati for their hospitality.
In closing, Keith and Carolyn thank you for allowing the Patriot Guard Riders to be a part of Honoring your Son for his Ultimate Sacrifice to his Country. It truly was an Honor to be a part of Matt’s Home Coming.

It was a honor to stand with my fellow thousands of patriots, to honor the sacrifice of this hero, and the Maupin family. Nothing we can say can change the loss, but know that we are always there to support and honor and protect the memory of what keeps our country free. It is our mission to make sure that no dishonor is allowed to interfere. I would say that this mission was successful. I am proud to be a part of it. I rode with fellow PGR members from Frankfort, Ky. on Sunday, and was in total awe to see the number of bikes. It brings tears. America is the greatest place on earth. Dave C.

| I was proud to be part of such an awe inspiring mission. Bob Woods I salute you and all of the ride captains. Keith and Carolyn may you receive the comfort from the Lord which you so rightly deserve. I was emotionally drained at the end of the mission but I will never forget the true meaning of such a mission. God Bless |
