*******************STAGING INFORMATION*******************
Following information from Buddy Palla, RC for this mission:
The staging location will be at the Dollar General store in Marmet.
From the WV Turnpike (I77/I64), take exit 89 and head towards the river. If you are coming from the North, you will turn left after you exit and follow the sign towards 61N; from the south, you will exit right . At the bottom of the hill, turn left at the traffic light (there will be a Rite Aid store slightly off to the right). Travel 6 tenths of a mile on Rt 61N towards the center of Marmet...the road will weave around a couple of turns. You will see a Dollar General store on the right, with a Long John Silver's and Wendy's directly across the street on the left. Go just past the Dollar General and turn right on 91st Street; there is a small white sign on the signpost that says, "Leonard Johnson Funeral Home." We will meet at the rear parking lot of Dollar General, this will put us about two blocks from the funeral home. If you're hungry, or need a bathroom stop, Wendy's is very convenient.
I will not know until later this evening if the family wants an escort to the cemetery, but the funeral director is going to stage us on the street in front of the funeral home. If we end up escorting, we will be in perfect position. If we are not escorting, we will still be in perfect position to head out first for the cemetery and get our flag line set up before the procession arrives.
The cemetery is about 9 miles from Marmet, and we will not be travelling on the interstate highway. Procession speed should be about 35 mph. There should be two State Troopers present with their cruisers...they were in the APS unit with Tom Clute. They will provide escort service for us, if needed, as per the APS Chief I talked to today.
The roads in the cemetery are all paved, so there should not be any problem for those of us on ponies, however, since we may be parking on the side of the road, I would recommend bringing a plate for your sidestand. The funeral director did not know the exact location of the grave inside the cemetery; I will try to find out as soon as possible.
The temperature tomorrow should be in the mid to upper 40's, so everyone will need to dress accordingly, especially those on two wheels. The funeral director estimates the service will last about 45 minutes, so we'll be outside for about two hours in Marmet. Our flag line will be pretty much sheltered from any wind, so things shouldn't be too bad. The cemetery is on a hill, and wind, or wind chill, could be a factor.
Buddy ***************** CONFIRMED, SHORT NOTICE ********************
This is now a Confirmed Mission for Senior Master Sergeant Clute. The family has requested PGR participation in the Senior's services.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 1300 (1 PM) at the Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, 8706 California Ave., Marmet, WV (http://tinyurl.com/2ooeh6) with interment to follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Glasgow, WV.
Staging till be at 1115 at a location to be determined tomorrow (Monday) during visitation. Please monitor the mission thread for precise location.
Flag line will be provided during final services and at the cemetery. If requested, escort to the cemetery will follow.
Understanding the very short notice of this confirmation, all who are able are requested to make an effort to stand for SMSGT Clute. He gave of his time for us, it is our opportunity to show his family our appreciation for that service.
Respects,
Joe _________________________________________________________________________ Senior Master Sergeant Thomas Clute, 56, a member of the West Virginia Air National Guard, passed away Saturday, 8 Mar 08, while on weekend training in Charleston, WV.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time but our offer of Patriot Guard Riders participation/support is being offered at this time. A final decision on our offer is expected to come sometime today but is anticipated to be accepted.
Should this become a Confirmed Mission, Anthony "Buddy" Palla will be the Temporary Ride Captain, with assistance from me and Bob (T-Bone) Smith.
Please follow this thread for information as it becomes available.
Thank you for all you do to show Honor and Respect to all in uniform, past and present.
