Sorry for the delay.
I have added a ride/mission report under the PGR Ride Report section.

A country's patriotism is not measured by how high they fly the flag or how loud they sing the National Anthem, it is measured by how they treat their warriors.

Respect for the military has sometimes been lost. This should not happen again....ever.
The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.

Very nice report and Mission Accomplished, Kelly. You once again came through nicely. Ohio and the PGR is very fortunate to have your services. Families wishes come first in all Missions of Respect. Your adherence to this National PGR policy is greatly admired. It is all about the family and supporting them.
I especially appreciate the insight into Ben's person. May the Rush Family know how much America appreciated their love one. It was a true honor to ride and stand for this man, no matter the conditions. |

Lance Corporal Rush was killed in a train accident while serving in the Marine Corp. He was stationed in Japan since June 2005. Chief Warrant Officer Danny Cole who escorted LCpl Rush home from Japan relayed to me what an giving person Benjamin was in that on his off duty time he would work with the local Japanese people and orphans. Truly a reflection of the values and kindness passed to him by his parents.
The day of the mission was stormy, high wind with gusts up to 35 MPH and intermittent thunder showers forecasted. When the group of 11 members that had met up for breakfast just East of Columbus pulled in to the staging location, we were greeted by three members from Michigan and one from Southern Ohio. Soon another thirteen members arrived and a briefing held with all 28 PGR members from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Our format for this mission was different due to the request of the family. We had a flag display at the church prior to the funeral service, then after the service started we moved to the cemetery and set up for another flag display. The critical part of this was leaving the church with 25 riders and three vehicles without anyone in the church hearing us. Well, the PGR members did it. I followed up with the CAO (who was very concerned about any disruption to the service) this morning, no one heard us leave.
The CAO, Gunnery Sgt. Delgado, talked to LCpl. Rush’s parents this morning, they asked that he pass along their gratitude for the support the PGR, VFW and Marines displayed to them yesterday. They were overwhelmed when they crested the hill and saw our formation at the gravesite.
I’d like to thank everyone that attended this mission, many from out of state and riding/driving through severe storms to and from Zanesville. Thanks to my fellow Columbus Ride Captains for the assistance and the members that brought extra flags for others to use. May we all meet again under different circumstances. Thank you also to Officer Sheets of the Zanesville PD for the escorts to the church and from the church to the cemetery, it made getting across town very easy.
Mr. & Mrs. Rush, please accept our sincerest condolences for the loss of your only child. We will remember Benjamin always for his service to our country. Thank you for allowing us to honor him.
Respectfully, |
