Mother of Sgt. Edward Davis, Nancy Komes of Bullhead City AZ, just received word this morning that her sons body will be at Camp Pendleton tomorrow WEDS. They had originally planned on going to CA this Fri or Sat and we were trying to arrange an escort. She wants to get down there ASAP and now will be leaving WEDs very early. Escort from Arizona to Camp Pendleton has been cancelled due to insufficiant time notice.....HOWEVER: This morning she was trying to arrange a memorial service in Bullhead City for next Thurs. I told her I would take care of it.

Mother of Sgt. Edward Davis III, Nancy Komes, had requested a memorial service for her son in her hometown. PGR has set it up at Amazing Grace Church, 2730 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. for 1:30 on Thurs the 11th. Pastor Josiah Dryhorn, a Vietnam Vet, will be presiding. The Flamingo Hotel and Casino, where Nancy is employed, has agreed to give us their limo and driver for the service. Route to be established as soon as I talk to Bullhead City Police Dept. Could use some large bike flags if anyone with a stock of them is passing near here.

A little background on Nancy, the mother of our hero. I have spoken with Nancy, and folks she is a courageous woman. She is married to a Vietnam veteran who is suffering from a medical condition caused by Agent Orange, which has not been easy on her. She has now lost her only son.

There is concern that members will not know which service to attend. This hero is set to be honored early enough that those of you who attend can make it to one of the afternoon services, if you so choose.

My heartfelt condonlences to the family of Sgt. Davis. My hometown is Oceanside. We moved there in '66 when my dad received orders for Nam. I was stationed at Pendleton when I did my tour with the Marines. My dad is retired and still living in Oceanside. I am living in Kansas, and have been active in the Patriot Guard since its start (I was a member of Mulvane ALR - where the PGR was born).

Do this Marine proud and escort him with the honor and dignity befitting a hero. I wish I could be there to join all of you who will be riding.

I wish I could ride with ya'll......my son-in-law is in the Navy based at Camp Pendleton (ACU-5) and live there with my daughter and new granddaughter. I'd be proud to have attended even though due to short notice, I'd have to rent a bike locally.

You Need not RIDE! You don't have to ride a motorcycle to be a member or to attend a Mission, All you have to be is a Patriot!!! We don't care how you get there Motorcycle, Car, truck, van, bus, bicycle, walk or ride with someone else hell you can even drive a FORD if you want to.
If you don't have a ride post a note and someone will pick you up if they can.
Thank you

All,

I am awaiting a return call from the Camp Pendleton Motorcycle Safety Center with regard to reflective vests and so on. If you are planning to attend and riding, please invest a couple of bucks into either an international orange or green safety vest with at least 4 sq/in of reflective surface front and rear. I am trying to get the Base to buy off on waiving this requirement but just in case. You will need one for both you and your passanger. I am trying to scrounge some up but I won't have very many.

Additionally, due to this taking place on base there will probably have to be a "Release From Liability" form filled out by each rider and passenger. Again, I am trying to get this waived for this instance. If the realease forms are required by base I will be at the Camp Pendleton Main Gate Parking lot at 0730 on Saturday with the forms. More to follow on this one too.

Finally, Ya'll need to make sure you have the following handy when ya hit the gate:

Drivers Lic with MC stamp
Registration
Proof of Insurance

I will post more as soon as I know it.

hey Tinyski,

Pegleg here.  I've gone to Camp Pendleton at least twice a month.  If you have Base Card either Retired or 100% Disabled from Service you just show them the Card and in you go.

If you don't they will know trikes don't need a Motorcycle Lic. and they will give you a Day pass.

I have a trike and have never had a problem.  Maybe because I'm a Marine.

A helmet, Reflector vest from Home Depot is fine $9.00 Shoes that cover your ankles, Jeans, Riding Glasses, I wear any pair I have they don't look at brand.

If you go thru Navel Base from Fallbrook, the Navy just checks one persons ID and includes everyone for that group.  It's not that hard.

I may be going and will go thru the Navel Station in Fallbrook, will let you know you could go as my guest.

Pegleg,

You're dead on with your reply. Not that they check brands but if the MP get a burr under their saddles they will look at the lenses to see if they are ballistic or not. Doesn't happen all the time but you never know who is on the gate.

If your gonna ride from Fallbrook let me know and I'll ride over with ya.

I have talked to the Operations Chief for MP Battalion Camp Pendleton. I will leave Del Taco a few minute early and go to the gate. The MPs are expecting us and as long as everyone has the safety gear we will get the wave through.
