The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in welcoming Lcpl Michael Murry, USMC, of Gladesville, WV as he returns from a tour of duty in the Sandbox.
Michael is due to arrive at Pittsburgh International Airport on 17 Nov 2007 between 1100-1130. Exact flight details will be provided later today.
This will be a two-state mission. Pennsylvania has graciously agreed to assist.
Staging for the Pennsylvania portion will be at 0930 at the rest area on I-79 just South of Bridgeville, PA. For those traveling down from the North, proceed to the Southpointe exit then turn around and go back North to the rest area. KSU between 1000-1015 to allow for ample time to arrive at PIT prior to his arrival.
Staging for West Virginia portion will be at 1300 at the West Virginia Welcome Center on the Southbound side of I-79.
The family will be taking Michael out for lunch upon his return to PIT. Any member desiring to escort them from PIT to WV is encouraged to do so, keeping in mind that they will be making a lunch stop at a location of their discretion and you will be required to wait for them to continue their glorious journey home. Map to Gladesville, WV available at: http://tinyurl.com/2ysreh
Please monitor this thread for updates as they become available. John Schwartz, WV HOTH director, and Dave Malloy, PA HOTH director, will post additional information as needed.
All who are able are encouraged to assist in giving Michael the Welcome Home he has earned and deserves. Thank you for your support.
Respects,
Joe Cumblidge
WV State Captain |

For clarification purposes and to ensure there is (hopefully) no confusion....this Welcome Home is open to ANYONE who desires to attend.
The staging location and time for, what was listed as, the Pennsylvania portion is NOT limited to PA members only, just as the staging location and time in West Virginia is NOT limited to WV members only.
Anyone, from any location is invited to participate in any portion of this mission. As always, we have no borders within the PGR. Respects, Joe |

Current forecast for Saturday in Pittsburgh is calling for a low of 33 on Friday with temperatures "rising" to a high of 42 on Saturday and a 30% chance of rain/snow showers.
The Morgantown, WV area is calling for a low of 31 on Friday, rising to a high of 48 on Saturday with a 30% chance of afternoon/evening showers.
Please, do NOT let the weather be a determining factor in your attendance. Cars, trucks, vans, or whatever you choose is MORE than suitable. What we desire is BODIES to show Michael how proud we are of his service to OUR country.
IF you choose to travel on 2-wheels, please exercise extreme caution especially in the early morning hours. Watch for black ice!
As plans are now, we will be met at the WV Welcome Center by a trooper from the WVSP who will lead the procession into Gladesville.
All out of staters, remember, we've not yet advanced to the 21st century in West Virginia. We are STILL a helmet state! Respects, Joe |

| Just got off the phone with Michael's Mother, Jean. Everything is still a go, just as reported previously. She's EXTREMELY excited, naturally, to be having him back home safely and is very, very grateful for what we will be doing tomorrow. He has NO idea this is taking place so, in her words, he'll "want to kill her" but I can think of nothing better to do on a Saturday morning then to welcome home another American soldier.....safe and sound!
All who plan to attend, remember to bring your flags with you. We WILL have flags in the airport and will attempt to give enough advance warning to those at the Welcome Center to have a flag line set up as we enter.
All, please, travel safe tomorrow. Be cognizant of the "critters" and the weather conditions.
Respects,
Joe |

What a truly glorious, memorable day!!!
Ten PGR members. from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia gathered at our designated staging area on a very brisk morning to prepare to welcome home another of our Heroes from his tour of duty in the Sandbox. Although temperatures hovered in the low 30's, two of our brothers from PA actually braved conditions to travel in on 2 wheels.
Making our way to Pittsburgh International Airport we anxiously awaited the arrival of Michael's flight, having the opportunity to meet and speak with Jean, his Mother, Marvin, his Father and his young sister. Soon, Jean received the news we all had been awaiting....HE WAS ON THE GROUND!!!
The PGR took our place in the center of the concourse while Jean and Marvin split up to watch both exits for some sign of their son. While there, we were joined by an unknown lady who just wanted to send her thanks along also. Before long, we saw this very tall young man, in civvies, making his way toward the concourse and his Father rapidly approaching to greet him. Needless to say, it didn't take too long for his Mother to find her way over to that side!!
What a very happy reunion it was!!! Hugs, tears of joy and much hand shaking as all welcomed Michael back to his home area.
We made our way to our vehicles, with our PA brothers having to pull away to tend to their own mission, awaiting Michael and his parents to retrieve his baggage and begin the journey back to West Virginia. As we entered the WV Welcome Center, our procession was greeted by a line of American flags on both sides of the exit ramp as more members from West Virginia were awaiting our arrival. Once again, more hugs and hand shakes greeted Michael as our true appreciation for his service was shown.
Under the very capable escort of Trooper Chris, and I apologize for forgetting his last name, we made our way toward Gladesville where, once again, we were greeted by other family and friends upon arrival.
Words cannot express the joy and happiness of doing a mission such as this. It is so much different from what we normally do and the best medicine one could ask for.
We did learn, while talking with Michael that he anticipates being sent back to the Sandbox for his THIRD tour of duty. We made it well known that we would happily return to welcome him home again.
My sincere thanks to each and every PGR member who took time out of their day to honor one of West Virginia's finest as he returned safely to his family. A special thank you goes out to those who travelled great distances to participate and to our brothers in PA who made sure they assisted in welcoming Michael, while also knowing they had a Mission of Honor to participate in this afternoon.
An extra thank you to Jean and Marvin for inviting us to be a small part of this very happy moment in your lives today. It was truly an honor and privilege to be there.
Finally, and most importantly, a HUGE THANK YOU is sent to LCPL DeWayne Michael Murray, USMC, for his honorable service to our country. Respects, Joe |
