I have never been on a PGR ride, until this one. When Frank came home from the mission in Manchester (his first), he was full of stories of good times, good people and emotions. I thought then, that I would like to be a part of at least one ride, before he leaves again for Iraq.
Fortunately, yet unfortunately, I got my chance yesterday. I was very impressed with the group and how welcomed the people of the PGR made me feel.
This was my first military funeral and I was so deeply touched and honored to be there. I realize the sacrifice that every soldier and his / her family makes and I feel as though I owe them so much, yet have so little to give. I do have to admit though, that while I was praying for Michael & his family, I was also praying quite hard that God keeps Frank safe while he is over there.
I hope the family of Michael knows how much it meant to us to be able to stand for him. He truly is a hero.

All:
This was the first mission I've been on. It was humbling and awe inspiring at the same time. The day started with the realization that this would be the hardest day in some families’ life. They were going to be burying their son, grandson, brother; the list could go on.
I realized the importance of this mission and its effect when the casket was brought thru the group of us as it entered the parking lot. Yes, we looked like a cornucopia of colors, faces and builds. But we had one goal in mind and one task handed to us. We looked at that task with the same importance as the secret service guards the president.
I would like to thank you all for showing me the importance of this duty, and to letting a civie in the ranks. Words are not needed, actions spoke just as loudly as the retort of the rifles discharging over the field of gravestones. Its effect on the heart and soul are beyond words.
I thank you all for the opportunity.

As a side note, Kerri’s feelings are in the same vein as mine. She was just as moved, and in awe as to the response of these people who took their time up to stand outside and try to be the silent but powerful voice of the public who morns the loss of someone.
To those who felt inconvenienced by our taking the streets up were ignorant of the fact that a man, a soldier, who is there to protect us, has passed. He deserves more that a procession. He deserves his dignity, honor, and respect for the sacrifice. Their failure to see that and realize it is a shame, and a loss to their generations to come. In some way we are their conscience, screaming for them to wake up.

At each mission I am impressed by the organization and teamwork that occures to make it a safe and successful event. Yesterday did not disappoint. Richcop, you guys did a fantastic job getting this together...thank you.
With all the crap that is going on in this country alone it does my heart good to be part of an organization that believes in doing the right thing. It is always an honor to ride with all of you. I apologize for not saying any goodbys. We beat feet outta there in order to get through Providence before the traffic got to bad.
Pvt. Michael Bouthot you took your place among Americas True Heros when you joined the military. Yesterday the angels folded thier wings, in respect, as you passed through the gates. Hold your head high and be proud for we that have been left behind are proud of you.

Yesterday was my first PGR mission and ride for this great American Hero - Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot. My wife and I both attended this event and would like to thank the PGR leadership for planning the day - it went extremely well. We would also like to thank all of the PGR members that attended and who made us feel welcome on our first mission. It was truly an honor to pay our respects to this young man. May God bless the family of this great young soldier - he will be sadly missed by all.
May he rest in peace forever.

To Mike’s family and friends again our deepest condolences, we hope
that you will find comfort knowing that Mike is with our Lord and that
he will always be with us in our hearts and prayers. We want to thank
you for allowing us to come and honor Mike and celebrate his life with
you. We hope that you feel the presents of the Lord as he guides you,
to understand why he has called Mike to his side. For those who did not
know Mike, we learned by his actions here on earth, Mike has always been a
guardian of good and we can take some comfort that he now watches over
all of us. God bless you Mike and your family.

To Pvt Bouthot, We will never forget the sacrafices that you and your family have made for this nation.
To the PGR, I can not say enough or echo others enough to say thanks for everything.
Thanks for serving those who serve both who have lost their lives and those who still serve and for vetrens everywhere.
Thanks for allowing so many people from different backrounds, histories, cultures etc to come together and become one to honor others and support theses families.
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great organization. I have only been able to participate in 2 rides but still am awed by what the PGR accomplishes with very little lead time. I am honored and proud to be a part of the PGR, and as a soldier leaveing very soon for my second deployment to Iraq, I know what the families endure as their loved ones leave home.
And to Snapshot... Thanks for capturing everything and taking the added time to create these wonderful dvd's so it is all recorded for us as memoirs. I can't thank you enough for all the extra efforts you put towards these pictures.
And last but definatly not least, Thanks for including EVERYONE. So many groups are selective, I am truely impressed that everyone welcomes everyone else. It doesn't matter if its a biker or in a cage they are welcome to participate. This also includes passengers, My girlfriend went on this ride as her first and I think a little nervous about not knowing anyone or what to do when but she was welcomed right into the ranks and people introduced themselves and joined us in conversation just like everyone else. Thanks for her as well.
Again Thanks for everything.

PS. As we prepare to leave, I have asked my Chain of Command to invite the PGR to our sendoff ceremony. I have already e-mailed our State Captain and let him know that this MAY be an event the PGR can do. I am awaiting word from my command but know that in my heart the PGR will be there no matter what.
There is a personal going away party on May 27th at the American Legion in Athol, MA. "Freeway's Girl"is setting everything up. I welcome any PGR members to drop by on Bike or in a cage as my extended family. It will be at night so I understand if this is not possible. It is also a pot luck type of meal, all I ask is that you contact "Freeway's Girl" at drgok@msn.com and let her know if you plan to stop in and she will give you any additional details.

First, To the family and friends of Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot ; Thank you for allowing us the privilege of honoring the memory of your son. I hope our presence reinforced the truth that people in this country care about our soldiers and respect what they do for us everyday. God bless you and Michael. Second, Nails; You did an outstanding job calling commands. I nominate you to be our designated (for lack of knowing what it is really called) front and center guy, whenever we have a local mission you attend ! Ohh yeah,. your flag .. it's in the hammer lane about a mile south of the exit for 123 on 24 NB. I woulda stopped to get it but I had to get home. Third, Snapshot; I watched the dvd from Spc. Rhoel's Mission and it was fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to document what we do and doing it in such a way that I can't find words to describe how I felt watching it. If I can ever do anything to help, even if it's just donating blank dvds please let me know. Fourth, To the service men and women that greeted and thanked us for being there; I feel funny being thanked for just doing what is right. It is the least I can do for someone that gave or risks their life for me and my country. I thank you for doing what you do. And last, To all my fellow PGR's, to all R.C.'s and S.C.'s, To all who make what we do possible; Thank you, What we do is so important. It lets the families know that someone other than themselves cares/grieves/respects what their lost Hero has done. It also brings it to the forefront for those locked into their daily grind who might have not have noticed.
That's all. Ed Hunt Lynn, Ma. |

Hiram, Thanks for the thumbs up. I'll take that job whenever asked. It is MY honor. I went looking for the flag today, but didn't see it. Also, I need your email. I got a couple pics to send you.
I hope to see everybody on Tuesday in New Bedford and Saturday out in Springfield. I'm almost out of vacation time at work from going to these things so I don't know how many more I can attend during the week, but as all of you do, I will do what ever it takes to get there.

Folks, a quick thank you to all who helped walk me through this first mission.
Merrywidow in particular, THanks alot.
Nails- While we waited in front of the church, I couldn't help but notice the stiffness of your stance. I watched, and I also stiffened. Your emotion was airborn and contagious and I felt proud to be being addressed by someone who's story I did not know but would blindly honor.
TO ALL: I also have a video I am making. I have all the footage from this mission all plugged in and I am going to take the footage from the New Bedford mission Tuesday and add it to it. It will be posted by Wednesday. With this in mind, anyone who is there Tuesday and is part of a satellite group such as the CVMA, please find me so I can collect your folks for a group picture. |

I could not have said this as well as Michael Bouthot's Mother did:
Dear Richard, This is Sue Bouthot. Mikes mom. I want to say thank you to you and all who rode for my sons funeral on the Friday May 5th. Mike would have loved it. As my daughter Amy said, she could just hear his voice "All this for ME?!" And I thought to myself "Yes Mike, for you. You deserved it my Mikey." I just wanted to say thank you. Please pass that on to the other riders. God Bless, Sue
Of course I responded with the feelings I know you all have and I have seen in your hearts.
Thank you Michael for your sacrifice you are our Hero and will never be forgotten! God Bless the whole Bouthot family and their friends.

This was from a Soldier, I got his permission to post this.
I have your pictures from the PV2 Bouthot funeral. First off let me say thank you for what you guys do. I serve now and even though i know alot of you have served I walked out of that church that day with a sense of pride. Secondly the woman who took the pictures is a good \photographer and she followed the general rule of not photographing the coffin thank you for that. I dont know what the future holds for me but i know what i hold for the future. I am an 18 yr old male who will be going to a warzone. And yet i feel safe as hell going because i know not only do my battle buddies have ny back but so do u guys. What you did that day by showing the family support like that is amazing. Like I said I went there feeling remorseful becasue my friend and brother in arms made the ultimate sacrifice but i left knowing that his death wasn't un noticed THANK YOU GUYS AND THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL SUPPORT AMERICA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I met with the Bouthot family last evening. I need to let you know how much I learned about Michael, the family and thier loss. Words cannot say how I feel. It was my honor to present them with our plaque and a special DVD from Snapshot. Thank you for your hard work Snapshot! Thank you to all the PGR on behalf of the Bouthot family. I am working on the details of a Memorial Concert for the fallen soldiers from Massachusetts that the Bouthots passed on to me. I will put out the info when I get it.
Here was just one email I thought I would add.
Thank you Rich. The video was beautiful please pass that on for us how so much we appreciated the honor that was given to Michael and the time taken to make that. Here is the picture I said I would send. God Bless, Sue

Hello PGR,
I am the sister of Sue Bouthot, Mike was my nephew. I have to thank you, The Patriot Riders, for your presence at his funeral at Grace Gospel Church and at the cemetery. I cried when we drove past your people lining both sides of the road with flags waving and standing at attention. I have tears in my eyes now as I write this. I too ride and have attended funerals in large rides, mostly for fellow riders who went down. I had been active in the motorcycle community but life has taken me away and rearranged my priorities. It really hit home to see all the bikes lined up, it was good to see. I still ride but not like I used to. My sister told me that you had sent her a dvd of Mike’s ceremony. I look forward to seeing it. Thank you once again for contributing to a beautiful military ceremony, very sad, but yes beautiful and filled with grace. Ride safely and pass this on to those involved.
Sincerely,
Ruth M.

I submitted to PGR National some of the general interest pictures that I took. They are now posted in the "Photo Gallery" in the folder named "Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot, 19, of Fall River, Mass". Hopefully I captured each of you in at least one photo posted there.
I normally save the up close and personal photos for the shows that I put together, since I take so many of them. I figured National wouldn't like my taking up all that space on their website. However, this time I did post one of those type pictures #19. This is Freeway69 (Frank) and his girl Rhonda. Freeway69 is the PGR member and soldier who will soon be leaving our shores very soon to do his second tour over in Iraq.

This was my first mission as a PGR. I just wanted to say "thank you" to everyone involved and everyone who helped me to understand what was expected of me., Merrywidow in particular. I'm terrible with names but everyone really made me feel welcome.
Kudos to the ride and state captains. Mission went off without a hitch as far as I could tell.
Michael may you rest in peace and may your family know how much your service and sacrifice mean to this one particular American. Thank you to everyone.

| The mission for Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot took place on 5/5/06 It began when we were invited to attend the church service and the motorcade to the cemitary. Friday,5/5/06, began overcast but became sunny and hazey as the day passed. We started out by meeting up with several groups having safety briefing and heading to the staging area. We had over 100 bikes, trikes, and gages. After a safety briefing at the staging area we left at 1015 am with full Police escort by local LEO's to the church. We were lined up with two rows of motorcycles facing each other with just enough room for a row of vehicles to pass through. We brought all of our flags out and stood at the front of out bikes, and cages. As the procession came into the parking lot we came to attention and paid our respects by saluting as the hearse passed in between our formation of motorcycles. The whole procession continued to pass through our formation with many waving and saying thank you from thier cars. At that point they entered the church. As they came out of the church we were formed up away from out bikes and near the exit of the church to pay our respects as the hero was brought to the hearse. As we were lining up to follow the procession we peeled off in between our formation in a criss cross formation, which was a very impressive sight. We fell into the rear of the procession and continued to the cemitary. At the cemitary we formed up along side of the military and listened to a very touching speach. We followed military protical and payed our final respects. The funeral ended and we headed home. This mission was a success due to everyone getting involved and assisting the ride captains with multiple tasks. Speacial thanks to the family for inviting PGR, the location that let us use thier lot for staging, the LEO's for a fine job, the military who were very gracious, the funeral staff, and every PGR member for thier hard work. Mission was a success! Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot you will not be forgotten. Thank you for your sacrifice. |
