Ok Tony, just got back. I couldn't find a "Holly Avenue Park" at all. I cruised through the surrounding neighborhood for a little while looking.

But, as jerwendt mentioned, there is "Holly Avenue School" on the South-East corner of Holly Ave. and Duarte Rd. It has parking lots on both streets.

Knowing the traffic in that area isn't the friendliest to motorcycles. I'd suggest the parking lot on Holly Ave. Right out of the drive-way, there is a side street (W. Leroy Ave.) that goes behind the church, make a right just on Lowell Ave. and then another right on Duarte Rd. and then a right into the parking lot.

The church is pretty much centered between Santa Anita Ave. (On the West-side) and Baldwin Ave (on the East-side) It sits on the South-side of Duarte Rd.

Dave,

Thanks for the recon. I think the park I saw on the map must be adjacent to the school. I'm still waiting to hear back from the family. Since the cemetary is in Covina I want to find out if they want us to provide an escort for the hearse from the mortuary to the Church or just from the Church to the cemetary.

Tony

Is it just me?  Or, are the links for the maps not working?

All I get is a blank screen with the letters "OK" ???

Thanks!

NiteRider,

I guess the Google map links got broken. I've replaced them with Mapquest. It should work OK now.

I can participate in either service....wish I could be at both. Is anyone going to try to coordinate these two services to see that each soldier is honored by sufficient numbers of us?

In todays Pasadena Star News, Sgt. Colnot's mother states........

"Even though I have lost my son I will continue to support the
Army's efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. We must never forget that
we only have there freedoms because of patriotic brave young men
like my son Kyle."

The family has asked people to wear red, white and blue in Kyle's honor.

Fly the colors my Patriot Riders.............

I pray for peace and comfort for the family of this young hero.

After attending the Biker Blessing in Covina, I will be ready for this mission.  Feel free to contact me if you too would like to be blessed (this is a bikER blessing, not a blessing of the bikes).

I just spoke with the mortuary. His mother would like us to have a really big display of flags and red, white and blue. Please bring flags if you have them. I have some that I will be bringing to loan to you if you don't have a flag.

Here's the final itinerary.  I'd like to get a rough count of how many people we'll have for this mission so please let me know.

Weather forecast for Arcadia and Covina tomorrow is partly cloudy with a high of 72 and a low of 52.

Sgt. Colnot's mother has asked everyone attending the service to display red, white, and blue.  Since most of us are going to be on bikes I think we will best honor her request by bringing and displaying flags.  I have some extra flags to loan out.  Please bring any extras you may have.

Staging Area:
Holly Avenue parking lot at Holly Avenue School.

Holly Avenue School is at 360 W Duarte Road in Arcadia.

&addtohistory=&cat=&address=360+West+Duarte+Rd&city=Arcadia&state=ca&zipcode
=

Meet at the staging area between 1300 and 1415.  We will have a ride briefing at 1420 and will leave for the Church at 1430.

If you are late to the staging area just come directly to the Church.

The service will be at 1500 at Our Savior Lutheran Church located at 512 West Duarte Rd in Arcadia

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=
&addtohistory=&cat=&address=512+West+Duarte+Rd&city=Arcadia&state=ca&zipcode
=

We will have an updated ride briefing during the service.

Following the service we will escort the hearse to the cemetary at Forest Lawn Covina Hills at 21300 E Via Verde St. in Covina

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&addtohistory=&address=21300%20E%20Via%20Verde%20St&city=Covina&state=CA&zipcode=91724%2d3727&country=US&geodiff=1

Count me as ONE.  As far as wearing red, white and blue ---- I don't want to attract attention to myself....this ain't about me; but, I will do my best to honor the request.  Maybe a cap with a flag, t-shirt with an eagle or something along those lines.  Thanks for the update.

I'm going to try to make Arcadia in time, Tony. Right now my plan is to go to Pendleton in the morning, then head up to Arcadia if time & my legs allow it.

Thanks,

The first thing to keep in mind is your own safety so for most of us that's going to mean wearing leather.  I meant to say "display" instead of "wear" so I think that carrying a flag, or wearing a patriotic do-rag or scarf should be enough to fulfill the request.
