Everyone met up at Freedom Cycle just south of South Bend. We had a brief rider’s meeting, and approximately 15 bikes headed for Bethel College where the viewing for Cpl. Scott Severns was being conducted. The parking personnel were notified earlier that we were coming, so they had arranged parking for us. We then met up with other members of Rolling Thunder and Remembrance Riders who were already there. We slowly made our way inside to pay our respects (the line was about 1 ½ hrs. long). We went in as a group, rendered a solemn salute to our Hero then made our way outside. Upon leaving, one of the ladies from the college stopped me with tears in her eyes and thanked us for coming. We looked a little out of place with our biker attire while most everyone else either had on a police uniform or dress clothes. She said she (along with many others) got goosebumps and swelled with pride when we all rode in together. She thanked us for coming to honor this brave man. Several other police officers came up to us while we were in line to thank us as well. We told them we should be thanking them. They put their lives on the line everyday for us and too many take them for granted. May God bless each and every police officer everywhere as well as our military personnel.
Rest in peace, Cpl. Scott Severns. A True American Hero.
