To everyone that stood today in honor of Cpl. Lueken, I am proud to be associated with each and every one of you.
To my fellow Marines and Sailors, you all did an outstanding job on that bridge today, I couldn't have been more proud to stand there with all of you. Chainsaw, great job in calling us all to attention and present arms, if you wasn't a D.I. You should have been.
DesertRose, Joe and Triker, it was great to meet all of you and just wanted to say that you did a great job. Thank you.
To everyone that I finally got to meet face to face today and to everyone that I met today for the very first time, it was an honor.
To the United States Marine Corps, thank you for taking care of our fellow Marine, you guys did a great job and to the citizens of the wonderful communities that we embarked upon today, you all truly honored one of your own. Cpl. Lueken will be missed but not forgotten.
I hope this finds everyone home safely.
Again, thank you to everyone. God bless you all, God Bless Cpl. Lueken, Semper Fidelis my brother.

I want to thank everyone for making my wife and I feel welcome at the Jasper Inn the night before the funeral. We were part of Cpl. Eric Lueken's funeral procession today. The patriotism and support shown by the Dubois County community was awe inspriring. Driving past the PGR honor guard as we made our way to the church was an emotional moment for my wife and I. So many flags held by so many good people....I know the family will find some comfort in that memory. We were humbled that so many people have such big hearts and sense of duty. The selflessness of the riders we talked with was amazing.
1st Sergeant and honorary Hoosier - thanks for taking the time to explain the PGR mission. Madison - thank you for sharing the web pages of the PGR mission rides. They were moving and prepared us for Cpl. Lueken's funeral. Mary and Ed - Thanks for talking with us. It was amazing to us that you came down all the way from Michigan.
As the parent of a Marine in 3rd battalion, 3rd Marines I want to say thank you. Unfortunately our son doesn't have web or email access in his area of operations, but I will be sending him photographs of Cpl. Lueken's funeral and a letter describing our experience.
We stand prepared to participate fully in any future missions.
Sincerely,
Bobbye and Tony Mother and father of Dan - India Company 3/3 Marines New PGR members

This was my first PGR mission. It was a very emotional experiance for me. When I was in the military I knew that "it could happen to me" but it never occured to me how it would affect the people I knew and loved. Now that I have a stepson in the National Guard I have a new respect for why my parents didn't want me to join. I can't even imagine what Eric's parents are going through right now, but I was proud to be there to show them and their brave son the respect they so greatly deserve. I lost count of how many times I had tears in my eyes today. After the funeral a uniformed Marine came up and shook my hand and said "thank you for coming. I saw him tear up when I told him "this was something I felt I had to do" at that point I started to tear up (again) and he gave me a hug. I was very proud of the Patriot Guard and of the community for the respect and support that was shown for this Hero and his family.
Peace, Lefty |

Thank you all for allowing Cheetahgirl and I to stand with you in Spirit today! I'm sorry we couldn't make this Mission as we were at the Whiteland Mission for Sgt. Proctor. Please know you were all with us in Spirit as well! What a day! What a turnout! PGR constantly amazes me....and always makes me proud to be an American!
I hope this sees everyone home safely!
With much love, Wildflower

Hope everyone else made it home safe, too. The good people of Dubois County and all of the many communities we rode through Thursday evening and today have left quite an impression on me. You people truly know how to honor your fallen heroes.
To all my brothers and sisters in the PGR who made the mission in person or in spirit, I believe we performed our part well. Good job Desertrose, Freeatlast, Triker1 and the charitable members who helped them. |

Several Things: 1. Kyra, Joe, Triker1, and all the others who helped, you all continue to build upon the fine reputation and dedication that has become our trademark.
2. Brothers/Sisters who were in Dubois today, I am overwhelmed by your attendance in Dubois today and America has made note of your unselfish sacrifice to do what is right.
3. I am extremely Proud of those that attended Whiteland today - the weather was cold and wet and in some spots dangerous. However, even though we had two Missions going on the same day and at the same time and 100s of miles apart you still managed to show up in force. 4. Chief, Cowgirl, Bob,and VARider you guys never cease to impress me with your organizational skills and attention to detail - My hat is off to you again.
5. Please forward all photos taken today to jgriener or Rob Smith or to me for our project we are working on.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
We still have unfinished Missions - one in Madison and one coming up in Fort Wayne. Please give those Ride Captains the same loyalty and dedication as you have given today.Today's Mission in Whiteland resulted in a personal invitation from the Governor through Chief and in time he will let you know what that was, when and if it comes to fruition - You will definitely like the generosity of Governor Daniels' invitation.
Reminder I will be out out of state from May 15 thru May 24. |

My first mission for escort duty was incredable. Such a fine group to ride with and such an honor for me. Small town USA was out to honor our fallen hero and it was truly a sight to behold. Won't try to explain as words can't come as I was overwelmed. Learned several things, Americans will support and honor our service people and first time in many years I have rode at night any distance and now know these 55 year old eyes won't allow that, but you can bet I'll be at as many as I can in the daylight. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the PGR.

My father would like me to relay a message to everyone:
“Thank you for making us feel so
welcome on today’s mission for Cpl. Lueken and his family. You are truly a
special group of people standing for a special cause. The compassion you’ve
shown to our friend and neighbor Eric, and his family was extraordinary.
This was my
family’s first mission and certainly will not be the last. I would like to convey
a special thanks to DesertRose, Moth, Onion, and Jester. Your support and
experience was very much appreciated. May God take the lead wherever you ride.”
From myself, Crunch:
Since joining
the Naval Reserve, I have never felt the pride I did today. You’ve deepened my
respect for what we as a country are fighting to protect and renewed my faith
of the patriotism of my fellow countrymen and women. Thank you from the whole
of my heart.

Today was our second mission....I can't even put into words the range of emotions we felt today. We felt so much sorrow for the family of Cpl. Lueken....and we are very proud to be members of this organization.
We were running late this morning, so we stopped at the funeral home rather than miss the group at the Jasper Inn. As we were standing by our car waiting, a couple walked by us and the lady turned and came back. She asked us if we were members of the Patriot Guard. When we told her we were, her eyes filled with tears as she shook our hands and thanked us for doing what we do. She told us that her son was also a Marine. She asked that we relay to the rest of the group her appreciation for our being there today to honor this soldier and she wanted you all to know how much it meant to the family for us to be there. My husband and I were both so choked up we could hardly speak, but I promised her I would relay her message.
I would like to say a big thank you to "Nurse" for leading us to Dubois. First time we'd been in that area, don't know if we would have found it without you.
To the people of Dubois.....the hospitality shown to us and the honor and respect you showed for your fallen Hero is something I will never forget. Cpl. Lueken will never be forgotten.

| I try to always welcome and say hello to every new face I see at a Mission but I have not acknowleged those new faces here in the forums as much as I should. Our wonderful brothers/sisters from our neighboring states and in many cases states that are many hundreds of miles away that attend with us are just not your regular brother/sister type they are our best friend type brothers/sisters. Your coming from those states redfines the word 'unselfish' and we in Indiana are forever grateful and appreciative of your support of one of our Hoosier son's/daughter's passing. Each and everyone of you will be looked upon by us as a fellow Hoosier that just happens to live outside of Indiana. Rest assured that you are dear and close to our hearts as if you lived next door. |

| Well made it back ok around 9:30 last night, was getting tired but thought about pupplegirl making that long trip from SC and knew I sure could make my 6 1/2 hour return. DANSDAD: It was my please to talk with you and your wife about the PGR and welcome aboard. What a outstanding job from Desertrose, Joe and Triker1 !! Hugo, don't know what to say about you but it is all good. When I saw you go and get your gloves and give them out to the People holding the flags on the flag detail, made me proud. To all of the folks in Dubois, what a show of honor and respect you showed, got right to my heart. To the people at Jasper, wow, thanks for the coffee, gloves, chicken, and the HOT chocolate and so many other things to our Flag detail. Thank you for thanking me but it was not me, I am thanking you for your support and love you showed to this fallen soldier. We do the things we do "because it is just the right thing to do". Chief, no room to hang 50 plus flags in my garage. If the sun would come out, would put them in my front yard, people here wouldn't know what to do. Thanks again, to all of the community of Dubois and Jasper. It was my honor to show my respect for CPL Lueken. |

Posted By ddaddyo on 05/12/2006 12:48 PM Desertrose, please forgive me for not being able to stand with all of you at Dubois on Saturday. Due to a prior commitment to 2 boys and a grandson I can't be there. All of you are in my prayers, espically the Lueken family & friends. Give my best to PurpleGirl & Howerter, and everyone that makes the PGR such an awsome orgnization. Please explain to PurpleGirl she needs to consult the America's Most Wanted web site before she climbs on the back of any motorcycles! (I tried to get thru to her @ Crown Hill, but she just wouldn't listen.) Tell Howerter that besides being an "Honary Hoosier", I feel he should be the PGR's National Sgt. At Arms! Blessings to All, ride / drive safe, Pat Thanks for the kind words, but you know we do this "bacause it is just the right thing to do". Take care and if we ever have another one look forward to seeing you again.

Hmmmm....worked that time...ok...I'll try again...
This was my first mission as it was some of the other Folks too. I didn't get to ride this time due to health and weather condidions. (I simply do not do well on 2 wheels in the rain.) Maybe I'll get to ride the next time. I was truly humbled by the Folks who came so many miles to stand and honor our fallen Brother USMC CPL Eric Lueken and his Family. Thank you so much for being there and for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it all. I was especially honored to be able to stand with the USMC Colors. It meant a lot to an old Grunt.
Onion....Hey...it was great to meet you man!! Wish you could have stayed a bit longer, but that's ok...I did my best to take up the slack. Oh....was that a Trumpet I saw you on??
Jab....Thanks for the rain parka Judy!! And for driving all the way down here from Park Hope, Michigan. It was a pleasure to stand with you.
Purple Girl....All the way from Charleston, SC., huh?!? How did you get such a big heart into such a small frame? Thank you for standing with us all.
Tony T.....Thanks for standing with us Brother, and for the great time at El Rio Grande!
Thanks to all the great Folks who supported us with food and coffee and hot chocolate. Thank you Daniel and Patsy of El Rio Grande restaurant for all the gloves. They were really appreciated by those of us who didn't think to bring our own!
Thanks to all the motorists who supported us with all the honks, salutes, waves and smiles! It is good to see that our Country supports and honors its military Heros. (It wasn't always that way.)
Steve Hemmer...Thanks for the jump!! Maybe I'll remember to shut of the ignition switch next time I lower the rear electric window, eh??......Duh!
Kyra.....Good job! Ya kept em all together!

| Special thanks to the three PGR members who held the Big Flag I had brought with me from the family of CPL Johnson from his casket. WW2 and Korean war, 1921-1999. They had said he would have wanted to be part of this and this was their way to insure he is with us in our missions. You made me proud, thanks again. |

From Cpl. Eric Lueken's close friends we would like to thank you so much for everything you all did for us and will continue to do for others. The ride from the funeral home to church so emotional, but it trully meant so much to all of us to see how others really do care and support our Fallen Hero's. I know looking down that Eric loved what he saw that day too. Eric's mission has ended, he is finally home. Thank all of you and what you do. You will always be in my Thoughts and Prayers. A.Massey - It truly was our privelge to be allowed to come and honor our Brother. Every one of our members are aware of the totally unselfish sacrifice that Eric, and others like him voluntarily make every day so that we may all enjoy the freedoms that we share. I can promise you that these Heroes will definitely NOT be forgotten! Believe me, we were crying right along with you on the ride to the Church and other times - and it's not easy riding a bike when you can't see. Your community is, and rightly should be very proud of Eric! The Patriot Guard is equally proud of him!
Thank you all, and may God continue to Bless our Country!

In bad need of a funeral program from this mission. "Nurse" tried to e mail but was at 40kb (way too low of resolution). Snail mail, e-mail or pony express try to get it to Richard, Jeff or myself for the video tribute we send to Cpl. Leuken's family. imginv@indy.rr.com

| Thanks to all who labored, especially Kyra. It was an honor to stand with you folks once again. I left Nashville at 0400 that morning and just about froze to death before the sun came up, much thanks to the toll booth operator that waved me through. In Owensboro I gassed up and ate, just as I started out on 231 I looked right and saw Heavy and Greg and three others so I just pulled over and fell in line behind. Riding up and meeting with others from the group I noticed a couple pull in line behind me on the Indiana side of the river, it gave me the feeling of a tide rising to honor Cpl Lueken. What a beautiful sight all of the people that care and put the effort into comforting and sharing a families time of grief. I feel a special bond with Cpl Lueken and his family that changes our lives for the better. That is the only good that comes from this tragedy, perhaps one day the sacrifices that these brave souls make will not need to made again. Hopefullly people who take for granted the blessings of liberty will pay attention and undrestand that Cpl Lueken and soldiers like him have given so much for us that we can never repay them justly. All that I can do to say thank you I will. |

| I'VE WAITED A COUPLE OF DAYS TO POST, JUST BECAUSE OF ALL THE THOUGHTS I'VE TRIED TO COMPREHEND.AS I SAID EARLIER, WE STARTED WITH THE PROCESSION AT BIRDSEYE ON THUS. EVE. IT FELT SO GOOD TO SEE ALL THE DUBOIS CO. OUT TO GIVE ERIC HIS DESERVED HOMECOMING. THE RADIO STATION WAS AWESOME, ALSO. IF YOU WEREN'T ABLE TO SEE IT IN PERSON,YOU FELT A PART, SINCE HE KEPT US UP-TO-DATE ALL ALONG THE ROUTE.I COULD HEAR HIS VOICE CRACKING A FEW TIMES, SO THANKS, SIR, AS I DIDN'T CATCH YOUR NAME. WE STOOD AS PART OF THE FLAG DETAIL ON FRI...HUSBAND,MYSELF,DAUGHTER,NIECE, AND FRIEND.HUGO, THANKS FOR KEEPING THEM WARM WITH THE USE OF YOUR COAT AND GLOVES. MY DAUGHTER TOOK A CORSAGE INTO MRS. LUEKEN FOR THE MOTHER'S/SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY...ALSO FOR MOTHER'S DAY, SUCH AN ACT OF LOVE. HER SPOUSE IS CURRENTLY IN IRAQ, SO I KNOW THAT'S WHAT'S ON HER MIND AS WE ATTEND THESE FUNERALS, SO I AM SO PROUD OF HER FOR DOING THIS. OUR 12-YR OLD GRANDSON ATTENDED ON SAT....THE FIRST THING HE ASKED ME WHEN WE GOT TO DUBOIS WAS "GRANDMA, HOW DO I SIGN UP, AM I TOO YOUNG"? HE HELD THE FLAG, AND DID IT WITH SUCH PRIDE. SO HE'S AN OFFICIAL MEMBER NOW, JUST NEED TO GET HIM ON THE SITE.I WANTED TO SAY THANKS TO THE LADIES WHO SPENT SO MUCH TIME GETTING ALL THE FOOD/GOODIES OUT AND OFFERING US DRINKS/SNACKS ALL THROUGHOUT THE FUNERAL.WE WERE ASKED TO STAY FOR FOOD AFTERWARD, AND WE JOINED A FEW WHO STAYED.EXCELLENT AND GOOD COMPANY. WE SAT AT THE TABLE OF A COUSIN, MRS. WININGER, AND SHE SAID BE SURE TO PASS ON THAT THE FAMILY WAS SO THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING.SHE HAD BEEN ON THE SITE, AS OTHER FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS HAD.THE BAGPIPES AND TAPS WERE SO BEAUTIFUL, THE FINE RAIN, AND THE RELEASE OF THE DOVES.I WANT TO THANK THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY FOR MAKING ERIC'S FINAL JOURNEY SO BEAUTIFUL AND SHARING WITH THE PGR. WE WERE SO PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS FINE COMMUNITY FOR SUCH A FINE MARINE. SORRY TO HAVE MISSED THE GOOD FOOD AND COMPANY AT THE VFW.. |

Made me so proud to be a part of this that I will remember it for a long time. For those of you who do not know, purplegirl just joined the PGR not long ago from South Carolina. In one month this lady has been to 7 states and 10 missions. She and others like her in our PGR make me proud to be an American. |

My thoughts on this ride..
Ever since this ride ended, I have been pondering of what I could write about this mission.. and the only word that clearly comes to my mind is "AWESOME".. From the escort to the final ride for Eric to his home town of Dubois, was awesome. I didn't make the escort but as I was standing with the flag detail at the funeral home, Dave Englert-Commandant of the Marine Corp league, came up to me and told me how moving it was, he was in the vehicle with Eric and as he looked up the road, all he seen was lights and patriotism, and he said" what a awesome sight to see."
My thanks go to so many people that made this mission what it was. Desertrose for her coordination and detail work, Joe for his leadership at the staging area briefing, Pesky Jester for stepping up to take the mission at the Memorial Bridge, purplegirl and howerter1 for distribution of the flags. Thanks purplegirl for keeping that ole 1Sgt in line.
Thanks to all the wonderful people of Jasper for showing that you care for this Marine Hero, with your drive bys, thumbs up, waves, honking of horns to show your appreciatioins, thanks to the wonderful people that showered us with coffee, food and money donations. Even though we all stood in the rain, it didn't seem to matter if we got wet or not, the hands shakes from the father of Eric and the wonderful warm hug from the mother made all the wet and cold go away. The tears from the other family members, the other hand shakes and words of thank you from Erics commander, and his Marine Corp friends as each one came to us and thanked us for what we were doing.
As we sat around the pool Friday night eating pizza and talking about the days events, we presented a patriotic shadow box to the Jasper Inn for their support and hospitality and our appreciation of letting us use their fine facility. This presentation produced more tears from Jessica of the Jasper Inn, but these were tears of joy, tears of thank you and not tears of sadness. So as we one by one said our good nights and slowly made our way back to our rooms, tired, wet, but with a feeling of pride, but knowing that the mission wasn't complete yet, we still had one more day to go..
Saturday morning came early for alot of us, but all the tiredness of the last two days were gone, as we prepared for the final day of this important mission. Coordination at the staging area went smoothly, Joe, purplegirl, howerter1 getting all signed in, desertrose getting every one lined up. Then kick stands up..each one of us holding our own thoughts in our minds and hearts as we slowly edged our way to Dubois with Indiana State Police escort. The men, woman and children lining the route of this ride, touched our hearts, our thoughts, our minds with their flags, signs and more thumbs up... As we made our way to Dubois, a since of pride dwelled inside each of us, proud of being a Patriot Guard Rider, proud to be apart of this young HERO that gave all, proud to show others patriotism is still alive in this country.... The town of Jasper and Dubois, made us the PGR proud... but most of all... they showed their pride for Cpl. Lueken, they showed their appreciation for the sacrafice that this young HERO gave and all that pride showed as Cpl Lueken made his final ride through the country side that he knew so well.. Thank you Cpl Lueken for your sacrafice, you will be missed but you wll NOT be forgotten. Thanks to the Lueken family for letting the Patriot Guard Riders be apart of your family. God Bless Cpl. Lueken and all the loved ones he left behind, like his dad told me...Eric is in a better place.. and how true that is.... Eric is now riding on the wings of an Angel.. Ride on Eric your in the best of hands....
Thanks to every one for coming out to show your respect and honor to this young HERO and his family..

| I will add more thoughts to this thread later, (I went from the mission to work last night for a 7 hour shift, and then went back in and worked a 10-hour shift today, and am dog tired), but I wanted to say that I was proud to stand with you all yesterday. This was my 5th mission, my first on 2 wheels. I just wanted to say that I love you guys, and it was great to see everyone again, and meet new faces, but I wish it had been under different circumstances. Job well done, EVERYONE. |

I don't know what else to say, or how else to express my feeling about this mission as everything has been said already.
I wanted to say thank you to DesertRose, Triker and Joe for an outstanding job and to everyone else for coming out and honoring this young Marine, I'm proud of each and every one of you.
I feel like I should post my thoughts as to how the bridge detail went. I was honored and proud to head up the bridge detail per DesertRose's request and I would like to say thank you to my fellow Marines and Sailors who stood with me on that bridge and thank you to DesertRose for allowing me When we took that right turn and headed for that bridge I don't believe I was prepared for the sight that I was about to see. First, the bridge itself screams patriotism and is a fitting memorial to the Veterans of Jasper and this fine country. The bridge was lined with citizens already holding flags and the fire dept was set up on the South side with two ladder truck extending over the bridge with one of the most magnificent flags that I have ever seen. When we 14 rolled onto that bridge, firefighters and citizens stepped off to the side so that we could set up and the looks on there faces gave me goosebumps. They welcomed us with smiles and the most gracious attitude, it was as if the calvary had arrived and I felt extremely proud to be there standing among them to honor Cpl. Lueken and his family as the processions rolled by us. When the procession arrived, Chainsaw called the detail to attention and called present arms. Let me tell you, if that Marine wasn't a drill instructor during his time in the Corps, he should have been. He was heard throughout the entire length of the bridge and it was amazing. Thank you Chainsaw. As the end of the procession passed by, the fourteen of us fired up our bikes and the roar of thunder could be heard throughout the entire area as we fell in behind the procession for the ride to Dubois. The ride to Dubois was much the same that DesertRose had posted regarding the escort. People and flags the whole stretch of the way. There were many times that I thought I might have to pull over because of the tears that welled up in my eyes. The people of these fine communities payed there respects for this fine American Hero. Again. thank you to everyone that stood there with me, it was an honor and a privelage.

It was an honor to stand with such a fine group of patriots as the Patriot Guard Riders! A special THANK YOU to the Lueken family for allowing us to be there --- we truly do mourn your loss, more than words can say. To the residents of Dubois County, you people did it right! I'm sure the Lueken family noticed the love and respect that was shown them all thru the county.
The escort from Georgetown to Jasper Thursday night was very emotional. It was a lousy night to be out considering the time and weather but most every house along the route had something to honor Cpl Eric Lueken. People were standing in yards, flags flew, signs were up, folks went all out to show respect to Eric Lueken. It was a crowd like you'd expect to see on a bright sunny afternoon. A true Hero's welcome home!
The flag detail Friday was excellent. We lined the street in front of the funeral home with hand held flags and the day went pretty fast. People driving by were very encouraging to us, many of them came back with umbrellas, coffee, chicken, gloves, anything they thought we might need. We had many visitors from the showing that stopped by to let us know how much the Lueken family means to them and that's all the motivation we needed to continue! Even the lady that gave us the bird was kind of encouraging -- believe she meant well, just couldn't identify the teams
Saturday morning PGR gathered at the Jasper Inn and we were escorted to Dubois ahead of the funeral procession so that we could have the street lined with flags as the | | | | | | |
