 I've got to agree w/Frank on the flag issue.  While many, myself included, have poles that will withstand those speeds, I've yet to find a flag that would not tatter on the ends when riding any distances at highway speed.  I would think flags should be left off your rides until/unless the procession stops outside of Charles Town, if you plan to ride all the way in.

   Once we exit I-81 and get on Route 9, speeds should diminish enough to allow you to mount them there.
Respects,
Joe

*******************1530 EDT UPDATE*****************

   Spoke with David Hall around 1500.  They were just preparing to depart from the Natural Bridge, approximately exit 180 on I-81N, continuing on their journey to Gettysburg, PA.  They are currently traveling WITHOUT ESCORT, although a Virginia member, Mike Hahn, will attempt to meet up with them along their route.

A contingent of riders will be meeting them at the West Virginia Welcome Center on I-81N around 1730 and take them at least as far as Pennsylvania.  If anyone wishes to participate in the escort from this point, please arrive at the Welcome Center NLT 1715 to ensure you're there in time.  Our two WV Ride Captains, Gary Gaskins and Mark McCarter, should both be there close to 1730.

   As was stated earlier, they will be staying overnight in the Gettysburg area, then taking a short tour of the Battlefield and Memorial tomorrow morning, leaving for Philadelphia somewhere around "noonish" (1200).  I will attempt to ascertain their overnight location and post here.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I will be unable to post updates or be in contact via phone as I'm leaving at 0530 for wrist/elbow surgery.  If you need information or updates, please contact the Pennsylvania Ride Captain, Frank Tacey, at (215) 760-4142.

   Thank you for your participation and support.
Respects,
Joe

*****URGENT UPDATE!!*******1300 EDT UPDATE*******URGENT UPDATE!!*****

CHANGE IN MONDAY'S ITINERARY!!!!

   Just spoke with Phyllis Hall a few minutes ago.  The Liberty Bell is still South of Roanoke, VA on I-81N.  Due to numerous stops today and lengthy periods at those stops, they have decided to CANCEL THEIR PLANNED TRIP TO WASHINGTON, DC.  They do not feel they would have an adequate amount of time to spend in Washington, now, so they will be continuing their journey on I-81N.

   They will be stopping at a Cracker Barrell Restaurant off I-81 just North of Roanoke, although she does not recall the precise location.

   When they leave there, they will continue up I-81N, through Martinsburg, WV to Chambersburg, PA where they will pick up Route 30E and proceed into Gettysburg.  Their present plans are to spend the night there and use tomorrow (Tuesday) as a day of rest to tour the Gettysburg area.  It is my understanding, although I will confirm with her the next time I speak with them, to travel from Gettysburg into Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday.

   The remainder of the itinerary remains unchanged at this time.  I apologize for the changes that have been made and appreciate all who have expressed interest in meeting them along their journey.  According to Phyllis, time permitting they MAY proceed to Washington, DC at the conclusion of the mission for Mr. Buckles on Saturday.

   I will attempt to keep all informed of their location as they journey to Gettysburg, in the event some members care to meet them along the way.

   Thank you, again, for all that you have done and continue to do.
Respects,
Joe

Updated 16 Sept 07 0927 edt S Sturgis

   Received call from Phyllis Hall advising the procession had departed at 0700 CDT.  Although these times are somewhat fluid due to the unknown number of stops that will be required, here is their planned itinerary for the day:

   Arriving Memphis, TN - 0900-0930.
   Arriving Jackson, TN - 1100
   Arriving Nashville, TN - 1300
   Arriving Knoxville, TN - 1830
   Arriving Bristol, VA - 2100

   Upon arriving in Bristol, they will make a determination as to whether to continue up I-81 or stop for the evening.  This will be dependant on the number of bikes that are in the escort and how everyone feels at that time.

    I believe she stated they currently have 10 bikes escorting them and generally have 3-4 in front with the remainder in the rear.  Again, as we've said many times before, if you have plans to join the procession somewhere along the route, please exercise extreme caution as you fall into line, ensuring those there know of your intentions.

   Phyllis will call with another update somewhere around the Nashville area.  If times/information change from what is listed here, I will post the updates.
Respects,
Joe

**********************2130 CDT UPDATE**********************

   They are spending th night at the Holiday Inn Express at the Airport, planning on breakfast at 0600 and departure by 0700.  Their hopes are to be in Memphis around 0930.

   Anyone desiring to meet them to participate in the escort is encouraged to do so.

   Thank you for following these updates.  Will post more as information is received.

********************1345 CDT UPDATE*******************

   Traveling Liberty Bell has stopped for lunch, approximately 95 miles from the Texas/Arkansas border.  There are currently 12 bikes participating in the escort with 2 more just joining along the route.

   Due to the speed of their travel, they do not anticipate arriving in Arkansas until approximately 1600 CDT.  They will be stopping, briefly, at the Welcome Center as they either are departing Texas or entering Arkansas, wherever it is located.

   Once they depart the Welcome Center, they will be stopping at Ryan's Cafeteria, at the Baseline Road Exit (#130) of I-40E.  They will NOT be proceeding into Memphis tonight but rather staying either in Little Rock or a small town around 30 minutes further East.

   They will be departing tomorrow morning between 0700-0730 CDT.  If I am notified of their overnight location, I will post here for those who care to meet them in the morning.

   Please, anyone wishing or attempting to join the procession along the route, exercise EXTREME caution and ensure the riders know of your intentions to participate.  We all understand the difficulty with trying to meet them at one of their stops as we don't have advance knowledge of where that might be.  Thus, your safety and the safety of those already in the procession must be kept first and foremost in everyone's mind as you join the escort.  Thank you very much.
Respects,
Joe

*********UPDATE***********UPDATE************UPDATE************

   1215 CDT....Just spoke with Phyllis.  The Traveling Liberty Bell departed Celina, TX approximiately one hour ago and is enroute.  She anticipates a stop, shortly, for everyone to get a bite to eat, which should take about an hour.  She will give Gerald Gaines, AR SC, a call when they stop to eat to give him a heads up and will get back in touch with me when they are somewhere around an hour from the Arkansas border.

   Continue monitoring for updates.
Respects,
Joe

********************CHANGE IN ITINERARY********************

   There has been a slight change in the FINAL portion of the itinerary involving the trip from Philadelphia, PA to Charles Town, WV.

   The Traveling Liberty Bell will now be departing Philadelphia on the morning of the 21st via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76W) to Carlisle, PA where they will pick up I-81S toward Maryland.  They will take Exit 12 (Route 9) and proceed in to Charles Town via this route.

   Phyllis will call me on Wednesday evening, Sep 20, to give me their time of departure from Philly.  They do NOT anticipate an extremely early departure but it will be in the morning, allowing enough time to arrive in Charles Town prior to their meeting at 1600.

   Please continue monitoring this thread for any further updates/information.
Respects,
Joe

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please forgive the delay in posting as it's been a very busy day here.  Just spoke with Phyllis and here is what we KNOW with some certainty:
   The Traveling Liberty Bell WILL be departing Celina, TX by 1130 tomorrow (Saturday) morning.  They know it will be between 1700-1800 before they arrive in Little Rock, AR.
   At that time, they will make a decision as to whether or not to continue their trip, possibly attempting to make it to Memphis, TN tomorrow evening.  This will all depend on the number of bikes that are traveling in the escort and how far they wish to travel.  First and foremost, the safety of our members will be stressed.
   As they do not know, at this time, exactly how far they will travel tomorrow, it is very difficult to give a time that they will arrive in the Bristol area, HOWEVER, they will be keeping in touch during their trip and provide updates as to their location(s) and their intended stop.
   As soon as I receive ANY information from them, I will post in this thread, along with the time I received it, so all who wish to participate in the escort can make their plans.  According to Phyllis, after tomorrow, they hope to be able to provide 48 hour lead time for their future stops.
   Thank you to all who have expressed a desire to participate in this escort.  I cannot emphasize enough how important YOUR safety is as you are traveling.  Please, if they decide to continue driving well after dark, if you are tired or don't feel comfortable accompanying them, PULL OUT.
Respects,
Joe
All,
   I will be trying to get in touch with Mr. Hall today (Friday) in an effort to get more definitive information on his travel plans/times.  As soon as I find out anything, I will post on here.
   As Annette has said, having folks meet the procession at varying locations along the route would be the "best case scenario", however, our member safety must be first and foremost in an endeavor such as this.  Efforts to make a trip from Little Rock, AR to the Harrisonburg/Front Royal, VA area during daylight hours will be impossible to accomplish and anyone attempting such a venture, even only across TN, will be extremely tired before that portion was done.
   Please be ever mindful of the wildlife that will be running, especially this time of the year, as you participate in this escort.  Know your own limitations and keep your safety and that of others that may be riding with you paramount on your mind.  While this is a very honorable thing to do and would definitely qualify as a "feel good Mission",  having anything happen to someone along the way would ruin this for everyone, Mr. Hall included.
   I will post more as soon as I get it from Mr. Hall, hopefully with planned departure times included.
   Thank you for your interest in participating.
Respects,
Joe
***SHORT NOTICE TRAVELING LIBERTY BELL ESCORT; TX TO WV***
   Mr. David Hall, PGR member from Texas, will be bringing the last remaining traveling replica of the original Liberty Bell to Martinsburg, WV to participate in the HOTH mission honoring Mr. Frank W. Buckles, one of the last 3 surviving Veterans of World War I.  He will be traveling with an ABC News crew who will be filming his journey as well as the mission for Mr. Buckles for an upcoming segment of Good Morning America.  Mr. Hall has requested PGR escort for as much of his journey as possible.
   He will be departing Celina, TX the morning of Saturday, September 15, around 1130 and proceeding East on U.S. Route 30 to Little Rock, AR where he will spend the night.  He will then depart on Interstate 40E to Knoxville, TN, picking up Interstate 81N and proceeding to  Strasburg, VA where he will turn onto Interstate 66E toward Washington, DC.  He will overnighting somewhere in the Harrisonburg/Front Royal, VA area the night of the 16th.  He has an event scheduled for Washington on Monday, September 17 and will be departing via Interstate 95N on Tuesday, September 18, for Philadelphia, PA.  He will spend Wednesday and Thursday, September 19/20, in Philadelphia before departing via Interstate 95S to Baltimore, MD, picking up Interstate 70W for the last leg of his trip to West Virginia, spending the night of September 21 in or near Charles Town, WV.
   I have spoken with Gary Gaines, Arkansas SC; Annette Robeck, TN SC; Rich Linden, MD SC and Bud Roberts, PA SC who have all agreed to do what they can to accommodate Mr. Hall in his travels.  I am still awaiting a return call from Tony Turner, VA SC, for the Virginia portion of the trip.
   If anyone is willing and able to assist with the escort of this very historical replica of American History, please post your intentions here and get in touch with the appropriate SC for the area you will be able to participate.
   Updates will be posted to this thread as they become available.  Thank you for your interest.
Respects,
Would the Va I-81 part of this mission be on the 16th?? I could possibly meet the "bell" in Bristol at the rest stop on I-81 on the N side of 81 and travel possibily to Roanoke, Va with it if I knew the time frame and could arrange it.
Keep us posted on the times coming through Nashville and I'll pick it up and run tailgate for a while.
Don't have a bike but have my cage set up for escort with flags and flashing lights.
Are any restcoffee stops established yet? That way can join without jumping in on the run.
I had the priviledge to see and hear this Liberty Bell while on a mission in Texas. I can not describe to you how moving the ringing of the bell is, when you know what the rings stand for. It would be my honor to escort Mr. Hall and the bell (which also has 2 tablets with the 10 Commandments on either side of the bell) as far as I can across TN. As a side note, Mr. Hall has purchased the bell and the Commandments with his own funds. He is truly a patriot and it was an honor to meet him in Nacogdoches, Texas.
For TN:
Any ASC's or RC's along the route or that want to participate in the escort, contact me. We will work out a plan to hook up with the escort at certain exits/reststops.
We hope to escort from the AR/TN stateline all the way to the TN/VA stateline, so we will need folks all along the route in various areas that want to assist in this escort to send me an e-mail so we can get teams set up.
BlueBoy here (No.Little Rock) -
-- planning on doing the Malvern PGR Mission Saturday Sept 15th...
-- then well see what we can do about escorting the Liberty Bell to Little Rock - and maybe to Memphis on Sunday.
....if you wish to draw attention to the Bell in Little Rock, then I would suggest the River Market on the Little Rock side of the Ark. River.
But YEAH -- without a definite SCHEDULE it's awful hard to sent a notice to others as well...
BTW -- I do receive the PGR Mission mails (and forward them to club members) -- and the one about the Liberty Bell has the LINK to the PGR Forum stating that more information is in the SPECIAL MISSIONS FOLDER ...but one has to LOGIN to the Forum to even FIND THE FOLDER.
Is the Forum Wizard aware of this... it would seem PGR would want folks to be able to READ-ONLY all Forum Post !?@??>!?@>
   Bruce...not sure what's going on with these forums myself.  For some reason, when looking in the Special Missions forum, this particular one can't be found...ANYWHERE!  When I put in the request for posting, it was put in the forum for Honor Mission - Liberty Bell to Honor Frank Buckles (http://www.patriotguard.org/ALLForums/tabid/61/forumid/21/postid/637602/view/topic/Default.aspx) instead of in its own thread.
   IF, and that's a HUGE word here, I can access this particular forum, I'll post any additional information I'm able to get in BOTH places.
   Like you, I wish National would find some way to make access to these much easier for all who are interested.  Thought this had already been accomplished but, as evidenced here, something is still amiss.
((Joe,  I sent this as an email to our PGR State Capt))
Gerald - Arkie State Capt,
   Got this message/posting from JOE in response to me Posting about the Liberty Bell...
    Problem are (several) ---
(1) timing of the Bell coming up from Texas and finding out in time to do something.
---- I am afraid I get frustrated (and pissed off) every time I try to Read/Find/Post to the PGR Forums ----
(2) I can neither find MY OWN POST ON THE PGR FORUM -- NOR THAT OF JOE's
(3) NO ONE can even FIND THE Special Missions folder unless and until they login to the PGR site/forum... so LINKs to Post on the PGR Forums always FAIL.
(4) the 'ancient' BULLETIN-BOARD format is EXTREAMILY difficult to use...read...follow, or even manage ---
(4a) THIS IS ONE REASON QUITE A FEW OF US NEVER LOGIN OR POST TO IT (see #2 above)... we simply "attempt" to Read it without login.
(4b) If it wasn't for email notices about Missions, I and quite a few in Arkansas would not even know !!!!!!  I forward (as emails) missions to quite a few other people -- as they, like Me, DO NOT VISIT THE PGR FORUMS -- for reasons stated.
(4c) I had suggested back in 2005 that they go to the FULL DELPHI FORUM VERSION --- easy to read, easy to follow, easy to post to, easy to manage...
