I sure hope this doesn't happen but I just got an email from the State Director of the Legion Riders. Below is what it read.

I received a phone call from a close friend of the family of Lance Corp. Darin Settle who was killed in Iraq concerning the Westboro Church protestors. They have contacted the Cole County Sheriff's Department advising them they would be protesting the funeral of Settle. A public visitation will be held Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Spring Valley Baptist Church, at the Route H/BB intersection in Henley, MO. Funeral Service will be at noon Saturday at the Cole County R-5 High School in Eugene. I advised the lady I would contact our Legion Riders. She was grateful and wanted the Legion to be aware of this.

PGR,

If anyone is in Eldon on Friday night please come by our club house. If you are interested send me an email and I will send you directions. IF you need any further information contact me.

Tension is high in Henley in reference to this funeral and the presence of the unmentionables. The family expressed sincere gratitude to all who are supporting this mission.

BTW - Noble Eagles are a Civic Club and not a MC. We ride motorcycles, however, several of our members do not even own a bike......

The unmentionables do in fact intend to come to the funeral but not the visitation.
Protesting at visitations is not their style.
Just recently, I have heard that Missouri passed a law that states these people can only do their thing one hour before and one hour after the funeral. The way I understand it is that they can't even be seen anywhere around the funeral service location for those two hours. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.
If this is the case, make sure that all of the law enforcement officers know of this. They need to verify it first, however.
These unmentionables said they were going to show up at the last funeral I attended, but either that new law or the large presence of the Patriot Guard prevented them from showing up at all. Hopefully that will be the case at this funeral on Saturday.
I will be there as a proud American and as a proud Patriot Guard member as well as all of the rest of the Patriot Guard to honor our fallen hero.
Rest assured, if the unmentionables do show up, we will be ready.

Hello,

I just registered on the site. I want to thank you all for what you are doing. There are people out there that know you and appreciate what you are doing. I wanted to give you a little more insight into the "unmentionables" and what is going on surrounding them at the funeral. Below are 2 articles from the Jefferson City News Tribune:

http://www.newstribune.com/articles/2006/04/20/news_local/256news02.txt

The first is an article about the hundreds who showed up lining Route C in support of our troops and the Lance Corporal Last night as they brought his body home.

The second is the article about the "unmentionables" and their proposed times and places of protest.

http://www.newstribune.com/articles/2006/04/20/news_local/256news03.txt

Of note is the 3rd paragraph down where the Cole County sheriff states that the protesters will be allowed public access on the easement on HWY 17 near the highschool to protest. (from the article they plan to be there from 11:15am - noon) However he also states that if those easements are full, the people there have NO OBLIGATION to move to allow the protesters in to use that area.

Now after the show of support from last night, I think those easements will be full up on Saturday. But I thought it important enough to make sure you guys knew what was going on.

Prosecutor Tackett has also issued a No Tress-passing warning to the protesters that they are not allowed on School property. And he says they are ready to prosecute if the protestors violate the law.

Anyway that is the latest from Jefferson City on whats going on. Keep up the great work. We love you guys for it!

I was honored to be at the Costello funeral this morning. I will be making this one as well. Anyone in the South St. Louis County area that wants to ride together can meet me at the Highway 30 (Gravois Rd.) & I-270 Park and Ride lot, kickstands up at 6:30 AM. That should give us plenty of time to meet up with the group at the Wentzville QT, I-70 Westbound Exit 208. They will be kickstands up at 7:15 AM.

My prayers go out for the Settle family. They have suffered a terrible loss, as have the rest of us.

Joe, I won't be able to make it to ride with you all tomorrow. I know you are doing a great job as lead Ride Captain for this mission. I also wish that I would be there to tell you and Linda good-bye and good luck as you leave us. I know you both want to travel, but I hope to see you all in the fall (not on mission rides!). Take care and ride safe.

Wheel Officer, won't be meeting up with you all in the morning. Respects to all of you that are able to make this mission.

May God bless LCPL Settle's family in this time of sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lest I keep my complacent way, I must remember that somewhere out there a person died for me today. As long as there must be war, I ask and I must answer: Was I worth dying for?
