**************THIS IS NOW A CONFIRMED MISSION*******************

I have received confirmation from Jimmy's son, Jamie, that Patriot Guard Riders participation in his services would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.  Although who we are and what we do was previously unknown to this family, after viewing our web site they feel we do an "awesome thing" and they would be honored with our presence.

Do to the extremely short notice, we will NOT be participating in the visitation services but will stand in Honor and Respect on Monday, 25 June during his final services.

Staging will be in the Riverview Plaza, 1248 N. State Route 2, New Martinsville, WV (http://tinyurl.com/23c6qp) at 0915, ride briefing at 0930 and KSU at 0945 for the short journey to the New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, WV 26155.  For those approaching from the North, the Plaza is located on your right, at the first light, as you enter New Martinsville.  Those approaching from the South, continue all the way through New Martinsville, approximately 2 miles North of the bridge to Ohio Rt 7, continuing past the GoMart on your left to the next light, then turn left into the Plaza lot.  For all, a point of reference is the New Martinsville Church of God, located directly across WV Route 2 from the Plaza and a Burger King Restaurant in the Plaza lot.

We will have our flag line established prior to 1000 to ensure we are in place before the family's anticipated arrival between 1015-1030 and will maintain our line until shortly after commencement of services at 1100.

At the conclusion of services we will, once again, set our flag line until Jimmy has been moved from the church to the hearse and then provide escort to the Northview Cemetery, a distance of less than one mile.

Have already spoke with the New Martinsville City Police who advise they will have an officer present at the staging area to provide escort to the church.

While I realize this is very short notice and will, unfortunately, conflict with other Missions of Honor in surrounding states, I would ask for as many participants as possible to stand to honor the service Mr. Stewart gave to this great country.

Please keep in mind the local weather forecast for Monday is for temperatures approaching 95 degrees during the day.  Please dress accordingly.  There are many restaurant facilities in very close proximity to the church for those needing hydration.
Respects,
Joe

*******************************************************************************

We have a Pending Mission in New Martinsville, WV for a WWII Veteran, James Stewart, 84, who passed away Friday, 22 June 07.

Mr. Stewart was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, member of American Legion Post #28, Masonic Lodge 39, Moose Lodge 931 and a retired supervisor of PPG Industries.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Grissell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, WV 26155 with visitation being Sunday,  24 June, from 1500-1700 and 1900-2100.  Funeral services are Monday, 25 June, at 1100 at New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, WV 26155 with interment to follow in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.

Contact has been made with the funeral director requesting he offer Patriot Guard Riders service and support to "Jimmy" and his family during the services on Monday.  He will make our presentation to the family and get back in touch with me.

As a sidenote, I knew "Jimmy" personally for a number of years during my career at PPG and found him to be one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet, let alone work for.  I also worked with his son, Jamie, my entire 27 years @ PPG.

Should we receive confirmation of this mission, although on very short notice, as much PGR participation as possible would be greatly appreciated.  Please monitor this thread for updates.

Respects,
Joe

Going home, going home,

A warrior came home
From a war far away
In the heat of the battle
He yearned for that day

He served his country
With honor and pride
Never forgetting
The FLAG at his side

He stood the abuse
From the unknowing
His love for his country
Was always showing

Now he has left us
It is our turn to stand
Showing the respect
Owed by this land

Our FLAGS flying proudly
For him we assemble
From the rumble of PGR bikes
The ground will tremble

The Honor and Respect
For this warrior long over due
The PGR will be there
Standing for you

When it is over
And you are laid to rest
We will tell the world
You were one of the best

Thank you brave soldier
For all you have done
The PGR rides for you
An American son.

MAY OUR ALMIGHTY GOD SHED HIS GRACE AND GOODNESS ON ALL OF OUR VALIANT MIGHTY MILITARY. SECOND TO NONE.
