Updated 08 May 07 1948cdt Aranel

***********************UPDATED ITINERARY********************

Just got off the phone with Sfc. Bryan Giesey.  He confirmed that SSgt. Waltz and family will arrive in Mingo Junction Wednesday May 9.  Therefore the following is the updated itinerary:

Viewings are scheduled for Thursday,  May 10, 2-4, 7-9

Service is scheduled for Friday, May 11, at 1:00 p.m.

Staging will be on FRIDAY.  Itinerary remains the same as the previous update.

                                                                                            Ride safe,
                                                                                             Ron J.
.

Updated 7 May 07  2048 edt S Sturgis

The following is all the information we have at present:

Tentatively, viewings are  for Wednesday, May 9.
Services are for Thursday, May 10 at 1:00 p.m.

We will not be standing a vigil for the viewings.  The exact day is not definite but the times are.  Keep alert as the day MAY change.

  Funeral home is:

    Wheeler Funeral Home
     101 Longview Ave.
     Mingo Junction, OH 43938

Directions:  Take Rt. 7 in Ohio to Mingo Junction, Logan Ave. exit.  From the north, turn left off exit, from the south turn right off exit.  Go to the bottom of the hill and bear right. Go to stoplight, make a right onto MCLISTER Ave.  Go approx. 2 mi. up the hill (through a residential area) to a stop sign.  Make a left onto CARLISLE, then a quick right onto LONGVIEW.  Go to the end  of LONGVIEW, and the funeral home is on the left.  Sign out front.

Staging will be at 11:00 at DICARLO's market ( caddy-corner from the funeral home).  Big sign on the side of the building.  Please park away form the store front near the grass as possible.  I should be there around 10:00.

Ride briefing at 11:15 so we can be in position before 12:00.  We will walk over to the funeral home(approx. 80 yds.)

We will escort SSgt. Waltz to his final resting place, approximately 2 miles from the funeral home. The cemetery is very nicely paved but small.  Kickplates might be a good idea.

This is a small residential community so please use caution.

More information will be posted as I receive it.  Again, the day may, change.  The times won't.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

                                                                                      Ride safe,
                                                                                       Ron J.

SSGT. MARK WALTZ , 40, ARMY,  MINGO JUNCTION OHIO  (9-10 MAY 07 ?)

I understand there was a training accident at Ft. Carson Colorado and SSgt. Mark Waltz lost his life.  I will post more information about him when I receive it from the Ft. Carson Colorado CAO.

Being a stateside casualty, there will be no DOD Release on this soldier.

Mark will have visitation and be buried in Mingo Junction Ohio, a small community on the Ohio River, bordering West Virginia.

I am currently trying to contact West Virginia PGR for assistance with this mission.  We have no one in the area, and are particularly thin in membership in this area.  Therefore, if it is at all possible to attend, please do.

Respects,

I'd like to thank the WVA PGR for assistance in Mingo Junction. Many of you have met Joe Cumberledge at Missions in Ohio. He's the big guy with long hair, but has a heart bigger than his bike. Several times in the past, Joe has offered assistance, this time we needed him, and he'll be there for us. As far as membership in this area, it is pretty much "no man's land", very thin on memberships. We don't have borders in our organization and we all work together to get the mission accomplished. Joe has traveled many, many miles supporting missions in Ohio, now, seeing that an Ohio mission is taken care of. Please, all that can support this mission, we could sure use you now. Dates of Wednesday, 9 May for visitation, and Thursday, 10 May for services and interment are TENTATIVE. Please follow the posting and direction of our WVA PGR Ride Captain for information. To the guys in his unit, 329th Field Artilery our of Ft. Carson Colorado, and the family of SSgt Waltz, we will get the Mission done, for you all deserve it, and certainly, SSgt. Waltz deserves a Heroes send off. We thank him, and all of you for your sevice to our country, for protecting us and insuring our freedoms. You are very much appreciated.

Enjoy your life and freedoms, for a most costly price is being paid for them. Support those that pay that price, and sacrifice, FOR US.

Spoke with CAO for SSgt Waltz.  As Tater stated above, these dates are only tentative at this time.  Earliest possible date for Mark's return to the Ohio Valley is Tuesday, May 8, at Pittsburgh Int'l Airport.

Ron Jones, WV ASC/RC will be Ride Captain for this Mission of Honor.

Please continue monitoring this thread for updates as they become available.  It is OUR honor to assist our brothers and sisters in Ohio with this mission.

Respects,
Joe

What Heroes Gave

Each donned their uniform to be
Defenders of our liberty

Their mission sure, their spirits bright
Guard freedom’s home, be brave to fight

One final day each faced their call
Each gave their best enduring all

We’ll never know what they went through
But know they loved this country true

Deep down inside we should all feel
What heroes gave, their cost so real

We must stay thankful, grateful of
The gift of freedom through their love

Their loved ones bore the gravest pain
What we can’t know, some now sustain

To God I pray their pain will cease
And each will find long-lasting peace

Remember this from year to year
What heroes gave – shan’t disappear

We’ll never let their special day
Their time for honor slip away

These brave fought for a nation free
If not for them, where would we be?

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve.
