Richard - It was an honor to have my first mission with your group.  I agree that you, Chief and Cowgirl did an outstanding job and so did Brett (who gave me my first motorcycle ride) and Russ with his "mobile office" and "Honorary Hoosier" Max with all his flags and lots of other caring, committed people.  You all made me feel welcome and even useful.  Sorry about having a pink jacket - I didn't even think about what I was wearing until someone thought it would be fun to tease about it.  It did seem a bit of a coincidence - the color and what you had said about dress.  It is a very serious commitment I made to join the PGR, and even though I'm not on 2 yet with the "proper" stuff, I was proud to be a part of the day showing our respect and appreciation for SPC McKinzie and his family.  Thank you for the opportunity to be there.

Purplegirl, It was a pleasure and an honor to have you stand with us. The comment about the pink bunny suit is obviously is a tongue in cheek comment ( as a no dress code is the standing order within reason I suppose) so your pink coat did not raise any concern for anyone but I might have balked a little if you had had the pink bunny ears you mentioned that you forgot. We'll be honored to have you in IN anytime.

That is fantastic Chief. I will write a letter in the next few days also as I have received a couple emails from students from there and replied to them also. On another note along the same lines - Spc. Joshua Hill's father (Fairmount, IN Mission), Terry Hill, was so taken by our Patriotic spirit that he just informed me he will be joining the PGR and riding with us. This country is great and because of PGR people this country has taken a step forwards in regaining its dignity and moral fiber. God Bless each and every one of you.

Wow! I'd be most honored to ride beside Terry Hill, Joshua Hill's father, ANYDAY! I'm sure everyone else in the PGR feels the very same way! That is great! How awesome. Welcome to the PGR Terry!

On the Government teacher, I know when cowgirl and I noticed those young kids standing outside amongst our PGR members Tuesday morning, we couldn't get over there fast enough to welcome and praise them for being there. We didn't get a chance to talk with them very much because we were on the move quite a bit that morning, but I KNOW I will definitely be sending a letter to Mr. Grismore and his class, that's for sure. For many members that don't know Mr. Lampert's exact position at Pike, let's just say, "The buck stops with him", on all matters realting to any student's, teacher's, or Pike's concerns. I think this teacher felt like he was thanked enough when Mr. Lampert, of all people, came into his classroom that day, but just wait until he hears from the PGR!

Russ - It is so impressive to see how much so many of the PGR are willing to give and to do to honor people like CPL McKinzie and his family who  have given everything.  You certainly impressed me with your "mobile office" and what you go through to help us all showing our respect for our heroes and their families.  I have finally found that this organization is what I have been searching for to show my gratitude for what the military and their families do for us.  You and the IN group certainly set a high standard in organizing and showing respect.

Thank you for guiding me around Indy - the scenic ways!  I was the one they honked at at the light before getting on 465!  They thought I was holding them up.  Watrous did a much more direct route guiding me around Nashville for that mission, but you were very kind to let  me follow and

Chief, I would love to drop the teacher an email.  Could you send me a note at mikebowman@cin.net with his email?  My brothers and I saw the kids but were unsure of their intentions.  Now that I know I feel the need to let this man and his students know what a wonderful thing they did by participating.

Antoine McKinzie's mission was my second.  I was so proud to stand with such a wonderful group, and so sad for the reasons that we needed to be there.  You, Cowgirl, and IndyHarley did a magnificent job of coordination and organization on this mission.

I have my mission pics posted to my yahoo photos site at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sparky_61030/my_photos if anyone wants to view or download.

The PGR is doing such a wonderful thing for all the people that they support.  My heart and my spirit were broken last Thanksgiving.  But you people have given me a reason to have a purpose in life again, and for that I can't possibly thank you all enough.

Sincerely, Mike

Hi Mike. This teacher's email address is on it's way to you. I am positive this Government teacher and his class will learn a great deal more about who we are as PGR members, and why most of us are there on these missions for soldiers we never knew. But I'm sure after reading your letter their hearts will be swollen with more American pride than they could ever realize in their young lives. You will allow them to experience a more personal, more sensitive, and especially more meaningful reason why some stand with the PGR. Thank you again for being there. I just have to say again I am glad to know you and are most honored to have you as a friend.

Chief,

This message touched my heart.  The quiet thank yous I heard from the cars leaving the funeral are etched in me and I am better for it.  Thank you for your work and the work of all the Patriot Guard Riders.

I did write a letter for the students of Mr. Grismore's government class and would appreciate it if you would forward it to them.

Again, thanks for your efforts, I will attend all the missions I can,

Dave (HuzurPapa) Willard

To the Students of Mr. Grismore;

You are blessed to have a teacher that takes the meaning of a government class
to include the hearts and souls of the people, for any government is only a
representation of its people.

My personal opinion of the war in Iraq is that we should not be there.  I am sure
there are some in your class that would agree with that and some that would
disagree for it is just an opinion, nothing more.  What does mean more is the
respect and commitment to a fallen soldier and that is what the Patriot Guard Riders
is about.  I am grateful that you were all able to experience this event and I
would be interested in knowing what it meant to each of you.

Behind opinion lies thought and this mission gave me a thought I would like to
share with you.  In America we have a unique freedom to express our opinions.
A freedom we are continually balancing between our freedoms and the freedoms of
others.  The Westboro Baptist Church began demonstrating at the funerals of fallen
soldiers, preaching that “God hates Fags”, and the response was the formation of
the PGR.  Think about that.  One groups opinions balanced by another’s.  It made me
wonder why there is no balance regarding terrorists proclaiming jihad and the vast
majority of Islam.  Why is it that, in America, hate speech and terror are
immediately met with opposition?  Why don’t the 99% of Islam stop the 1% of
terrorists in their countries?  The only answer I could believe was fear.  Fear of
the retaliation such opposition would bring.  As an American I cannot fathom that
fear.  I am free to say what I think and oppose those I feel are infringing on the
rights of others.  Maybe that is the heart and soul of why we are in Iraq, to
overcome such fear and set a standard for freedom.

We have Cpl Antoine McKinzie to thank for giving all in behalf of the freedoms we all
share.

Regards,
Dave Willard

Wow! Dave, I will definitely forward this letter on to Mr. Grismore. I know for a fact your letter will touch the hearts of everyone who reads it. Talk about cutting to the core of the basic existence of freedom and democracy in America! I believe you could easily substitute for any Government/Social Sciences teacher any day of the week and their kids would not miss a thing, in fact, they would probably sit in awe at your philosphy and beliefs. I might put a feeler out to him that maybe his class would like to hear from some of our PGR members personally. Maybe have like an open forum discussion between students and some of our members sharing personal views, experiences, mission photos, etc. Your letter most certainly brings everything full circle. Great job! I'm very proud to know you as a friend and most honored to serve beside you anytime! Thank you!

HuzurPapa,

Like Cheif said, WOW! While we may differ on Iraq, no big deal, your clarity of thought and purpose come through beautifully! Your ability to ask the question and then bring it all back around to what we were doing that day was masterful. Outstanding job!

Cheif, oddly enough Onion and I were discussing the aspect of a forum for the class just today. We'd both be proud to offer any assistance needed to accomplish that.

Our son is a new Marine, brother is Navy, father is Air Force, and nephew is Army.  We heard about PGR while at a Marine Parent's Pitch-In in Pendleton, IN (we are from Fishers) and were hesitant to get involved thinking these missions were more for those who have had the honor to serve.  While we found out we are part of a "marine family", we also found out that the PGR is a "family".  We have never felt more of a part of something and have never felt so overwhelmed with respect and honor as we did standing at the funeral home Monday evening and again at the school Tuesday morning.  CPL Antoine McKinzie is a true hero - a real hero, and as we stood there, we were so overwhelmed.  It was the utmost amazing honor to be a part of this group of people and to ride with you.  To be a part of this ride and a part of this group of wonderful people with the hugest hearts I have ever seen, is truely an honor for my wife and I.  Tears could not be held back we we rode with this group.  To be able to honor this young man and his family and to thank them for their sacrifice will be in our hearts forever.  Thank you Chief and Cowgirl.  Thank you to all those we had the pleasure of meeting.

Thanks Russ. Many need to know that you, Brett, Desertrose, Terry, and many others were there at staging with me at 7:15AM to start getting things set up. By our early presence we allowed those assigned officers from Pike in this area to patrol or post elsewhere throughout their property. And it was a good thing we got there early as other members started arriving to assist and/or register. Your trailer with the high-flying flags was most memorable. When we have a State PGR Rally, a small bottle of Crown would do, as long as you don't invite "Silver Eagle"!! LOL. Also, would you please pass any and all further Bic magic markers or Sharpies over to my good friends from Martinsville and Brown County, Sargeant Moon and Onion. They are my new, specially appointed or designated "writing" or "penmanship" squad at such functions in the future. This should save me from any future possible carpal tunnel syndrome hardships. LOL.

This is going to be a long one...

I work for the US Army as a civilian, so this war on terrorism is very close to home for me. I have many friends who are over there somewhere, people I know and work with...and some of their children...so when I heard of the Patriot Guard, I felt literally compelled to join. It is one small way I can give back to the people who are actually there, doing what needs to be done.

I was not able to make the first mission in our area due to work meetings that I could not get out of, and I wanted to explain it to my boss so they understood that sometimes, I would be calling in to go on a mission to support and honor our soldiers. I know I work for our soldiers, but that is not the same. Hard to explain. But then again, I am sure you understand.

When we left on Monday afternoon to go to Indianapolis,  it was ok when we left but was getting colder as it got later and I was on the bike and with no radio had a lot of time to think. Trust me, there were times I was saying to myself. "Focus on why you are doing this Deb." and then I got to thinking just WHY am I? I felt so compelled to be there. I felt like it was something I had to do, that could be my child they were laying to rest! Freedom is definitley not free. Everyday we lose a little bit of it. And I remember the saying "All gave some, and some gave ALL" And that is so very true. From when we lost our friend Timmy in Vietnam and war first hit home for me...I finally arrived around 1230 and went immediately to my motel room and slept with a 6:30 wake-up call.  The spookiest thing happened tho, and it stayed with me my whole ride there, when I left work to come home and change my clothes, I was putting on my boots. Friends of mine had given me a Biker Betty Boop (I collect her) snowglobe in stars and stripes and when you wind up the key it plays the star spangled banner...all the sudden it started playing and I got goosebumps. It had been sittin up there for months and never had that happened before.

When we went to sign up, I was reading the internary paper they had and they said they needed 24 of the PGR to leave the staging area early and to stand at the entrance on Flag detail.  I asked if they needed anymore people for that detail and they said FOR SURE! and they signed us up and I was then on Flag detail.

I was very proud to be there honoring a soldier and family that gave so much for us. I cannot tell you what an honor this was to be able to be a part of honoring this young man, Cpl Antoine McKinzie, and supporting his family and friends. Tuesday has certainly touched me in a way I will never forget.  The emotion you feel in your heart with the sorrow and the pride all at the same time is phenominal to say the least. I was so proud to be an American at that moment.  The people that stood with me were so professional and respectful. I watched the LEOs blocked off the streets, there had to be at least 65 vehicles following the family in, and then the 190 or so motorcycles that lined the circular drive and entrance, most of them bearing flags which was also a phenominal sight and sound.

I want to say also that the respect the PGR has shown for all our fallen heroes is beyond belief. I am truly proud to stand with such a fine group of loving, caring and patriotic people! God Bless all of you! Nowhere else in this world can so many complete strangers join together in such a manner. There were people from South Carolina, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Mississippi.  It is astonishing to say the least. Here I was beginning to think patriotism had died, that this country had deaf ears - to find that America still exists. As one person said:

"Rising up out of the garbage that birthed the movement,
Standing tall, riding tall, with a single voice and a single cause;
to honor America's fallen heroes."

To show what I mean, that same day, in addition to CPL Antoine McKinzie of Indianapolis, IN service, there were 2 other mission/services going on. One for Tech Sgt Walter Moss of Houston, TX and one for SSG Eric McIntosh, Trafford, PA (he was laid to rest in the Arlington National Cemetery in DC).

This goes to show, Patriotism abounds across the USA and I am so damn PROUD to be an American!

On a side note, you Hossiers ROCK!  Chief, Cowgirl, and all that were in charge of organizing this did an absolute fantastic job!  You are to be commended for sure.  I would be proud to stand with you at another time.

If anyone has pictures they would not mind sharing I would love to have some.  My camera broke and I left in such a hurry I did not stop to buy even a throwaway one.

We met some wonderful people and rode home with woodmaster (Larry).  I got in around 1130 last night.  and Larry, your email is not working for me.  You asked me to let  you know when we got home...well we did!

Take care all.  And THANK YOU for letting me be a part of this.
Got your message and glad I am on my way to bed so this is short, story of my life.
woodmaster@frontiernet.net     and thanks for calling me even if I didnt know what I would do for sure but I would for sure do something. BET ? goodnight

We met some wonderful people and rode home with woodmaster (Larry).  I got in around 1130 last night.  and Larry, your email is not working for me.  You asked me to let  you know when we got home...well we did!

Take care all.  And THANK YOU for letting me be a part of this.

Hugs and Love

Thanks ddaddyo, but the reality of it is that this was an effort above and beyond the call of duty by Chief_Investigator and Cowgirl. They were fraught with many possible scenarios and of which not many were pleasant. They organized and organized and did a job that anyone would be amply proud of and yes we are a Team but the leaders on this one exhibited energy and effort that was contagious to the rest of the team. I have more than once told them of the great job they did. I was just a consultant on this one.

God bless Cpl McKinzie and his family. Made it home safe Tues night, attended Mr Elder's funeral in Nashville today with Purplegirl and saw her safely on the way home to SC about 4 O'clock. Thanks to all the PGR that made me feel welcome in the "Northern Territories" please feel free to visit the south sometime.
Thanks to Chief, Cowgirl, and Indyharley for going above and beyond the call. Continously the PGR members go above and beyond in a way that speaks volumes about the sort of people we are. I am as proud to be a member of the PGR as I am to be a vet. God bless you all too.

Wow !  What fantastic mission reports...
Cowgirl and Chief, if you think you could have done better, I want to hear it from anyone who wishes to call and enlighten me.   (219-670-6361)
As a looonnnngggg time "organizer" of many, many events & rides, including military, biker and military/biker.  I have to say that you deserve special recognition.
I think when we have the Indiana State PGR Rally later this year, MSgt Cahill and I may have something special in store for you...(and it is not just another big bottle of crown)
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I know you both spent many, many hours thinking and seeking advice and calling and attending meetings...  It showed....
I hope you never have to make this effort again.  But if we are called upon,  I want you to know that it would be my honor to stand with you again.
