Two Part Mission - WW2 Army Veteran Charles Maupin, Lewisburg, OH / McKee, KY Feb 16//17

Charles Maupin, age 83, of Lewisburg, Ohio died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at his residence. He was a U.S. Army W.W. II veteran and a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion Post in Lewisburg, OH.  Charles is the Grandfather of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Keith “Matt” Maupin who is Missing in Action in Iraq.

When I spoke to Charles son, Keith Maupin, (father of two active duty servicemen including MIA US Army Staff Sgt Matt Maupin), he told me that he was glad to hear from me and would appreciate our coming out to honor his father. I’ve come to know Keith over the last year as we have supported his efforts to locate his missing son and even more so as a result of his attendance of every military homecoming, send-off, and funeral service in the area. In Keith’s words, “My father was my hero as I grew up…”  I told him that while the loss of a loved one is painful, even in his grief  he should consider himself a lucky man. After all, heroes have constantly surrounded him… his father as a child, and now two sons who are faithfully serving in our military today. He agreed completely.

Please keep the Maupin family in your thoughts and prayers, especially in this sad and painful time.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of WW II Veteran Charles Maupin. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Charles.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: 1. Jesus Christ. 2. The American G.I. One died for your soul, the other for your Freedom.

What Heroes Gave

Each donned their uniform to be
Defenders of our liberty

Their mission sure, their spirits bright
Guard freedom’s home, be brave to fight

One final day each faced their call
Each gave their best enduring all

We’ll never know what they went through
But know they loved this country true

Deep down inside we should all feel
What heroes gave, their cost so real

We must stay thankful, grateful of
The gift of freedom through their love

Their loved ones bore the gravest pain
What we can’t know, some now sustain

To God I pray their pain will cease
And each will find long-lasting peace

Remember this from year to year
What heroes gave – shan’t disappear

We’ll never let their special day
Their time for honor slip away

These brave fought for a nation free
If not for them, where would we be?

We, here in Oregon offer our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the services of Mr. Maupin...now you may watch over your family and America, but most especially your wonderful, heroic grandson, Matt. Perhaps you may guide our service members to him, so that he may return home!

Keith, I know that losing your dad is especially hard, particularly while your son is still missing! Please know that we are there with you even if it is only in Spirit...but the great spirit of the Patriot Guard Riders is a fairly strong one at that!

I will light a candle for your father and place it along with the candle that I light for your son, and while I am at it, I shall light one for the rest of your fine American family!
