May God wrap his arms around the family and keep them safe.  The ALR is standing by to ride in honor of this hero.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

To the family of Chief Defrenn, my condolences and heartfelt thanks for your sacrifice for our free country -

As the father of a Army aviator (CW2, Kiowa, 10th Mountain Division) I understand and appreciate the sacrifice and risk our pilots take every single time they go up, from the first time at Fort Rucker to their last mission -

Please know that, as insignificant as it may seem, there are many standing with you - - -

Here are some details on CW Defrenn, A/C was conducting Combat Air Patrol in trail position when it came under heavy machine gun fire. Pilots called in to lead and announced they had lost utility hydraulics and could no longer fire gun, but could go fixed rockets. In spite of their severely damaged A/C, they radioed that they were ready to engage. They continued to provide cover while attempting to acquire and suppress the enemy to keep attention away from their wingman, when A/C was brought down near an island in the Tigris River near Taji. Break BAMBERG – U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Jason DeFrenn was expected to arrive in Bamberg in a couple of weeks to be with his wife, the former Jenny Still of Bamberg, for the birth of the couple’s second child. But on Friday, DeFrenn was killed in Iraq when the helicopter he was piloting was shot down by enemy fire. After learning of her husband’s death, Mrs. DeFrenn was taken to Palmetto Baptist in Columbia where doctors worked to induce labor. At approximately 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Christopher Andrew DeFrenn was born, weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. The father he will never know, Jason DeFrenn, died when his Apache helicopter crashed near an island in the Tigris River and burst into flames. According to Julie Pate Ulmer of Bamberg, a cousin of Jenny DeFrenn, the nine-year Army veteran was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, before being deployed to Iraq about five and a half months ago. It was DeFrenn’s second tour of duty in Iraq. He had been flying military helicopters for approximately five years. Originally from Barnwell, DeFrenn attended the Barnwell public school system through 1989. His wife is a 1997 graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. Ulmer said the two met about 10 years ago when DeFrenn managed the Bamberg Pizza Hut where Jenny DeFrenn was also employed. They were married in 1999. Jenny DeFrenn has been residing in Bamberg with her parents, Tony and Judy Still, ever since her husband’s recent deployment. The couple had one son together, Michael, who will turn five years old today, one day after his new brother was born. Mrs. DeFrenn’s parents’ home had been decorated for a party the family had planned to have for Michael on Saturday. However, the birthday party was postponed after his mother became ill. Upon learning of her husband’s death, Jenny DeFrenn was taken to Palmetto Baptist. Family members describe CW2 Jason DeFrenn as someone who loved the military and his family. They said he was “very smart, family oriented, kind and thoughtful.” DeFrenn had also served tours of duty in Hawaii and Germany. In addition to sons Michael and Christopher, DeFrenn had two other children from previous relationships. By LISA B. STOKES, T&D Correspondent Wednesday, February 07, 2007

Chief, thank you for your Service and Sacrifice. You flew all over the world in harms way-for us, for Freedom. You mother said it best "Whatever we think of this war, whatever we may think of the politics, my son believed if these people were not stopped, then our children and our children's lives would be destroyed," he said. "That's why he re-enlisted for the third time. I think he knew in his heart that he wasn't coming home." May God bless your Family, Friends, and Comrades. We will never forget you and yours.

Jason, You and I may have met, in passing, As I, have family in both Allendale and Barnwell County. I would like to meet you some day. You have given your all for a very grateful Nation. Please rest easy, in Gods, arms. Others will take up the torch for you. Little Christopher, you and your mom need to be strong, okay? You be the man in the family. When you are older, perhaps your mom will take you to the small cemetery in Boiling Springs. There are many hero's, like your Dad, who are buried there. To the family and friends of Jason Defrenn, I offer my sincere condolences. Take care and may God Bless.
