For folks wanting a bit of meal/coffee close to the staging area::

There is a restaurant at that intersection called Mi Rancho.  On the left before the stoplight, just next to the Exxon.

Spc Shipp, we thank you and your family for the sacrifice you have made. Heroes come in many forms, and you are one. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers for strength and faith and for the easing of the pain they are enduring. You join a special group of men and women who stand above others, you join my nephew, and we are proud. God bless your family.

Thank you for the mission you gave to your life in protecting our freedoms, and striving to give others, theirs. The lives of you and the men and women who have gone before you are raised high, and not given in vain. I honor you, and pray that our children will learn to do the same throughout coming generations. God bless your family, and may they keep their memories alive and rejoice in the life of a hero.

What a touching show of love, respect and support from a community. Riding with the procession was very tough to due with tears in my eyes. Seeing how the people of his community turned out, lined the road with people and flags, kids standing on the curb holding a flag saluting, two older couples getting out of their car to stand at attention and salute as we rode past. Fire trucks with their ladders crossed w/ flags, all the firefighters standing at attention holding flags. I could go on and on, but as I do, it brings the emotions baclk. Patriotism and support for our troops is alive and well in the Valley of South Texas. Spc Shipp, you are loved by not only your family and friends, but your entire community, you are their hero. May your family find peace knowing that. You can rest now Soldier.

I had the opportunity to go inside the church for the services as we sometimes do. I agree with all Dan said and want to add that by observing the services I had the priviledge to learn more about Darrell. From hearing his 4 sisters speak about how much he is loved and will be missed by them as well as the rest of the family and community. Then his friends from high school spoke of what he meant to them. The valley it appears is very proud of their fallen heroes and always step up to show sincere respects. It is always a special honor to take part in missions down there due to the community support given including the local veterans organizations. The ride was difficult to hold back the tears and steer my bike especially when one family had a huge banner that said "We love you, Darrell" I looked in my mirror and saw several bikes swerving as they fought tears. Thank you so much to the Shipp family for allowing PGR the opportunity to pay honor to your young hero. He will not be forgotten. I drove to Edinburg to spent the night at a local motel that pays homage to the Freddie Gonzalez (Medal of honor recepient from Viet Nam). I felt humbled yesterday to be in the presence of both these heros.
