HOMECOMING SCHEDULED FOR

234TH SIGNAL BATTALION SOLDIERS RETURNING FROM IRAQ

An informal homecoming ceremony for approximately 20 Soldiers from Companies A, B and C, 234th Signal Battalion, Iowa Army National Guard will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Passenger Terminal, Eastern Iowa Regional Airport, 2515 Arthur Collins Parkway SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The ceremony will begin promptly upon the Soldiers’ arrival and they will be released to their families immediately following the homecoming ceremony.

Local community officials and Iowa National Guard leadership will participate in the ceremony, and the public and media are Welcome and Encouraged to attend.

NOTE THAT THE CEREMONY DATE AND TIME IS APPROXIMATE AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO TRANSPORTATION ISSUES, SEVERE WEATHER, OR OTHER UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.

The Soldiers were mobilized in January 2006 at Fort Bliss, Texas, with additional training at Fort Hood, Texas, before departing for the Iraq theater of operations. They served in Iraq, providing wide-area communications support to coalition forces. The Soldiers arrived back in the United States in mid-November and have been outprocessing from active duty at Fort Hood, Texas.

These Soldiers were selected from three companies of the 234th Signal Battalion, located in Cedar Rapids (Co. A), Clinton (Co. B), and Marshalltown (Co. C). The 234th Signal Battalion was last deployed in 2003-04 to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror

Further details regarding rally points and times will be posted later today.

Job well done, 234th!!!! I was in Co. A, 234 Sg Bn from '75 to '81 in Des Moines (& Camp Dodge), before it was moved to CR (at which time I went over to the dark side... the Air NG, 132 TFW ).

I'm planning on being there, and a couple of us will be leaving the Des Moines area (from Zooks HD) about 1:00.  Let me know if you'd like to ride along.

Thank you for serving with pride and honor!    WELCOME HOME!!!
