Come join us for the annual Batesville Holiday Parade held this Saturday November 18. This will be a short parade through town and a good way for bringing in the holiday season. We plan to ride bikes with flags displayed and whatever else would represent the holidays.  Food and craft vendors will sell their wares at the downtown shopping village between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The holiday parade begins at 1 p.m.

Doug Graham has offered to host staging with refreshments prior. Staging @ 11:30 with kickstands up for parade lineup @ 12:00. The Batesville VFW Post 3183 has offered their warmth and hospitality afterwards.

Anyone wishing to attend, but need directions can contact Doug or myself. Contacts are Doug 812-212-2997 (cell) 812-933-0331 (home) or dggraham92@nalu.net Tim 812-212-1297 (cell) 812-934-2578 or tkief@yahoo.com.

We realize there is a mission in Muncie on the same day, but had previously organized this event.  We would like to continue with this mission  to remember our troops both here and abroad during the beginning of this holiday season.

We had a great day for the parade considering it is now almost December. The sky was overcast with the sun occasionally peaking through the clouds, but it was dry. Six bikes showed up at Doug's and as promised he had refreshments and also eats for everyone. After refreshments we mounted up for the short (about 1 mile) trip into town for lineup. As we stood kickstands down awaiting the start of the parade, a gentleman approached myself and Mazie. Neither one of us knew the man, but we could tell he wasn't there to compliment us on how nice we looked. Turns out he was a Vet and former man in uniform (we assumed Vietnam). He came only to tell us he wanted us to know how much appreciated we all were for what we were doing for him and everyone else who has served. We could tell those words were not easy ones for him to speak. With that said he walked away as quickly as he had appeared. That alone was enough to make the whole parade a success. Once the line began to move, it didn’t take long to see that we were going to get warm quick. Luckily it was a fairly cool day. As we proceeded along the route, we all saw numerous familiar faces. Some recognized who we were and some, I think, were seeing the PGR for the first time. As we approached halfway, the local radio station was announcing the entries as they passed. As were announced, the crowd applauded and cheered our presence. We obviously made a little bit of response ourselves. I myself remember at least three occasions along the route where people applauded and cheered yeah Patriot Guard. As we neared the parade end, we decided it was time to pull out. The bikes were starting to heat up due to the slow pace. We made a stop to unload the kids and took a short trip to allow the bikes to cool prior to our last stop. Once at the VFW, we sat down with a friend and Vietnam Vet for a few refreshments. It was a great idea Doug had and I think everyone, including my kids, enjoyed themselves.
