MISSION COMPLETE

SSgt Jacobs is indeed a remarkable indivdual. As I told his mother "While one of his legs may be a little shorter, he stands as tal as any man I've ever met." He is a pure example of the inner strength and dignity that our military and especially the USMC conjure in our minds. I am foreever grateful to him and to his family, who gave us the opportunity to meet him. If you weren't inspired, you weren;t there! God bless you Damion, and thank you for your service and example.

My thanks and gratitude to the folks who came out for this mission this afternoon. We had 27 bikes and 4 cars and were able to make quite a display outside the Veterans Park Lodge when SSgt Jacobs arrived. He ws pretty much speechless, as this was a complete surprise to him. As always our members here in SW Ohio never fail to amaze me with their dedication and the heartfelt respect they show to our servicemen and women. We also had a couple of folks from Indiana come over and as always their assistance is appreciated. The other good news is that we had 7 members show up for their very first mission. To them I extend my thanks as well. Without them, we would not be able to continue the work we have started.

First of all, I want to thank Brian for inviting us.  You're a good friend to SSGT Jacobs.  You allowed us to honor a hero and to let him know the people he's never even met before appreciate him and support him.  I look forward to seeing you again some time.

Also I want to thank SSGT's family and friends for make us feel welcomed.  What a wonderful group of people.  To SSGT's parents, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be there to share your pride, excitement and memories of this special day.

I was the last PGR member to leave... I really thought it would be you, Andrews.   I took a little time to talk with SSGT's mom and dad before I left.  So, when I did leave, SSGT was outside and it was just him and Brian.  We had a chance to talk more out there than we did inside.  What an amazing man with such a positive outlook.  He was so friendly and welcomed us so warmly.  He told me he had no idea that it would be anything but just family and he couldn't believe it when he saw us.  He didn't know what to say.  We talked for a little bit and I just can't even begin to describe what a phenomenal man he is.  And what a humbling experience to be standing with an American hero and have him tell me "Thank you." when he's the one who has made all the sacrifices for me.

SSGT Jacobs, Brian had to prod me a few times to until I came over to talk  to you.  For once, I was at a loss for words.  I couldn't find the words to tell you what I was thinking.  Maybe some day I'll find them, but yesterday wasn't the day.  I hope you could just feel it in the hugs.  I know I told you yesterday, but I'll say it again.  Thank you for serving our great nation, SSGT Jacobs.  Welcome home!

Just before I left, SSGT said something that I will remember as long as I live: Every day is beautiful.

A day later and I still remain speechless.  The turnout was more than I ever would have imagined and I am certain Damion appreciated it.  After you left, Gumby, Damion and I sat around for a little while talking.  He never expected anything like what all of you gave him yesterday.

It was an enormous honor for me to have taken part in the ride to Veterans Park... then to be given a pin for completing my first mission... again, speechless.

I thought I would have felt out of place, not having served our Country, but from the moment I arrived at the staging area, each of you made me feel as welcome as if I just walked in to my parent's home.  Thank you.  You can be certain you will see me on more missions.

It was a great pleasure to meet all of you.

Brian

PS - Gumby, you said that by the end of the day you would give me a "name".  I registered as BAnascar, but will gladly change it once you give me one.

It was a surprise to find out that Ssgt Jacobs is also an alumni of the same small high school ( Stephen T. Badin) as my wife and I!! That became quite apparent as soon as we rolled into the lot at Veterans Park & started recognizing the friends of the family! It was really nice to ride for a homecoming this time, and meet such a proud & determined Marine!! SSgt Jacobs, people like YOU make it easy, for the rest of us to be proud to call ourselves AMERICANS

Let me start by thanking you SSGT Jacobs you are truly an American Hero. As I sit here today reading all the posts from those who were there and those who were there in spirit my heart swells and tears fill my eyes with pride for the love and compassion everyone feels for your service and sacrifice. I most certainly would have been there to thank you, shake your hand and welcome you home had I not been out of town all last week. Once again Thank You, God Bless You and Welcome Home for YOU truly are an AMERICAN HERO.
