LilBoss,
It is with great sadness that I write to you to express my sincere condolences at the loss of Ron. Mudflap said it best, you both have been there for all the RFTW and PGR. I am trying to get my schedule arranged so I can be there Saturday to honor an esteemed member of F-Troop! May God hold you in his hands.

I've been down sick for the last few days. I think it would be unwise for me to make this mission, I don't want to infect the rest of you as well as it cramping my recovery. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all tomorrow, ride safe.

To Ron's family;

I met Ron in Boulder and let me tell you that man teased me all day long about running around barefoot. He made everyone laugh a little through a difficult situation. He had a great spirit and an infectious sense of humor. I hope that you all can find comfort in knowing that he is in a better place waiting for you.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Sorry but I must stand down for this mission, couldn't get any sleep and I don't want to put anyone in danger on the road.

Ron I only met you once at Ft Carson but you showed you cared about the people that are serving today. So go in peace brother. I wish I could have made this ride.

Words cannot express my gratitude. The expressions of sympathy and concern eased a difficult time.

To all who were able to attend this Mission, thank you. To those who were unable to, I know you were with us in spirit. Our family and community were deeply touched and honored. I don't know how to tell you how much your presence meant.

Thank you for the gifts. They will be a great help during this transition.

Mission Accomplished.

God Bless the Patriot Guard Riders.

20 Nov 2006 5:01 PM Alert
I met Fidel and Lil Boss during the D.C. portion of this year's RFTW. Fidel and I ended up eating under the same tree at a BBQ Saturday afternoon, and I happened to be taking notes for a story I was doing for a Navy photojournalism course. Noticing that I am left-handed, he immediately started calling me Southpaw. It's a name I heard a number of times throughout the rest of the weekend, as I continously bumped into him and we talked more and more. We had one particularly amazing conversation at The Wall after riding with Rolling Thunder; I remember the exact spot where we sat, and I know I'll recall our talk every time I pass it in the future. He and the many other RFTW vets I met that weekend changed my life in a way I wasn't sure I could ever express in words - but he knew and he helped me find those words for my story. Fidel is definitely one of the most memorable people I've ever met in my life. By the end of the weekend he decided Southpaw was too easy to figure out, so he dubbed me DaVinci. He kind of "adopted" me after that and we often exchanged e-mails. He and Lil Boss even came to visit me at my ship in San Diego, even though I was stuck on duty and it was too late for me to take them on board for a tour. We spent about an hour-and-a-half just talking in the parking lot. I am honored and blessed for the time I got to spend with Fidel on this earth.

Lil Boss - my prayers and love are with you and your family. I'm sorry I was not able to make the service in Colorado, but I hope and pray that I will see you somewhere along the road in the near future. Please take care, and I hope to talk to you soon.

All my love and respect,
DaVinci
