The services for this Hero are today (16 Nov 06), and are private for family and those who knew him only. We respect that request from the family. Our hearts are breaking for you all, but we will not forget his sacrifice. Flags are at half staff in honor of Specialist Desjardins, by order of the Governor. Know that there are over 60,000 PGR members there in spirit with you in this time of difficulty.

November 07, 2006

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Douglas C. Desjardins, 24, of Mesa, Ariz., died Nov. 5 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his M1A1 Abrams tank during combat operations. Desjardins was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Ray Barracks, Giessen, Germany.

My heart stops every time I see a notice to inform us that another one of our brave troops have fallen. Know that it is with a sad heart and deepest respect to the family and friends that I pass on my condolences. May your hearts be lifted in the knowledge that Douglas is in heaven standing tall as an honorable hero in the cause for our freedom.
