Arrived home safely, albeit a bit more than just damp, around 1530. What a very moving sight to see the citizens of Follansbee, everyday "Joe's" and those attending the fair in Eldersburg as they stood at attention, saluted, applauded or just in humble respect as the procession proceeded to the cemetery. That just serves to reinforce my feeling that there is much more good in this country than people sometimes think.
An excellent job, again, by the West Virginia State Police, Brooke County Sheriff's Department and Follansbee City Police in providing our safe egress and travel. Thank you gentlemen.
My sincere "Thank you" to CJ's family for allowing the Patriot Guard Riders to play a small part in his services. It is very apparent you are all wonderful, patriotic Americans. It is my hope and prayer that you will find the necessary comfort from God to see you through these most trying times. His service and sacrifice shall never be forgotten.
Ron...an excellent job of staging this mission, especially under very trying circumstances for you. My hat's off to you "LM".
Hope all arrived home safely. My apologies for not going to the American Legion.

| Home safe and in awe of the support we witnessed today. I am also amazed at the number of new members and first timers today especially considering the weather.. I have given pins to first timers before but never ranout and had to pull them off my vest. It is an honor to know you all and if the need arises I will be honored to stand beside you again. Rode north through the rain with Sharon and I give you a lot of credit for being out on a day like that especially as a new rider. To all the newcomers welcome again and keep the spirit going. Ron great job and great to seee you as always. To all the oldtimers keep leading and doing great things. To CJ's family thank you for letting me be a part of this great showing for a true American hero. He will not be forgotten |

| Arrived home safe from Sgt. McClain's mission. If anyone has ever questioned or if we have questioned ourselves as to why we do what we do, the answer was clear today. When Sgt. McClain's young son came down the line to shake hands and thank each of us I knew in my heart why I was there. This was the most touching and heart wrenching thing that I have ever experienced. May God bless and keep Sgt. McClains family in his arms and Thanks for allowing me to be there for them today. A heartfelt thanks to all of the PGR brothers and sisters. |

My sincere condolences to the family of Sgt. McClain and thank you for allowing us to share in honoring C.J. today.
I was impressed by the attendance of the citizens of Follansbee as they also stood in the light rain with their flags, particularly the younger folks who also stood with reverence. Some fine young people. Also, to the very young patriot, Cole, who insisted he meet everyone on the flag line. You absolutely earned the Mission Accomplished dog tag that somebody generously pinned to your shirt!
The folks attending the fair in Eldersville showed their part in honoring Sgt. McClain as they paused in their activities as the procession passed through enroute to the cemetery.
Thanks to all of the Captains involved for a safe, successful mission of honor!

| Arrived home safely. Today was my first mission – I’ve never been more proud to be an American -- meeting Sgt. McClain’s young son who acted like quiet the polite little soldier as he went down the line introducing himself and asking each of our names, the townsfolk who came out to pay their respects, the military presence (past and present). It was an honor and a privilege to pay respects to a soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Sgt. McClain and all of our soldiers are forever in my heart. Thank you. You will not be forgotten. |

I feel I must add a footnote to Ron's report and those who have posted their own comments.
West Virginia, thankfully, has not been hit too hard with casualties in this war on terror but, on missions such as this that do 'hit home', I am extremely honored and proud to stand alongside my fellow Patriot Guard Riders from surrounding states. Some of you, I know, travelled great distances under very adverse conditions to show CJ and his family the honor and respect he so deserved and earned. My hat is off to each and every member, whether new or old, that took part in any part of this most honorable mission.
The privilege of providing escort to CJ and his family from the airport to the funeral home is something I will not soon forget. Bud, thank you for allowing me the honor of riding the Missing Man formation. Even today, I get a lump in my throat when remember those along the way who stopped what they were doing to salute the procession as we passed. Meeting Anita at the funeral home is one of the hardest things I've had to do in my lifetime. My heart goes out to her, and all members of CJ's family, for their loss.
Being afforded the opportunity to stand in honor of CJ and those who came to pay their respects during the visitation ceremonies is also something I will remember for a long time.
To see all those who came to stand for CJ services, again, I thank you for your dedication. Kudos, also, to the citizens of Follansbee who stood outside the funeral home, holding their flags, in solemn respect for what was occuring inside.
Thank you, Patriot Guard Riders, for helping make this mission the success that it was.
Thank you, the family of Sgt Charles McClain, for allowing us to stand in CJ's honor.
CJ, you may now rest in eternal peace. We have the watch. God Speed.

I was glad to see a good turnout. This one was in my home territory and it felt good to see a good showing of support. Each one of the missions I've done leave me with impressions that stand out in my mind. One moment from this one was when Sgt. McClain's mother hugged me and thanked me at the American Legion. She said, "He would have loved it. He would have been smiling from ear to ear." I tear up just thinking about it.
The local newspaper had a nice article about him with photos. And the Wheeling news did a nice report on the service.
The weather didn't exactly co-operate, but at least the worst of it waited until after the internment. I know some of us rode home in pretty strong winds and rain; including Jesse, myself, Hollywood, and Sharyn among others.
Speaking of Sharyn.... thank you and welcome to Sharyn and all the new and first time members who were there yesterday. I know it wasn't the best conditions for your first mission; but you all did a fine job.
Good job, Ron. Good job everyone. I think we paid good and proper respects and did the PGR purpose proud.

There are certain points in ones life, "lifes events" that forever change who you are, what you do and how you act. Any number of events can cause this change. Joing the PGR some time ago is one of those events in my life and in my wife's life as well. The Mission for SGT "CJ"McClain was one of those events also. From the escort to the family get together at the American Legion after the internment, we will never forget them and SGT McClain.
II had the opportunity during this MIssion to stand and talk with SGT McClain's Squad Leader and his Platoon Leader and a few fellow Heros from his unit. ALL will be returning to Afganistan before Thanksgiving, ALL. As I talked with them I could not help but to think how great this country is, how great these young men and women are. Here they are to honor their fellow comrade in arms, days away from returning into harms way and they are thanking us? Guys it is us who thank you, and pray for you.
Anita and family, Terry, Don and others, thank you for inviting us to your loved ones services. Take care of yourselves, rejoice in the fact that "CJ" is well, he is with all the heros that have gone before and he continues to watch and care for us as he did while on this earth. To the soldiers of "CJ's" unit, take care of yourselves, we expect you home safe and sound at the end of your tour, YOU ARE THE AMERICAN HERO, IT IS WE WHO THANK YOU.
PGR members, thank you. Not enough, but thank you. Ron, great job.

MISSION COMPLETE
Arrived home just in time as the rains let loose. Very good attendance considering the inclement conditions. Thank you to all new members and first-timers. Your participation and dedication is to be commended. Thank you to the WV State Police, Follansbee Police, and Brooke County Sheriff's Departments for doing, again, such a fine job. Thank you to all PGR members in attendance, independent riders, and others that rode with us. It was an honor to pay respect to this fine American hero. We totalled approximately 25 bikes and 6 cages. Good job ! Don, Rick, Joe, Bud,Magnet and Jess. Thanks guys for helping make this mission run smoothly. You gentlemen represent the professionalism the PGR is always showing.
To the family of Sgt. McClain, thank you so much for letting us show our appreciation to a true American hero.
Ride safe,
Ron J. |
