RIDE CAPTAIN - JOEL VEACH (joelveach808@hotmail.com)

The PGR is invited to attend a ceremony where we say thanks to veterans in a very special way.  I have been with the PGR since spring and believe in what we do with my whole heart.  Each person of the PGR will also be recognized whether a veteran or not.  We will also project on the big screen the new news release that we where given permission to use.  This will be a very special day and I (Pastor Randy Munson, Vietnam Veteran USMC) would love to have the opportunity to say thanks for all you do.  Thank you and here is the news release that was sent out.

On Sunday, November 12, 2006, the Lewistown Church of the Nazarene will be hosting their First Annual Military Appreciation Day.  Many special events are planned for this year’s service.  Even though this is Lewistown’s first Military Day, Pastor Munson has been the coordinator for Military Appreciation for the last 10 years in Casey Illinois and Three Rivers Michigan.

The service will begin with the presentation of the colors which will take place promptly at 10:00 a.m.  The service will include an extensive amount of patriotic music, a very special recognition of each Veteran in attendance (wear your uniform...if you can!) and a personal message from Pastor Randy Munson (Vietnam Veteran USMC).

The church plans a Memorial Gallery that will display photographs of deceased veterans.  If you would like to submit a photo of a family member or friend (preferably in uniform) to be included in the Memorial Gallery, the deadline is Wednesday, November 8.  Photos may be dropped off at the church office or e-mailed to lwstnnazpstr@sbcglobal.net or even snail mail to the church at 13192 North U.S. 24 Hwy.  Lewistown, IL 61542.  Please be sure to label the photo with the service member’s name, rank, branch of service, and years of service along with your name and telephone number.  Photos will remain on display throughout the day Sunday and may be picked up at the church anytime throughout the following week between 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Bring you camera and have your picture taken with family and friends in front of a 25 foot American Flag!

There will also be a segment of the service dedicated to the recognition of Active Duty Service Members.  Persons with loved ones or friends that should be included may call and leave pertinent information with Cynthia, voice mail, or e-mail at the address above.  Please be sure to include the active duty service member’s name, rank, and branch of service, along with your name and telephone number, in case of questions.  This information will be graphically displayed during the recognition service.  Pictures may be submitted by November 8.

Activities will also include a special Memorial Service with a 21 gun salute in the honoring of the Deceased Veterans.  Surviving Spouses of Deceased Veterans will also be acknowledged during the service.

At the conclusion of the morning’s activities, Veterans and their immediate families are invited to remain at the church for a complimentary Noon Luncheon. If you like food be sure to plan on staying.  D

The church is fully handicap accessible, but if you need special arrangements, please feel free to call ahead.  The church is located at 13192 North U.S. 24 Hwy, which is just one mile South on Rt 24. If you need directions or additional information, please contact the church office at (309)547-2023.

Everyone is welcome!

Thank you to Rev. Munson and his congregation for inviting the PGR today.
The service was very emotional. Great honor and respect was given to veterans past and present. When the video of the fallen veterans was being shown, and a veteran in the congretion stood, others also stood.  I lost it at that point.

The luncheon was absolutely delicious!!

I want to thank the PGR for taking time to come and make the day special for the veterans that where honored today.  One retired Marine came to me and said in all the years he served and even since he's been retired he has never witnessed such patriotism.  You did an outstanding job posting the colors and with the flags along the walls it was nothing short of spectacular.

There was a number of individuals that said the PGR video was very informative and there was not a dry eye in the church.  Thanks for a job well done on the video.  I know there are some vets that left with the intent on becoming a PGR member themselves.

Again thanks from the pastor as well as the church.  We were the ones that felt honored by having you there.

Also thanks for letting this pastor be a part of something very meaningful to me.  As a Vietnam vet riding with you all makes me so proud.  You are doing the right thing and I am just tickled to be a part.

God Bless and I am looking forward to meeting more of you.

Just one of the many items that happen today. Towards the end of the activities in the cuyrch was when they played the video of the Patriot Guard Riders of Illinois. Towards the end of the video was the heroes who had been KIA from this area and the one marine vet stood up in the audience and came to attention and held his salute and then all of the other vets stood up and did the same.  Wow, that was very emotional and I had a few tears form in my eyes. For you folks that missed this, it was one very moving ceremony. Gary, Illinois Cowboy, as the only one on the bike you had one very cold ride to and from this special mission. You made us all proud and you always do. Deb, as sick as you are, you still came and held the flag line because it was the right thing to do. This just shows you the spirit of the Patriot Guard Riders of Illinois. Makes me feel humble to be a part of this group.  This Church had 3x5 Flags on 8 foot poles all around the outside of the church. The pastor of this church is a member of the patriot guard riders and you could tell he took great pride in it.  Even on the wall inside of the church was a large Patriot Guard Riders Flag.

Deb, get well and I and others will be thinking of you.

Pastor Randy,

Thank you so much for allowing us to participate in your
Military Appreciation Day. It was our honor to be there.

I, for one, was glad to hear "God Bless the USA" twice.
I don't know the young man's name who sang it, but he did a
tremendous job. It was very moving.

Like Max said above, when the Vets who were there, one by one,
started standing and saluting our local fallen Heroes, it
became very emotional for me. What a sight it was.

The sight of all those American flags surrounding the church upon arrival
was awesome. Thanks again and I'll see you next year.

Reverend Munson, thank you for having us be a part of your
service. It was absolutely heart lifting , and when the Vets stood in
Honor of our fallen Heros on the Defenders Video, myself and Claudette
were weeping so hard. It was truely an Honor to be in the presence of all
the Vets and our Creator, because most definetly He was there and very much
approved of the day. Thanks again. Deb Veach (ladyrider)
And to Gary(Cowboy) once again you are a trooper, thanks for riding in.

Chris and Joel:

Thanks for allowing the PGR to support our Military Appreciation Day here at the Lewistown Nazarene Church.  It was one huge success and you can be very proud of the PGR.  They did it right again and I am so proud to be a part of this group.

The posting of the colors was absolutely beautiful.  The PGR came down the center isle with the Colors flying high and stood for over two hours as we honored every veteran personally as well at through tributes with song and power point presentations.

Chris, I want to personally thank you for the time and energy you put into the PGR DVD.  It was incredible and there was not one eye dry in the house.  The first picture of the Illinois deceased veterans started one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever witnessed.  An old retired Marine stood instantly and held his salute through the entire collogue of pictures and was followed by every veteran in the sanctuary.  It is beyond words to explain the sight and it wasn't just tears, everyone was weeping for those that gave their lives for our country.

Afterwards the old retired Marine came up to me and made this statement.  "In all the years in the Corp and the years following, I have never witness patriotism the way I witnessed it today".  With tears in his eyes he gave me a thank you salute.

Chris & Joel thank you again for allowing the PGR to be a part of such a fine event.  It couldn't have happened the same without your support and dedication to the cause of veterans.

The church also says thanks because if it wasn't for the American flag the Christian flag would not fly with out persecution.

Here is a couple of pics that you might enjoy.

God Bless
