MM is a good road. W is a bit slower, but still a good road. I ride it all the time.

There is a QT at the intersection of W (109) and Interstate 44. Good place to gas up.

Exit 266 is two (2) miles East of Eureka.

We'll be set up by 8:30. How many riders? (We'll provide "Fat Pills", soda's and coffee.

All riders starting the escort at Fort Leonard Wood

The staging area with be at the St Robert Auto Mall - formerly the old Dodge, Chyrsler, Plymouth Dealership on the Nort side of Missouri Avenue. The lot (paved) and building are empty with a wide driveway entering Missouri Avenue. It is located between Century 21 and Arby's on the North side and directly across the street from Auto Financial.

The buses are scheduled to leave the Fort at 0800, please arrive at the staging area gassed up and ready to ride between 0700-0730 (they may leave a little early). We will be riding as far as Eureka approximately 105 miles and handing the buses off to the next group of riders.

Leave the big flags home, guess-timated speed will be approximately 70 MPH or whatever the buses can do.

Thanks for riding.

Thanks Ron, looks like a decent ride and should save us some miles.  I'm hoping for a dozen making the ride to 266.  We really appreciate your picking up the ball at the handoff.  This is turning into a classic PGR team effort.

See you there.

Any St. Louis folks considering the Eureka to Cape part of the mission?  I'm thinking of joining the SEMO group at exit #266 and riding all the way in to Cape.  Anyone else?

SEMO group, what time do you expect to arrive at exit #266?

Randy-I'll be making that M crossing between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning.  I'll be riding from 266 down to probably St. Gen.

I live at I-55 and Highway M. I will meet at 266 to ride to Cape.

SE riders, M is much better than 141 as there are few lights and a lot less traffic and the last part (MM and W) is along the Meramec River and nice and winding. Highway M is the first 10 miles, about half the total distance, and it is 4 lane divided with only 1 traffic light. There is only one turn, a right turn lane bypassing the only stop sign after the ride along the river and just before you get to Eureka, and it is well marked "Eureka".

Be aware of 2 things:
Maybe 5 miles past the 4 lane section you cross Highway 30, and the section from the McDonalds to the Big River Bridge is a notorious 35 mph radar trap, only a half mile, but it can be an expensive half mile.

Hwy W meets I44 at Eureka at exit 264, so you have to turn right onto I44 EAST to the next exit (266), not west.

SMALL ITINERARY CHANGE:  We are not stopping at Jefferson Barracks, but instead will run straight to Cape.  Watch your fuel.  We'll try to get them to stop for top off.

I tracked down the 110th today at Fort Wood. The buses will be leaving at 0800 for sure. I gave them a cell number to contact me when they start moving. The Major was very excited about the escort as were a number of thr troops I spoke with. Sure hope we get a good showing of riders in the morning.

I regret that commitments at home will keep me from making this ride. Keep safe everyone, and wish the members of the 110th a hearty welcome home for me!

Our soldiers are home.  Thanks everyone.  Joe, Randy - thanks for all your work at your end.  We owe you.  Our escort ended up being more like a trail blazing - but I liked us sneaking in the back way to the Armory and being able to park and set up as our heros arrived.  If someone got a bike count, lemme know.  I'm guessing we had between two and three dozen before we landed.  When we got to the handoff point there were already a dozen riders waiting; and I know we picked up nearly a dozen along the way.  I heard one gal at the ceremony say she saw the bikes roll in and they were awesome!

We had a PGR moment.  Shortly after the troops unloaded and headed in to the Armory for their ceremony, several of us were by the bikes rehashing the day.  A soldier walked up and stood in the middle of us and began to tell us how much he and his buddies appreciated all we have done - and he went on to say he meant it from the bottom of his heart.  You could tell he was reaching down and that it wasn't something easily shared.  As he turned and walked away several of us responded that this was all for him and his fellow soldiers and it was us that appreciated what they have done.  After he left we all took a little breath.  Somehow it had hit home that this was more than an escort mission.

Thanks again everyone.

Thanks RD, it was an honor to spend a few hours for the sacrifices these folks made! Ya'll looked impressive as we rolled off the Interstate, you had the on ramp filled with bikes! Bev was great and right on time with drinks and donuts when we pulled into your rally point. Sorry we didn't have time to shoot the breeze, but then again I'm glad we didn't, that would have meant a different type mission.

The Fort Leonard Wood to Eureka leg of the mission is complete, three riders made the trip. Many thanks to Anja and Frank for joining me on this ride you both were great company!

We meet the bus carrying the 110th Engineers at 0815 just outside the gate of the Fort and lead the bus to Eureka. Mother Nature and the Lord worked with us and held the cold and rain back for the ride to Eureka and back to St Robert, just after I parked my bike the rain started to fall, Anja and Frank I home you made it home safe.

We exited I-44 at the 266 exit where the next group of riders took over the remainder of the mission. It appeared they had at least 20 bikes, they had the "on" ramp filled nicely! We then stopped by their staging area and met Bev who waited patiently for us to show up and greeted us with hot coffee, donuts, soda, and water. Again Bev thank you so much, it was a pleasure to meet you.

Many thanks again to the 110th for your sacrifices over the past year, it was an honor to be a small part of your homecoming.

Randy48:

Thanks for helping Bev dismantle the Exit 266 staging area. Bev mentioned that she met you and Anya (who got the ball rolling last weekend!)

Monty: Thanks for loaning your PGR flag. The pole I fashioned last night wasn't that great, but at least we got the flag 12 feet in the air.

What a ride. The weather cooperated and I didn't get rained on until I was 4 blocks from home. Great timing. It was nice to have a mission that wasn't 40 degrees and raining or 70 MPH in the dark.

I'm glad we made a good showing. One lady stood in front of me and said something to the effect "When you guys rode up it was awsome. I haven't had a thrill like that in years!. (The last sentence is word for word.)

Just wanted to say thanks to all who helped coordinate the ride yesterday.  It was my second event with PGR in a week and I was truly impressed.  I happened to be around when that soldier came to thank us.  One more time I was moved.

What we do seems rather small but yet carries a real message.  Yesterday, while traveling I was monitoring CB ch 19.  I heard one voice come across the air waves saying, "look at all those bikes, You think they are trying to send a message?"  That message is clear.  It takes everyone to send that message.  Keep it going and way to get-r-done.

    Thanks again everyone,

Randy B.
