Thank you to all of you who attended this mission. Once again PGR members came out on a weekday at Fort Snelling to honor a hero of this nation, I am proud to be a part of this group with each and every one of you.

A special thank you to SE Metro Asst. Ride Captain John Thompson III for taking care of the execution of this mission in my absence. Although I couldn't be there in person, I was there with you all in spirit.

Below is a message I recieved from Steven Reiser, Pvt. Reiser's son. He asked me to share it with all of you.

================================================================
Thank you and your group of Patriot Guards for attending my Fathers send off yesterday at Fort Snelling. I was very impressed and appreciate everyone's time taken in honor of my Father.

They did a wonderful job. All the flags and color. I'm so grateful. There was a bugler there, along with a 21 gun salute.

Immediately after the service I acknowledge the various guard members and thanked them for being there.

I was never in the Armed Forces myself. I have a great respect for all who have served our country. So many have paid the ultimate price.

The Patriot Guard made a difficult day a little easier to bear and for that I'm truly greatfull.

I might have mentioned this in a previous e-mail andif so, forgive me for repeating myself. My Father was in the Army/Air Corps and worked with codes. He would, along with others, advance to the Front (France, June 1944) and establish communications in coded form. One day, he and a fellow comrade ended up in a mine field and his friend apparently set it off, wounded my Father, who ended up in England to recuperate from near fatal wounds. He then met my Mother who was a British Nurse, who was involved with the Royal Air Force and wounded pilots, etc. My Mother is a living history book who has told me many stories such as witnessing a dog fight between a Spitfire and a German fighter. She said the Spitfire was damaged but downed the 109 right off the Southern coast of England. She said the Spitfires were normally outnumbered by the German Fighters but all that changed after the Battle of Britain, if I recall what she told me, around Sept of 1940

She also remembers one day when a "Buzz Bomb" came down in her neighborhood and blew the back door off their home. Other then the door being blown off its hinges, the house was okay.

He married my Mother in December of 1945 and brought his war bride back to Minnesota. So, if my Father would not have been wounded on that particular date, I would not exist. It is strange knowing I only exist because he was wounded.

I was given his American Flag along with three spent rifle rounds in a special enclosed bag as a momento. I plan on encasing the flag along with the three rifle rounds.

Please thank your group on behalf of my family.

Sincerely, Steven Richard Reiser, Son of Richard Daniel Reiser (1923-2006)
