The preliminary data is, that the buses should be rolling into Shelbyville, Tennessee around 10 pm on Tuesday, November 21st.
It's recommend that everyone stage at the Shelbyville Wal-mart (always friendly to our group) and ride out at 8:30 to the county line to await the buses. The Shelbyville Police Department is on the job and promising Escort, The Fire Department wants to join in, so the more the merrier. At the County line, everyone waits for the buses. The LEO vehicles will lead the escort and block traffic., The Fire Units will be behind the LEO's but in front of the PGR. The PGR will surround the buses until the city limits are reached. Then a line of flag bearing bikes form a line to bring them home. Captain Adams (Shelbyville Police) has said they are being taken to an arena and that the local paper is informing everyone to bring out their yellow ribbons and flags.
I hope we can get a good turn out to welcome these Hero's home. If all is going well at my home front, I plan on being there. If there is anyone else in the Nashville area that would like to meet and ride with me, let me know and we find an area to meet. It's about 45 min. from my area to the tentative staging area.

Please find the thread located on the home page under welcome home rides. http://patriotguard.org/Forums/tabid/61/postid/271374/view/topic/Default.aspxLooking for ride captain involvement while we have time to plan. Maddog has covered a lot of ground on this one already. Need to get things coordinated with each other. This may well be the case where there will be more then one ride captain due to the mileage involved. It may be a case where someone who is not a permanent ride captain but is able and willing to be a temp. ride captain needs to take the reins and do a hand over at different locations. If you know now your available and want to be a part of this welcome home I encourage you to get the ideas posted and coordinated now! Please join in on this and get your idea's posted, we have some troops coming home! |

Can the members who reside in Shelbyville chime in on this. It would be great to have some inside help getting this in place for the welcome home which is about upon us.
It would be great to hear from Manchester and Tullahoma and Winchester members and all the other locals too. |

Jeff,
I'm a little over 200 miles away from Shelbyville, kinda like Maddog. As I'm a school teacher, we have classes on the 20th and the 21st. If this mission is on the 22nd, I'd like to participate. That's my window of opportunity in terms of participating. I wish local Shelbyville members would chime in with more info for us all. Thanks Jeff, Bill |

Annette, Let me know when and where you are going to leave from Nashville, I'll hookup with you and ride to the staging area in Shelbyville. That is assuming I'm in good enough physical condition to ride. My elbow has been bothering me for several weeks. Yesterday, I was putting some new pipes on a buddy's bike, and there was a LOUD pop. He asked me what broke, I told him my freekin elbow. Have a Dr. appt tomorrow, so hopefully, I'll be able to make this mission.

Hope is all well with your elbow! Keep us posted. Lynn, all modes of Transportation are welcome. The only time there was any restrictions that I know of was the parade in Brentwood. Everyone is welcome, hope to see a lot of old and new faces. I'll post a location to leave the Nashville area later. I am hoping to time it where the ones from Nashville maybe able to escort them into Shelbyville as the come through the Nashville area. Will advise if this is feasible as soon as I can get the info.

MISSION COMPLETE!!!
It was a clear and crisp night (in the 30's in some areas!) We had a handful of bikes brave the cold and a cage assist with the escort into Shelbyville. It took a couple of minutes to get into position, Mark Watrous and to dodge a large metal object the 1st bus hit and sent flying in his direction, luckily, he saw it coming and was able to avoid it. But once we were able to get in front of the first bus, behind the LEO's, all was smooth sailing. We had our flags flying proudly for our Hero's coming home!!
There were several folks along Hwy. 231 that waited for the buses to come through and were cheering and waving flags as we passed by. The entrance to our final destination was lit up like Christmas, lights were everywhere, emergency vehicles lined the way in. Once inside, the troops were unloaded and several stopped by to shake our hands and give hugs for the escort. I don't think they expected to see bikes out in those temps!! They don't know us as well as they though, huh!!
The commanding officer invited us to fall in behind the soldiers as they marched into the arena. That was a great honor to be asked to do that. Once they started inside, you could really hear the cheers going up for these hero's. Once they marched around and got into position in front of the crowds, a few words where said, we really could not hear too much, but when they were dismissed, that you could not miss! None of us had to wonder what was said then, the families swarmed the soldiers!! The one part of this really that really sticks out in my mind, and I probably won't ever forget this either, a young girl, maybe 7 or 8 years old, found her daddy, he picked her up and she wrapped her arms and legs around him so tightly, it looked like she wasn't going to ever let him go................ It was a picture that spoke volumes!
We received many hugs and thank you's for being there and participating in the escort. We were welcoming them home and thanking them for what they had been doing for us all these months away from their families and friends. Family members were also coming up to us and thanking us for what we were doing tonight, and what we do for the fallen soldiers also.
I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Mad dog, all the legwork you did made this homecoming a huge success!! We heard that channel 4 news, WSMV,was there also, filming. I never did see them, but several were talking about it.
I hoped everyone made it home safely, and finally thawed out!
