Update Posted 02 Nov 06 @ 0550cst

NOTICE!!!! 258th MI Welcome Home ride!!! Folks I just got notified that this unit will arrive around 1:00 pm this afternoon. By the time they get through a unit orientation, and then onto the buses to travel to Fort Polk, it will be around 4pm. Not real bad for folks that live around the area, but for folks traveling, this would mean going home in the dark. The wife of the soldier who requested this would love for folks to ride. She loves her husband and wants to do something nice for him and his unit. We do not have permission to ride in the convoy, the POC within the unit, has not gotten back with us, but with folks coming home and such, I can understand this. But there is no staging area, no route, and no permission to ride. I suggest that if there are folks around the Alexandria area, that want to show some symbol of support, that you may want rally at the church across from the England Airpark entrance off Bayou Rapides road. The Buses will pass this point on their way to LA28. By the time line that I have been given by Ms. Tracy that would have the buses moving through there at around 4:30pm. I am working with the MFR director and a couple of other folks to see what I can do to get this stuff resolved about the riding on this installation in support of services, and for honoring these guys when they return home. You would think, that some out there once they heard they wanted to do this type of support would assist in someway. Makes an old Sergeant Major, get red everytime I try and coordinate out there. Sorry! for this short notice, but ya got what I got. Mike/Eagle

I have been contacted by the 258th unit out of Fort Polk to conduct an escort ride for the unit on Thursday the 2nd of November. I have a POC who I am contacting about staging areas and such. NOW! Fort Polk has not cleared folks to just ride onto base. TO ride onto the installation, you will need , Fort Polk registration, Motorcycle Safety Course card, full finger gloves, DOT helmet, Long Sleeves, good boots, protective eye wear or full face, and reflective vest or stripe. I will contact the unit Point of contact and get a rally point and turn off point. This is short notice and I know it, if folks can plan and make it , the unit would welcome the opportunity. Eagle

258th, I Salute you. I will be unable to make it down there in person (from Kansas), but as a fomer member of that unit, '87-'89, I am proud of the service you have provided.

Wyldhog, we have had a couple recent missions on Fort Leavenworth lately. Special arrangements were made that if we came on as a group, between our escort vehicles, we were exempt from the reflective vest. We still had to have helmets, eye protection, gloves and over ankle boots. But, we rolled on and off with no delays or problems. Maybe you could work something like that out with the Provost Marshall's Office at Polk.

UPDATE, I talked with the unit POC on this, and he has of this writing, not established a time of arrival, which gate, or exactly ( anything). I have sent a ping out to the Moral Support manager to see if he can assist on this as well.
THe Sgt. in charge stated via phonecon that he would have more information on Tuesday afternoon. Sorry ! for confusion. Eagle
