I will be there for the Illinois portion at least Sunday. Maybe Saturday too, but I'll have to let you know later on that. Looks like my first mission will be a happy one.

I rode in this morning and 'bout froze my fingertips off! Small price to pay. Randy48, who's a fairweather rider??? *laffing*
I'll be at the Nutter Field House at 10 this morning to stand that flag line! I sent out an email here at the Fort to all my contacts to see if we can get a few Soldiers and some Army Civilians out there as well!
Can't wait to see my Soldiers come home!!
Thank you to those Soldiers AND their families SO very much for your sacrifices! I'm so happy you'll be stepping off those busses and walking into the Field House.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I'm gonna hi-jack Joe's thread for a moment. You folks are doing a wonderful job welcoming the 5th home. We have learned that the 110th Engineers are due in right behind them - possibly Sunday 11/5. The Patriot Guard has been asked by our local National Guard here in Cape Girardeau to escort about 60 soldiers home FROM Ft. Leonard Wood on or about the 9th. The best way to do this might be to have a group escort from FLW to the St. Louis area, then our SE Missouri folk can lead them home.
I'll hear more this evening and we'll fire up our own thread.
It was great talking to you last night Joe. Give'm heck. |

Thank you so much for showing up and supporting the 5th Engineers on November 2nd. My sister Cora said that she shook the hands of everyone and thanked you for being there. Unfortunately, my husband and I was unable to make it down there to see Tom come home. I was just diagnoses with Iron overload disease and was having special test done. So, I am so sorry that I missed meeting everyone. So please accept my apology and Thank you for being there.

It was a grand day on good ole Ft Wood, we had a good showing and the troops and their families appreciated it. I believe the 110th is coming in with the remainder of the 5th or as part of them on Sun. Sat escort with be for the 50th Boat Div, another part of the 5th..We would be honored to escort the 110th part or all the way home..Does seem like a long way around to go back to St Louis and then south...

Sorry I missed it Joe, I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. They didn't take the chains off until just before I called.
Anya, I was only teasing the other night, I remember well you standing in the cold rain flag in hand in Stover and Versailles and a cold night ride two days before! |

Wordman3, welcome to the PGR. This is the information for the rides Saturday and Sunday:
Sat: Nov 4 and Sun Nov 5, 2006. Please stage at the west bound rest area just past Rolla. Staging time will be 10:30 am, due to troop arrival at Ft Wood scheduled for 1:00 pm. If they come early we can be prepared. Use the car parking on the west side of the rest area. We plan on a full escort to Nutter Field House on Ft Wood. See post about getting a visitors pass on Thurs or Fri..If you don't have a pass or a sticker to get on Ft Wood, you will have to end your ride at the front gate.

After the ones that want to exit at Allenton, the route is I 44 to St Roberts exit, the next place for you to get off easily and back on would be Gray Summit, Union, St Clair, etc..Sullivan is roughly 60 miles from St Louis..We are going to pick them up west of Rolla at the State Rest Area..Mainly do to road construction in and around Rolla, making it dangerous(in my opinion). You are welcome to ride as far as you want, and we appreciate your dedication to making this a homecoming these American Heroes will remember..

I'm going to go to FLW early on Saturday and get my base pass then come back to the Rolla rest area to join the rest of the escort to the base. Anyone from St. Louis want to join up, I'll be leaving the Quick Trip at I44 and 109 (Eureka exit) at 0700.
Ride Safe!
