UPDATED~~~01/NOV/06 1600 HRS CST

The time for the arrival of the 5th Eng in the welcome home missions for Thurs has been changed to 11:00 am with sitting up the flag line changed to 10:00 am..

Updated 31 Oct 06 @ 1258hrs cst

At is stands right now all times are still good. I spoke with Capt Smith at the 5th. He also said there was two flights scheduled for the weekend.

I also stopped at the front gate and spoke with S.O. Storm, about getting visitor passes. He spoke with Mr. North of Wackenhut Security, who said any rider wanting to escort the 5th onto Ft Wood on Sat and Sun would be required to have all the proper documents (safety course card, insurance, registration and driver lic)He also said we could go Thurs or Fri and get the pass so as to speed things up on Sat and Sun. Just mention Mr North when asking and you are with the PGR.

Don't forget your reflective belt or vest...

Itinerary Update

Tues Oct 31, 2006: Please assemble at Nutter Field House on Ft Leonard Wood at 1630 hrs(4:30 pm) to set up a flag line to welcome the 5th home. There will be no escort on to Ft Wood by the PGR..

Thurs. Nov 2, 2006: Please assemble at Nutter Field House on Ft Leonard Wood at 1230 hrs(12:30pm)to set up a flag line to welcome the 5th home. There will be no escort on to Ft Wood by the PGR.

Sat: Nov 4 and Sun Nov 5, 2006.  Please stage at  the west bound rest area just past Rolla. Staging time will be 10:30 am, due to troop arrival at Ft Wood scheduled for 1:00 pm. If they come early we can be prepared. Use the car parking on the west side of the rest area. We plan on a full escort to Nutter Field House on Ft Wood. See post about getting a visitors pass on Thurs or Fri..If you don't have a pass or a sticker to get on Ft Wood, you will have to end your ride at the front gate.

We need all the assistance we can get..Due to regulations pertaining to riding on Ft Wood, any escort on Sat and Sun will probably end at the Front Gate, unless you are qualified to ride on a military post. Contact PDDGM(Joe) or Randy48(Randy)for additional info. We have 33 large flags and will need enough people to stand the line..

To ride a motorcycle on Fort Leonard Wood you must have:

Motorcycle safety card (MSF, or equivilent), boots above the ankle, long pants, long sleeve shirt, reflective safety vest or belt (minimum of 72 squares inches), protective eyewear, DOT approved helmet, proof of insurance/registration, full finger gloves.

I have talked to the Military Police and the safety people and right now they will not cut us any slack on these requirements, even under military police escort.

All I see are posts about where and when to assemble at Fort Leonard Wood.

Is there going to be a flag line at Mid America?

If so, when and where? Since the Mid America airport is connected to SAFB, does anyone know exactly where they will land. On the Mid America side or the SAFB side? I was at Mid America a couple of weeks ago to see the WWII bombers and I know where to go. But, if their plane lands on the SAFB side, are we allowed on base and if so, which entrance would we take? Would they be expecting us at a particular gate if a flag line is planned for the welcome.

I know I have a lot of questions. I don’t want to be driving around looking and looking and end up missing the welcome.

May we live our lives to make them proud.

This is Frank Caruso, the other Road Captain from Southern Illinois assisting on the Illinois side of this ride. Randy and I have started planning the details. One consideration is for us to ride across the bridge into Missouri part way to the Fort. If so, we will announce very clearly, due to the helmet law in Missouri.

Randy is planning to visit Mid America tomorrow (Wednesday) to determine best rally point. I will be contacting Illinois State Police Motorcycle Officers to request escort on Illinois side of ride.

KarenSiddall.....you may want to contact Randy with your experience at Mid America...it may be very useful for him...

His PGR handle is signalman6869

Alaska Bobber....we sure will appreciate your riding with us on Saturday.

More details to come on Wednesday, November 1....probably in the p.m. time frame.

I live in St. Charles, MO so I'll ride from the airport and then hop off somewhere after we hit MO.

Do we know how many soldiers will be returning on Saturday?

As a “Heads Up” for the St. Louis area riders, we will be picking up the buses Saturday and Sunday on this side of the river and escort these Heroes out to the Allenton/Six Flags exit, I believe that is exit 261.  I will make every effort to have a staging time and location established and posted by this evening.  Let’s spread the word on this and get a good turnout.
