25OCT06 1830

WI: 04NOV06 Milwaukee Veteran’s Day Parade

The Mission:

Participate in the annual Milwaukee Veteran’s Day Parade.  This is a large, well attended annual event and very important to our vets.

Rain or shine, we will mount up and ride at the front of the parade along with other motorcycle groups and organizations.  The length is approximately 1.8 miles leaving from 4th and Kilbourn.  The parade will proceed east ending up at Veterans Park just north of the War Memorial on the shore of Lake Michigan. The Reviewing Stands will be on Lake Drive near the end of the parade.  We will gather at the end of the parade and cheer on those that follow.

PGR staging will commence at 0845 04NOV06. The riders meeting will be held at 0930, and we will depart for the Parade staging area immediately following the riders meeting.  As the temperature looks to be about 45F for the parade, you might consider warming up your bike prior to the meeting if you feel it is necessary.

BIKES ONLY will be allowed in the parade.  NO CARS of the PGR will participate.

PGR staging area is the open air parking lot for M&I Bank, located at 780 North Broadway.  It is directly across from the Milwaukee Athletic Club.  The lot is large enough for trailers and trucks, should you not want to ride your bike to the staging area.  M&I is aware there may be trailers left in the lot until early afternoon.  They only ask that we be out by 1500, and police the area.  They have been very gracious, and we must respect their wishes.

PGR will ride as a group Westbound on Kilbourn in double formation to the parade staging area.  We will depart at approximately 0945 for the 8 block trip to 4th and Kilbourn obeying traffic signals.  At 4th Street we will be directed to make a U turn onto Eastbound side of Kilbourn, where the actual parade staging will occur.

Bikes with flag mounts are preferred to lead the PGR group.  As this is a low speed event, if you do not have a permanent flag mount on your bike, a temporary mount should work fine unless there are high winds.  Cable ties, clear duct tape [Target], etc. could be used to secure your flag.  Please make it of good appearance, bring your own supplies and police your trash.

The parade staging will take place from 0900 to 1100.  The parade will start promptly at 1100.  No one that is not in the parade staging area by 1040 will be allowed in the parade.

There will be food, water and porta-potties in the parade staging area.

Please be aware other bike groups are expected to participate.  There may also be protesters. We will not be dealing with them, our only participation is to be in the parade.

The street closures prior to the parade are as follows:  At 0800 the staging area streets that will be closed are Kilbourn from 6th St to 3rd. 4th St. from Wells to State, and 3rd Street from State to Kilbourn. The cross streets to the parade close 20 minutes prior to the event.

There will be additional updates regarding freeway construction, the best approach route to the PGR staging area, etc.

Parade route is in the link below.

Let’s have a great turnout for this event, in honor of our vets, and do PGR Proud!

bbrandolino,

to be honest with you, turnout at the parade is looking to be pretty low as of now. I know some people from this area are going to the services for Sgt. Luke Zimmerman in Green Bay tomorrow, and I could not be prouder of them for doing so.

the weather is looking better. current forecast is 45 and cloudy, chance of light showers later in the afternoon.

I will be there for sure, flying the PGR flag. if you don't go to GB, hope you can make the parade.  the PGR staging and the departure for the parade will continue as described above.

I can't make the trip north due to family considerations, etc. but like everyone else, I'll be there in spirit.  I'm guessing that we'll need layers & leather   for tomorrow as the forecast mentions snow/rain possible in the AM.

Currently is is about 40F and cloudy but dry. If you are thinking about coming down but cannot decide, look at it this way:

My uncle was in the Battle of the Bulge. While he never talked about it, I suspect he was a lot colder then than we will be today.

Come on down if you can, even if to watch the parade rather thn ride. I understand this will be the last flyover for the 440th.

My cell is 414.550.2114 if you are lost. Hope to see you.

Just got home from a post parade lunch. We had about 12 bikes, representing ourselves well in a pre-parade group of about 120-150 bikes.

It was great seeing many new faces, and I know we will have some new members after today. The weather was not too bad, and most of us stayed to enjoy the fine parade that followed.

Thanks to all who came, and I look forward to seeing you at future events.

I was supprised at how many people have never heard of the PGR'S. I used the time I had meeting new people to tell them about us. There were some that said they wanted to join, I hope they do. I just want to thank all that attended the parade to Honor our Fighting Forces. Peace To All ------ace
