SHORT NOTICE - Lt. Tommy Hill, Firefighter, Decatur, AL - 26 Oct 2006 At 0300 Tuesday, 24-Oct-2006, Lt. Tommy Hill, a Decatur, AL firefighter died of a heart attack. Lt. Hill was not feeling well while on duty and went home to rest. At 0300 another station receive dthe call and responded.
We have been requested to attend the services. Len (2bull) will be the primary captain on this mission and will be talking to the staging contact so he can finalize the details.
But in order to get as much notice on this mission as possible, the preliminary details are as follows:
Lt. Hill's body and family will arrive at the church; Trinity Baptist in Trinity, AL at 1000 hours. We will need to be there earlier so that we are ready at attention with flags when they arrive. Lt. Hill will lie in state for one hour, with the funeral beginning at 1100 hours. After the funeral services, we will again stand at attention with flags as the family exits the church and enters their cars. We have been requested to have motorcycles following the fire engines in the procession. Depending on the number of members we have present, some of us will depart earlier to go to the cemetery where there we will be ready for the procession to arrive.
Please do everything possible to attend. Lt. Hill loved to ride his motorcycle and is a friend of at least one of our members in the area and while it will mean the world to this member, the family needs to know that the regular community members appreciate the sacrifice it takes to be standing at the ready in our local communities to protect us.
Respect,
Chappy

Len had to go to work and asked me to post something.
The group from Huntsville got started a little before 9, but had to run by Len's fire station because he couldn't find a tie at the house. Never fear, when we pull out, the GPS tells me we'll pull into the church right at 9:30. Down the road we go. A couple miles down the interstate, our fearless captain's fuel light comes on. Knew he was forgetting something. We're still okay because the family will not be at the church until 10 and we'll be there at 9:35. Once we get to Highway 24 we come up on a procession of police, fire, and emergency vehicles. We panic. Turns out though that they were on their way to get the family and when they turned we booked it to the church where Tommy, Marco, Jerry, Jim, and Wimpy Toes were there and ready. Len, Gary, and Chappy join them and we snap to attention for the family to enter.
Lt. Hill lay in state for an hour and the funeral began at 11. Afterwards, Patriot Guard were again at attention for their exit. We fell into the procession just ahead of the last Rescue truck.
Thank you again to everyone who was able to participate today. Stand proud.
On a personal note, to watch the family of fire fighters and law enforcement take care of their own is something to behold. Thanks to everyone in that family for standing watch for us, here on our soil.
Respect.
