23 Oct 2006 2:34 PM Alert
I am posting the information below at the request of Amex and Redthreat600RR:

Please join us in Savannah, GA on Saturday, November 11, 2006 in honor of Veteran's Day.  It is quite an honor for the Patriot Guard Riders to be invited to participate in this year's parade.  Savannah is the home of the Third Infantry Division.  They are expected to be deployed again in December.

Veterans, this is a day of honor for you.  Please turn out if you can so you can be honored appropriately.  Veterans of Vietnam, you didn't get a welcome home parade.  This could be great way for you to get the welcome home you so very much deserve.

Staging information will be posted as soon as available.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Amex and Redthreat 600RR

A person is not judged a Hero by the way he died-rather by the way he lived.

The price of freedom is visible at any Veteran's Hospital.

If you want to salute, or cover your heart with your hand, or just stand silently holding the flag, it's your choice. The only thing I require is that you do it in a respectful manner. I am a combat veteran. I served my country. I led young men and boys face to face in combat with their enemy. I also am a disabled veteran. War related. I have certainly earned the right to salute in a respectful manner but my salute is no more important than any nonveteran standing in our flag line. My love for America and my respect for our fallen warriors is no more or no less important than anyone else that comes to our PGR mission. I have fought for my country and I will continue to fight for the rights of every person that stands in our flag line.

Tom, I will have a room for you if you don't already have on. I will be leaving for Savannah on Friday. If anyone else is planning on doing the same and already has a motel / hotel, let me know so we can all stay together. Give me a hotel / motel name and contact phone number. Thanks

I'm going to try to get a special room rate somewhere close to our staging area. I'll know if it's a go or no-go by Monday. Anybody got a chain they like? One they won't stay at?

I have a block of six rooms reserved at $59.99. The regular rate is $79.99
They are at the Quality Inn, 3 Gateway Blvd South, Savannah 31419

Three are smoking, three are non-smoking, all are 2 double beds.

The motel is right at exit 94 (Hwy 204) off I-95. Same exit as Hooters and the Harley Shop.

Sound good or should I keep looking for a better deal?

If more people start to indicate they need a room than these six will accomodate, I'll get more.

My brother will ride with us. My great-nephew will be in the parade marching with the JrROTC from Effingham County. My best friend has just returned from Iraq where she was for a year with DOD as civil service. Her home is in FL, but I have told her she MUST join PGR and ride with us in Savannah. The guys will fall in love with her. They always do. She is a terific lady and will add much to our group. When she called me last night she was in tears. She had not even been home yet and was already having problems because she felt guilty for leaving her friends in country. I told her it would take time for her to adjust to being in the world again. I know this bunch of great people will help her.

As a matter of fact, I do!

The parade will start at the intersection of Gwinnett and Abercorn and travel north on Abercorn to Liberty, west on Liberty to Montgomery, north on Montgomery to Broughton, and east on Broughton to East Broad St. The reviewing stand will be at Bull and Broughton St.

The parade is supposed to start moving at 10:15

It's been my experience that any place along the route will be okay. The whole route will be lined with people but not like 8 or 10 deep like it is for St Paddy's Day in places.

Very Important!!!!

Bring proof of insurance! Because of an incident that happened at a parade in Savannah a couple of years ago, the committee is not willing to overlook this. You will be asked to leave the staging area if you do not have proof of insurance.

We have our spot in the line-up and I think you're going to be really happy with this!!! We are way up front. This makes it even more important to bring flags. We want a LOT of red, white and blue.

We will have a pretty significant ride from staging to line-up, and it won't necessarily be a slow roll, so you might want to wait until we are lined up to unfurl/attach flags. We will have plenty of time after we are in place before the parade starts to roll.

Looks like the weather is going to cooperate with us Saturday, too. High of 78, Low of 56, Partly Cloudy (so far.)

Is it possible to visit River Street and NOT stop in Wet Willie's? One of life's mysteries...we may never know. Like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie-pop

Let me put it this way; I don't remember leaving River Street after visiting Wet Willie's. My cousin's son owns the peti cab that runs around town and we usually find him and get him to haul us around. He doesn't like going to River Street because of the stones on the street down there. Maybe I'd better stick with baby sitting duty. Naw, not after I haven't seen my best friend in a year. We have to celebrate don't we? And we have to celebrate Robert's birthday don't we?

Bill,

With the noice that the Jacksonville Florida mission is now confermed, I have decided to stand down from the Savannah parade and go to Florida instead. I feel that is where I belong. I know you understand. I wish all who attend the Savannah and Atlanta parades, a sunny day, a safe ride, and most importantly a Great Veterans Day.

Larry,
As I said in another thread, I COMPLETELY understand. I am so torn right now. An honor mission for an American Hero or an event to honor our heroes - past and present - and raise awareness for our organization and our cause. My heart is very heavy right now.

Ride safe, Brother.
