Update for Sgt. Jones’ funeral in Kokomo, In. Updated 3/1/2006
Due to the possibility of an unusually large attendance to honor Sgt. Jones, there have been a few changes. The viewing will still be Sunday from 1400hrs. – 1800hrs.at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home located at 1315 W. Lincoln.
The Staging Area has changed for the funeral on Monday. Mar. 6th. It will now be at the Kokomo High School located just ½ mile west of the Funeral Home on W. Lincoln. (Directions below)
Because of the added distance between the staging area and the Church where the funeral will be (different from above), we’re asking everyone to be at the staging area NO LATER THAN 0800 hrs. I personally will be there at 0730 hrs. There will be a sign-in and a brief rider’s meeting at 0830, then proceed on to the church with a Police Escort. Further details will be brought up at the rider’s meeting.
Directions:
If you’re coming in from the south on US31, turn left (west) at the light just south of the Chrysler Plant (mile marker 160). This is Lincoln Rd., and there are signs on US31 indicating which way to turn for Kokomo High School. Stay on Lincoln Rd. exactly 2.5 miles. The school is on the right (south) side and we will stage behind the school.
If you’re coming in from the north on US31, go just past the Chrysler Plant and turn right at the light (Lincoln Rd.) and proceed exactly 2.5 miles (see above).
All other information will be provided at the rider’s meeting.
Please remember that we are invited guests and our ONLY mission is to honor and show respect for this Fallen Soldier, his family, and the community for their great sacrifice! Let’s all stand tall and proud as we salute the Hero!

Family Says Indiana Soldier Killed In Iraq

KOKOMO, Ind. -- A 21-year-old soldier from Kokomo was killed in Iraq, his family said Thursday.
The family of Sgt. Rickey Jones, a 101st Airborne Division soldier, said they were notified Wednesday evening about his death.
Four soldiers from the 101st, based in Fort Campbell, Ky., were killed Wednesday when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said. However, Fort Campbell spokeswoman Cathy Gramling would not confirm whether Jones was one of those soldiers.
Ronnie Jones, the soldier's grandfather, said his grandson was a loving person and the pride of his family. He said the family received few details of the soldier's death.
"So far we ain't found out too much, period. All we know is that four of them were in a humvee and they got killed over there," Jones said through tears.
"He was just one hell of a good soldier."
The four 101st soldiers assigned to the division's 1st Brigade Combat Team were killed on patrol Wednesday near Hawijah, 150 miles north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The names of the victims were withheld pending notification of their families.
Jones, a 2002 graduate of Kokomo High School, is survived by his mother Tenia Rogers and grandparents Ronnie and Margaret Jones, all of Kokomo.
The sprawling Army post straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
Including the four, there have been 128 soldiers from Fort Campbell killed in the Iraq war. Including Jones, since February 2003, 54 Indiana military personnel have died after being sent to the Mideast for the war in Iraq.
