My sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Police Officer Briggs. May your memories offer you comfort during these times. Thank you for your service Officer Briggs - may you rest in peace.

Current plan is to gather at Naults Cycle (On the West Side of the River) and be kickstands up from the Naults Parking lot at 0900. We will cross the Merrimack at Granite Street and take a right on Elm to the parking site.

This put us in and out of town while interfering with traffic at a minimum. This is the best way to show the community that we care and not add to the planning and coordination that the Manchester Police Department already has to deal with.  Putting 150 Bikes into the already lengthy Funeral Procession will add to the work load of the Police Department.

I realize that Quinn said we didn't want to add to the planning and coordination that the Manchester Police Department is dealing with.  However, is someone from PGR in contact with the Manchester PD?  Why I ask is that WMUR Channel 9 News has been broadcasting for a couple days now that the Granite Street bridge will close down to traffic at 8:45 AM, as well as traffic on Elm St.  Do we have special permission to cross over at 9:00?

The following was taken from  the website at WMUR that lists the road closures:
http://www.wmur.com/news/10114871/detail.html

Saturday Closures

Elm Street from Queen City Avenue to the dead end of North Elm Street will be closed at 8:45 a.m.

The Queen City Bridge will be the only access for people traveling east and west over the Merrimack River.

Eastbound traffic will be open on Granite Street only to those who are going to the Verizon Wireless Arena for the circus; however, there will be an interruption of traffic flow when the funeral procession goes by.

Parking will be at a minimum for anyone going to the circus. It is suggested that you park anywhere east of Elm Street. All parking restrictions, time zones and meters will be suspended.

Any meter with a bag on it is designated as a no parking zone for the purpose of the procession.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Folks,
We are still working local traffic conditions with PD. Please plan on the possibility of Kickstands up at 0845 or even 0830. Elm Street and the Granite Street Bridge will be closed by 0900. PD will be letting us through but may request we leave earlier than our original planned 0900. We will spend probably a solid hour standing on the sidewalk waiting the horse drawn procession. Dress Appropriate.

Officer Briggs,

Thank you for your willingness to defend the community in which you lived. Your dedication will long be remembered in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved you. Your untimely death brings much sorrow and sadness to the hearts and lives of your family, friends, law enforcement brothers and sisters, each and every member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and all who truly appreciate their freedom which we all enjoy under the protection of police officers such as you. Your wife and sons have much to be proud of in the man they knew as husband and father. We are proud of your service and dedication in that which you believed in and fought for. Your watch is complete. You are truly an American hero and the community in which you lived is a safer place because of your commitment to freedom. We will now proudly stand for you with honor, dignity, and respect. We pray that you will now rest peacefully in the arms of God. May He provide peace, comfort, and understanding to each life you touched.

Other than special missions, this was my first mission.  I could not have been more welcomed by all from PGR.  The respect given the someone who you may never have meet was amazing.  I wish had had known about PGR when we buried my father in Arlington not to long ago.

I just want to express my thanks, my gratitude and my support for what you did yesterday to make the procession/memorial for my friend and colleague Michael Briggs so much better.  Each of you have a huge heart and you helped comfort (in ways I never thought possible) the friends and family of this brave hero.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  God bless you and your families.

The wind blows cold
Winter sun warms nothing
Hot coffee will never warm the hands enough
Wind freezes the words in the air

The faint rumble is first heard
as the iron horses of today pass
192 of them, two by two
Upfront as pathfinders

Then the snort of horses
One with it owner's boots backwards
lead by a single man
Followed by an honor guard

The slap of leather on asphalt
A glint from polished brass
The clap of hooves on stone
Murmurs of voices

Tears stream down
Behind the mirrored glasses
Voices choke up in remembrance
At the loss of an officer and marine

We all will go on
And he will be remembered
His ethics and values will be taught
To the others left behind

We ride with respect,
To be the silent voice
For the families to see
They are never alone

We share in their loss
We know the pain
And stand with them
Always vigilant

Officer Briggs, you can rest
You've done your job
Others can pick up the banner
That you carried for us to see.

Your family is now our family
Your son's will be proud
They will temper the sadness
with the love of who you are.

The protection of the rights of all depend on a strong military. Thank a soldier today.
