19 Oct 2006 6:55 AM Alert

Folks,

Many of you have asked if the PGR will ride in memory of this fine young man who was so callously gunned down in the line of duty.

On Monday morning this 35 year old Police Officer and father of two young boys was 15 minutes from the end of his shift on Bicycle Patrol when he took a call to handle a domestic incident.  Upon arrival at the scene an individual was noticed to be running from the scene. Officer Briggs Identified himself and ordered him to stop. The suspect turned and fired a gun at Officer Briggs, the round stiking him in the head.  On Tuesday  he died from his injuries.

Here is the plan.

We will assemble in mass on the southern end of Elm Street in an area yet to be determined.  We will assemble, rear tires to the curb, at attention (with flags) when the funeral procession passes by.

Current plan is to gather at Naults Cycle (On the West Side of the River) and be kickstands up from the Naults Parking lot at 0900. We will cross the Merrimack at Granite Street and take a right on Elm to the parking site.  Upon passing of the Funeral Procession we will exit down Elm southerly ending up on Brown Ave and out Rt. 101/293.

This put us in and out of town while interfering with traffic at a minimum. This is the best way to show the community that we care and not add to the planning and coordination that the Manchester Police Department already has to deal with.  Putting 150 Bikes into the already lengthy Funeral Procession will add to the work load of the Police Department.

PLEASE KNOW that this is all subject to change at the wishes of the family or the Manchester Police Department. Check back for updates.

Quinn

My heart aches for the family and friends of this fine young policeman. His wife and 2 young boys lost him too soon. I admire him and all of the policemen who put their lives on the line to protect us. I hope the family knows that in our eyes, he is a true American hero and that he will be in our thoughts and prayers. I will be honored to attend this mission to show my respect for Officer Michael Briggs. May God bless him and his family.

This mission is going to be a lil different from most of the missions that we do. The way that it is different is in the fact that we will not be a part of the funeral procession. Quinn and Larry have planned this so that we will be lining Elm St for the procession to pass thru before reaching the Fisher Cat's Stadium where the ceremony is going to be. The mission will look something like this: Meet at Naults Honda in Manchester at 0800 Kickstands up at 0845 We will assemble in mass on the southern end of Elm Street in an area yet to be determined. We will assemble, rear tires to the curb, at attention (with flags) when the funeral procession passes by. Upon passing of the Funeral Procession we will exit down Elm southerly ending up on Queen City Ave and out Rt. 101/293. As always this is Subject to Change please check back prior to leaving
