I am planning on this mission... Not sure if I will bike or cage yet - depends on weather. Coming from Beaverton, and would like to invite any westside folks to meet at Paradise HD.
The STAGE at Flying J is 0930 so we should MEET at Paradise HD by 0830 with KSU at 0850
(mapquest says its 27 miles and 38 minutes)
I am happy to RC this leg, unles someone else would like to do so. |

| All,
I show a Flying J truck stop at 400 NW Frontage Rd. in Troutdale OR which is 8 miles east of the I-205/I-84 intersection. Is that the one we are talking about? A previous email stated that is was prior to getting on I-84 so I would like a little clarification. |

I'll be coming from Kettle Falls, WA. Is there a staging area in the The Dalles, and what time? The weather is supposed to be nasty up here, so I'll bring my bike in a trailer, but I'll be there.

I will be staging at the Sherri's Restaurant in Redmond @ 0930 hrs, KSU 1000 hrs, we will pick up riders in Madras at Les Schwab parking lot @ 1030 hrs. I will be in a cage and have room for 2-3 riders. Depending on road conditions and arrival time I'll try to meet with the main group on I-84 before The Dalles so we can ride in together.

TO EVERYONE OF YOU THAT WILL BE JOINING US AT TROUTDALE SUNDAY MORNING, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU GET OFF I-84 IN TROUTDALE. WE ARE NOT SURE WHERE WE WILL RALLY UP AT BUT WE WILL BE IN PLAIN VIEW FROM THE FRONTAGE ROAD. IT COULD BE EITHER T/A OR CULPEPPERS WESTERN STORE. THEY BOTH HAVE BIG PARKING LOTS AND I BELEIVE THAT THEY ARE NEXT DOOR TO EACH OTHER. THERE IS GAS AND FOOD VERY CLOSE. SEE YOU ALL SUNDAY AM. I just took a quick run down to check things out - we'll be using the T/A lot which butts up to the east side of McDonalds. I should be there in my cage with flags a flyin' but may make a fast run to Cascade Locks to check road conditions if the weather's still as bad as its been (parts of I-84) are pretty rutted between Troutdale and Cascade Locks).
Gas - there's a Chevron station immediately after coming off the freeway (eastbound) and T/A sells Arco. Flying J is down the road, just before getting back on I-84 but you'll have to loop back around to get to T/A after fueling up. |

Using Mapquest, about the best place for all to form up might be the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center; it looks like those of us coming from the west would take exit 82 and double back across the freeway - maybe a 1/2 mile or so; from there, were just under 3 miles to the school. Coming from the south (Hwy 197?), puts you I-84 west at exit 87 and you'd have to head west and take exit 82 as well. Est. time from the center to the HS is 7 min.

I have posted the following in the Oregon Forums area as well as here. For those of us who will be attending Staff Sergeant Paul, The Dalles Mission ,and also want to obtain the Veterans of Oregon Honorable Service Medal. Email to me is as follows as well as comments from me:
Some of us in the forum has been trying to fit in getting the Veterans of Oregon Honorable Service Medal and also attend Staff Sergeant Robert Paul memorial in The Dalles. I emailed and called John Neuman who is the Committee Co-Chairman of the I-205 Convoy. His email to me is as follows:
Chuck,
I will be at the Fairgrounds 24hrs as of 10am Saturday until after the convoy is over Sunday. Yes I can issue medals but the congressional representatives will not be there until after 10am on Sunday. I can present them but I am just a vet and committee chair. To issue the medals, we need proof of honorable service IE: We need one of any of the following acceptable verifications:
1) Valid Military ID card for those currently still serving, a Valid Military ID card for retirees or 100% Disabled Veterans
2) A valid VA Hospital/Medical Care photo ID card
3) A copy of a DD214 showing honorable discharge
4) We will accept a signed affidavit from the veteran stating they have an honorable discharge and the medal is being issued with the knowledge that at any time the contrary is disclosed - the medal and # issued will be revoked.
My cell line is (503) 936-5997
John is willing to block off some time Saturday at 4:00 PM (1600 hours) to present the medal to those who will be traveling to The Dalles. John would like to know about how many will be present. We will still need to bring our proof as Veteran status. He would like to have a count on how many want to pick up their medal but I don't really know how to let him know. H wants to limit the number of medals to those who will be involved in The Dalles Mission only.
Chuck Jeffcoat If people would like you can email me personally so I can get an idea of how many will want to pick up their medal on Saturday 1600 hrs at the Clark County Fairgrounds. Email maggi_chuck@hotmail.com

| Hey, Chuck, thanks for taking care of this for us! I would like to pick up the medal tomorrow (Saturday) but wouldn't be able to make it over there until around 1800. He said he'd be there from 1000 on; if possible, I would like to stop by early or after 1800. Please let me know if that is okay. |
