Although many of you will be in Nashville for the Anniversary of the Guard.. I'd appreciate a few Memphis area PGR people to remain in Bartlett to assist a Mother's wish on Veteran's Day.
Lance Corporal Tim Creager was killed in the Anbar Provence on July 1, 2004 (unfortunately before the PGR was formed). Yesterday after the funeral of Captain Secher of Germantown, I was approached by the Corporal Creager's mother.
It is her wish that her son be remembered by a Scholorship fund at Bacone College in Memphis.. and to fund the scholorship fund, a LCpl Tim Creager Memoiral 5K run/walk. She asked for us to lead the 5Krun.
We need a few bikes to run in front of the participants, and to help in the running of the event. Please contact me at MaddogMorgan2@aol.com so I can keep you informed and keep you in the loop.
I need at least 4 other bikes to assist in the leading, and I don't know how many other people are needed in the background. I'm determined to help Mrs Creager's wish come true as soon as possible.
Thanks for your attention, |

Mad Dog, We will keep an eye on the posts for more information but I do believe we will be able to make this run. So that will be 3 extra sets of hands Mrs. Creager can use as she deams necessary. Keep us posted! |

My name is Don. I am the race director for the LCpl Tim Creager 5k on Veteran's Day. Thanks for all your help and support. You can find more info at www.timcreager5k.com. Its a short 3 mile course but we have 1 major road to cross 2 times. After the race and awards the city of Bartlett will be unvieling its new Veteran's Memorial. All this happens in Freeman Park. Pray for great weather and a great turnout. All proceeds go the LCpl Tim Creager Scholarship for native american indians in Chrsitian studies or nursing. His mother is a VA nurse in Memphis. Agains Thanks |

Please take the below information and print it off as a flyer announcement and distribute where you can!
PATRIOT GUARD RIDER SPECIAL MISSION, 11 NOV 2006
Help Your Memphis Ride Captain Fulfill a Mother’s Wish.
While at the services for Captain Secher last Sunday, I was approached my Mrs Creager; the mother of Lance Corporal Tim Creager, (Killed 01 July 2004 in Al-Anbar Provence in Iraq) and we talked.
She made a request that members of the Patriot Guard lead the 5k run in Bartlett TN on Veteran’s Day. The purpose of this run is to establish a Scholarship in her son’s name at Bacone College.
Now because the Guard had not been established in 2004, we could not be there for her during the time of her son’s funeral.. BUT WE CAN BE THERE FOR HER NOW.
I ask not for any money, but for as many PGR members as possible, forgo your veteran’s day plans and assist me in making this scholarship a reality. $100,000 needs to be raised in order to properly establish this fund, Let’s give some time, effort, and elbow grease, I’ll be right there beside you.
I need 5 or more riders with me to lead the pack, other riders to block intersections, and still more to do the myriad of tasks it will take for this to be done. You don't need a bike, just a flag and a willingness to help. The 5K run will happen on Veteran’s Day, November 11th, and will complete with an unveiling of a memorial dedicated to Tim Creager at Freeman Park in Bartlett TN at noon.
For any details you may need, look at the website www.timcreager5k.racesonline.com
Volunteers please E-Mail me at MaddogMorgan2@aol.com and I'll keep you informed of all details.
Your PGR Brother,
Maddog |

Maddog,
As it stands for now, you can count me in to be one of your five. It will be an honor to make this ride on Veterans Day to honor all of these great soldiers. |

I went to a volunteer meeting last night.
The organizer is expecting 200 runners and hoping for 400.
I need 30 volunteers and would like for 50 to be there.
I'm arranging for a special parking spot just for us. TV and newspapers are going to be there.
We, along with Bartlett Police, will be blocking intersections, and leading the runners. (we may get help from the Shelby County Sheriff)
In addition, I need two of the biggest, meanest looking bikers around to assist Corporal Creager's Mother. There's no way that she's going to miss this event, but she's got some worries. While this event is to honor Tim's memory.. She is expecting to be interviewed by several agencies. She wants this event to be about Tim, not some soapbox for any political views or to have the interview turned into some pulpit for anything else. She'd like to have a couple of us "mean looking biker dudes" by her side so she can walk away from an interview that's doing that. I think that's almost the same mission a lot of us signed up for "PROTECTING THE FAMILY".
I believe that this event will take 6 hours (from 7:30 in the Morning to about 12:30 or so in the Afternoon), We'll have at least one and a half hours (10 am-11:30) before the Veteran's Memorial Unveiling (at noon) for everyone to get something to eat (several good resterants very close). We'll stage at a Cracker Barrell or something so everyone can have a good breakfast first. |

Okay.. I went to Last Night's Volunteer Meeting and everything went well.
We'll have three riders leading the race (5 if we get enough volunteers), I'll lead, along with two others.
Most of us wll be needed to block traffic from Bartlett Boulevard (main street) to keep them from disrupting or hitting the runners. The race will be held on mostly residential streets south of Freeman Park in Bartlett. We'll have Young Church Volunteers blocking all the "Dead End" Streets, but they need us to block off the busy ones.
We'll all stage first at the Cracker Barrell (of exit 20 on I-40 in Lakeland). We need to show up around 0600 (when it opens). We'll all have a good breakfast and have our kickstands up at 7:15 to go to Bartlett.
We'll first meet at one of the "Cul-de-Sacs" of the park. We'll be briefed, get our assigned positions, and assist in preparations: Getting cones set up and such. at around 8:30 we'll all take our assigned positions for the race which is set to start at 0900.
The race is only 5K and should be over within an hour. (we'll have to do some cleanup, but it should be quick). After the race, everyone is free to go shopping or have an early lunch (many good restrants nearby.. even a Starbucks) and be back at 11:45 to help unviel the Veteran's Memorial at the Park (Tim Creager's Name is on it). After the unveiling, I'm hoping to make a presentation to Ms. Creager, but I'll keep details on that a secret for now. I'd really like for PGR to stay with me till then.
As I said before, this is a Volunteer Mission.. The PGR Approves of this mission, but the UGs are not comming and we won't be needed to protect the family like so many other times.. Your participation on this mission means a lot of Native American Kids will be able to attend college that they probably couldn't have afforded otherwise. I know that a lot of us would rather ride in a Veteran's Day Parade.. But I am not dissappointing Ms. Creager. I've gotten E-mails from about a dozen people saying they're comming (Thanks a Lot) and could use all the help I can get.

Mission Completed..
I'd like to thank everyone who came out to help.. especially the people from Chattanooga. That's really going the extra mile folks. The PGR presence was most appreciated by everyone.
Preliminary figures had over 500 racers raising over $20,000 dollars for the Lance Corporal Timothy R. Creager Memorial Scholarship.. That's puts his mother well on her way to raising the $100,000 needed to establish it. Other events are in the works, and if I hear about them, I'll let you know. Another 5K will be held next year, and a Karate tournament is planned as well.
As to the race, I'd like to thank Mr and Mrs Jenkinson for assisting in the lead riding. I think I speak for everyone on the lead pack as saying that the winning runner was impressive. (managing to run the entire 5 K in less than 17 minutes... I want that boy tested for freebasing gatorade or something. There wasn't anyone within 400 yard of him and he darn near passed us on our bikes at the end.
A final thank you to the Flag Shop on Kirby Whitten Road in Memphis. Because of the PGR store being Off-line, I wasn't able to get a plaque for his mother. But the flag store let me have a presentation flag case (normally $85.00) for just $40.00. We folded the two flags we flew to lead the race: Ole Glory and the flag of the United States Marine Corps; folded them properly, affixed one of my "Mission Completed" to the USMC flag, and presented it to her.. she was most touched.
A final thank you for all who helped... Hope to ride with you again soon. And oh yes.. My new rear tire is in today, I'll have it replaced toot suite. |
