Did not get home til late. With the exit problems we still were able to make the family happy with our presence. Did anything come out of the News 8 coverage.

It was an honor to participate in the escort home for Lt Carver. I had a long chat with his grandfather before we left the airport. They have a strong family and I'm sure they will pull through these tough times.

The ride down 635 and the transition over to 75 was sure a challenge but we made it. Thanks to all the escort vehicles for making it a safe trip.

Both channels 5 and 8 had about 10 seconds of video coverage that I have seen. Seems like that white chopper followed us for a long time along 75 towards MckInney.

Never Forget!!

Seems to me, that a Hero's homecoming requires more than 10 seconds of air time. But, then again, they (Channel8) did have to do a piece on "How much to tip". That was definitely important in the total scheme of life!  OK.....I digress

Thank you David, and ER for leading the escort. I was loading trucks for our High School Band and could not make this part of our mission.

Thank you to all who rode yesterday, I know how challenging an escort can be at that time of day.

See you tomorrow evening, and/or Monday morning.

Ride Safe,

In regards to our staging location, Mapquest shows that address to be WEST of 75, not East. Is this correct? Anyone? Virginia Pkwy seems to be west, Virginia Ave....East.  Clarification, please!

It was with great honor that I was able to particpate in my first mission yesterday. The turn out was more than I expected and to have one of the family members thank ME for being there made for a blurry ride along 635.

Regrettably, I will not be able to attend Sunday or Monday's service but shall be standing by as needed for future missions.

Thanks for allowing me to participate

LT Craver was a classmate of mine at Officer Candidate School in summer 2005.   He was mentor, role-model, patriot and friend.   The U.S. Army lost one of it's greatest Soldiers when Johnny was killed.  Thank-you LT Craver for your service to this nation,  you will not be forgotten!

From the Bayonett:

Army loses another great Soldier

Bridgett Siter
Bayonet staff

Bayonet readers will remember Johnny Craver as a competitor in last year's Best Ranger Competition. He and his teammate, (then) Staff Sgt. Travis May, didn't make it to the finish line after a mishap on the spotjump.

Craver was disappointed of course, but he didn't let it get him down. The Texas native, who likened the gruesome Prusik climb to "a man going through childbirth," never, ever lost his sense of humor.

"He was very serious about everything he did, especially about being a Ranger and training Rangers, but he never lost his sense of humor," said May, now a sergeant first class and a Ranger instructor at the 4th Ranger Training Battalion. "He didn't stress over too much. He knew what was important."

What was important to 2nd Lt. Craver, 37, who was killed last week in Iraq when an IED exploded next to his Bradley, was his wife, Natalie, and his children, Savannah, 12, Caelen, 8, and Emma, 3.

He loved the outdoors, May said, and particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son. That was what mattered to Craver.

That, and being the best Soldier he could be. For Craver, that meant attending OCS and getting a chance to lead his platoon in combat. Craver, who volunteered for the combat assignment, had been in Iraq since midsummer.

He was expected home by Christmas.

"He was so motivated," May said. "He was anxious to take a platoon, anxious to lead, excited to go to combat. He was a great leader. The Army's lost a great Soldier."

Command Sgt. Maj. Doug Greenway, the former Ranger Training Brigade command sergeant major, knew Craver as an RI at the 4th Ranger Training Battalion.

"He was one of the best Rangers to walk the earth," Greenway said earlier this week in an e-mail he sent with a news account of Craver's death.

Craver, who was serving with the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, out of Fort Hood, Texas, insisted he wasn't a hero, his mother told a Denton, Texas, reporter.

"I'd call him a hero, and he'd say, 'I'm no hero. I'm just doing my job,'" she said. "But he was a hero. I know Johnny died doing what he wanted to do."

Well channel 8's 10 secs doubled channel 4's time. I wouldn't expect any more from our media, the important thing, we were there for the family. It was nice a couple of times when someone in traffic gave a thumbs up or a peace sign, also the fine couple standing on the hill coming into Mckinney with the US and Texas flag. For you new folks, it does NOT get any easier. This morning I started remembering the mother, the widow and the children I saw yesterday, I lost it.
I have to say, it's hard, but well worth it!!!!!!!! IT IS the right thing to do. God bless our troops, their families and all of my PGR brothers and sisters.

Home and safe. Once again the Patriot Guard Riders stood "Tall and Silent" - this time for over three hours straight! I can't imagine being more proud of being a part of something so wonderful. Thank you to all who attended and to the Craver family for allowing us to honor their son today.

How few there are who posses the gift to strike in us a chord we knew existed but so seldom took the time to hear its note. 2nd Lt. Johnny K.Craver, You have given the ultimate sacrifice anyone can give to their country. You are in Gods tender loving hands now. Even though you and I never met, my eyes are filled with the emotion of loss and sorrow. I hope your family gets a chance to read this little note and knows, there are some who truly care.
As a mournful nation places their hand over their hearts, we pledge allegiance to our flag you have not given your life in vain.
2nd Lt. Johnny K.Craver, I hear you ask the rest of us to carry on for you, I here you ask one thing of us as you rise into the heavens, only one simple thing, you ask in return.
That We Never wake as a country to find all you have believed in and sacrificed your life for and rested upon as your unwavering faith and honor in your nation, forever vanished like a vision vanished into the night.
IN YOUR HONOR.....We Will Never Give Up, We Will Never Give In, We will carry on, never forgetting the Integrity, Honor and Sacrifice you have given to your country.

This I Swear To You. AMEN.

The Tramp, The Lady in Red and I were honored to be a part of the celebration of Lt. Craver's life.  Never having personally met this hero, we can only surmise what type of man he was.  The dignity shown by his family and friends spoke of the caliber of this hero.  Far better is the world for your contribution sir.  Far better is heaven with your presence. Thank you for allowing us to show you a small token of the honor and respect we hold for you.  Our prayers are with your family and loved ones now during this separation.  "Go rest high upon that mountain, son you work on earth is done.  Go to heaven a'shoutin' praise for the Father and the Son."

No words convey the flavor of a mission, especially this one. I had thought that I had attended too many when I could travel the procession route with dry eyes, then those darn towns folk pull to the side of the road for our fallen hero, step from their vehicles and show their respect with their hands on their heart, or the old vet with a sharp salute. My jaded heart melted. Always good to see old friends and meet new faces. Hope we all ride together again someday under different circumstances. A finer bunch of folks, I have never found. Thank you for the honor.
