Mission Report: Posted for Dan Forth
MISSION COMPLETE: Chief Warrant Officer Scott W. Dyer, 38, of Cocoa Beach, FL
Today there was one more reminder of the extent of the sacrifice our soldiers are making to defend our freedom. Chief Warrant Officer Scott W. Dyer, 38, of Cocoa Beach, FL was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. It's worth noting that the number of folks attending Scott's interrment increased even on the morning of the service. Obviously this man touched many lives in ways we can only guess. The local newpaper writings recount a man who lived an outstanding life. Something for us all to think about.
Even in the large crowd of family and friends we found a gentle reminder of what we're about, of what Scott must have been like. One of the mourners had a look of exasperation as she vainly tried to start her car while the procession passed by. The Patriot Guard stopped as a group to assist. Fortunately the we were able to provide a quick solution that allowed the famliy member to get to the graveside in time.
Maybe that can give us pause. Even the smallest gesture we make can assist our neighbor. We're not all required to make the ultimate sacrifce that Scott W. Dyer was called to make. But we can let his actions and the actions of those brave soldiers lead us to make our lives and our world a better place. We cannot not let their sacrifice go unheeded. With the upcoming Veterans' Day make the extra effort to acknowledge our soldiers. Let them know, in every way, that we care. |
