This was an overnight mission for us due to the early start time. It was a clear & crisp fall afternoon which made for great riding. Upon arrival in Tallahassee we made a short pit stop at which time "koolness" purchased a Black Leather Bra. After checking in to our motel & while waiting for dinner plans with the new Tallahasse Ride Captain "havananole" Mike Donohoe; Koolness decided to try his new bra on for fit & appearance. Well that's another story & koolness will have to fill you in with the details. We met Mike & his wife Connie for dinner. We discussed the upcoming mission & got aquainted with each other. They are great people & are an asset to the PGR. Mission morning we arrived early & Mike & Connie were already there. We assisted with the registration & bike inspections. A total of 83 bikes with 97 riders were present (not including LEO). All Participants were given a vest pin & bandana to commemorate the escort. LEO led the truck which was followed by the Vietnam Vets. Rosalie a 92 year old WWII Veteran (who was fully dressed in her uniform from 1942) was given the "HONOR" position right behind the Vietnam Vets. She was riding a BMW mc with a side car. (if you ever get to Tallahassee just ask anyone about Rosalie as she is a local legend). The PGR was lined up directly behind Rosalie. Those 3x5's on the PGR bikes was impressive. All other participants followed. LEO did a superb job of providing escort. All intersections were totally closed. Although we were on a 3 lane Hwy, they didn't allow any traffic to come up beside us. A huge Thank You to the following Law Enforcement Agencies. Leon County Sheriff, Wakulla County Sheriff, Tallahassee PD, FHP, & the FSU Police. People lined the route waving & taking pictures. The escort route took us downtown & around the Capitol Buildings before arriving at the sponsoring funeral home. The truck actually got stuck trying to get up the narrow drive but after about 30 minutes it was freed and made it's way into the parking lot. Lunch was then served (hotdogs & hamburgers). Everyone then split up & went their separate ways.
It was a HONOR to escort this Wall to it's temporary home. |

Though I was not there , being in California now, I want to thank all of you. My step-Mother sent me pictures of that day, she was passing thru and saw it, My Daddy, A World War 11 Marine
Korean War Vet ( Air Force) is buried there and I am sure you all made him proud to see all of you and the Wall right near, and I mean real close, to his grave. Thank-you Florida. |
