Mission Report Stage 1
I had the pleasure and privilege of riding a greuling escort with the best group of patriots ever. They stood around in a parking lot until 11 PM and then rode in formation for over an hour in 50 degree temps to honor a hero in another town. The LEOs were terrific, shutting down a freeway so that proper respect could be shown to a fallen warrior and his family. A special thank you to the city officers who presented an appropriate salute at the passing of the flag and the funeral coach. The Marine Corps Honor Guard was impressive as were the others involved from the service.
The reception from the school mates and friends was very touching as they stood a candle light vigil in front of the funeral home.
WELL DONE! THANK YOU!

It was an honor and privilege for this to be my first
mission. Even in their grief, a family member came over and shook hands with
each of us, thanking us for being there. At that moment I knew WHY I was
doing this cold ride in the middle of the night.
Lance
Cpl. Derek W. Jones, may you rest in peace. Words can not express my gratitude
at your service to our country so that we may have freedom. Our prayers our now
with and for your family: wife, child, brothers, sisters, and parents - that
they will be comforted at this time of grief.

As we rode by the mortuary, I noticed some of those young men & women were in blankets and other makeshift insulation to keep out the night. It seemed that one was holding a small child. They truly did want to welcome their friend, Derek, home. They stood in silence and a very dignified, quiet respect as the Marines performed their sad duty and 30 aging strangers did their best to render honors for one of Salem’s best.
The family stood in a corner and seemed in quiet awe as the scene unfolded before them. May they receive strength through peace in the many hard days to follow.

It is the soldier, not the reporter who gives us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet who gives us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

With respect to RickA, if there are riders in the beaverton/SW PDX area that would like to travel to honor Lance Corporal Derek W. Jones, I would submit that we meet/stage at Paradise HD on Cascade at 0730 as well, KSU at 0800.
If this is not appropriate as I am new, please just let me know and I will delete this post. Otherwise, I stand ready for phase 2 of this mission. |

It makes good sense to have a West side assembly as well as Latus Motors on the East side. It eliminates back tracking and gives you more time to assimilate your Starbucks! Warren, pick a central spot and make it "official".
Ride safe. God bless you.
