Allsthrnlady - Did you receive your PG stickers/flags/banners? Should I bring my spare for you?

Anyone riding from my corner of NW Arkansas and wants to ride together to Fayetteville, just let me know. I plan on leaving Decatur about 0730 in case the traffic in downtown Fayetteville is bad. I'd rather arrive too early than a minute too late.
Besides, if I'm early I can drink more of Mary Ann's coffee!

Trip,

I replied to this in the Pope County thread...LOL...but I'll post my reply below. This is a hoot!

 Trip,

I called Twister today in regards to PGR items I ordered and Pay Pal hadn't notified PGR. He said he would get some of the items I ordered mailed today and mail the others when they come in, but doubt very seriously if I get any of it before Saturday. I would appreciate you bringing your spare. I'll be glad to pay you for it. Thank you!

Which way are you going to Fayetteville. You going 102 to 540 or going 59 to 412 then 540?...If your going on 412, I'll decline, but appreciate your offer...412 was where a motorist hit and killed my husband while he was snugging his truck to get out of his way 3 years ago. It's still too hard to go by that sight. Hope you understand.....If your going 102, I'll be happy to meet by 540 and 102 somewhere.

Your welcome to the hot coffee, that's the least I can do for your kind offer.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann,

I'll bring my reserve PGR sticker for you. It doesn't matter to me if you pay me for this one or replace it when you get one.

Either route to Fayetteville is about the same for me. How about we meet at the McDonald's with the NASCAR racer out front, right there at 102 and 540? I'll be there about 7:45 so we can head south by 8:00. I'll be on the blue Gold Wing with the PGR sticker on the windshield.

At least it's not supposed to be as cold tomorrow as it is this morning - brrrr!!

Cheers,
Trip

At every parade I've attended, those that are in the parade throw candy. Should we purchase some?

We had a very nice turnout of riders today, considering the iffy weather. I'd like to thank everyone who brought coffee and especially the state captain for all the work he did. There were several of us from the Ft Smith area who went to the veterans nursing home afterwards. It was a very emotional experience for us all. I hope that a lot more of our riders will take the time to go there when they can. The residents there were so appreciative! Hope everyone had a safe ride home.

I'm so thankful I was given the opportunity to participate in this event today. Not only was it touching to see people come out and honor our veterans, but even more so when we visited the Veteran's Nursing Home. Was hard to choke back tears hearing them reminesce of all they went through.

I have to say, I met some of the nicest, friendliest people today. Thank you to all for making me feel like part of the family.

The link below is pictures taken today, which is somewhat disappointing with us cagers in the back of the parade while the bikers in front only for the reason I wanted to get pictures of all PGR's on their bikes in the parade, plus my camera didn't want to cooperate with good photos either....LOL Some were blurred, some were too light, too dark and some of the dern things didn't take at all....And why it waited for me to close my eyes in one is down right disgraceful.

I have to agree with all of you. A good turnout considering the weather. A nice ceremony with several moments that really touched our hearts.

For those who didn't go to the Veterans home, you really missed something. I wasn't sure what I would say to these guys, but it turned out to be really easy. Once we introduced ourselves, these guys just opened right up. It was amazing to hear these guys talk about experiencing things I've only read about in history books. We met a 99 year-old veteran of World War I (yes, World War I!). We met a gentleman who fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam - three wars! Only the second guy I've ever met who was in all three. Not only that, he was in the Battle of the Bulge and was a POW for 13 months at the Hanoi Hilton. We met another veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, too. I plan on making it a regular event to stop in and visit there.

A big thank you to the folks who brought coffee - Big Jim, Mary Ann and Renee, and the couple that arrived as early as we did on Rock Street (sorry, having a gray moment here and can't remember their names, but they had hot coffee in the back of their Honda minivan).

Oh yeah - a special note to Renee, who complained about trying to follow us down the interstate to Fayetteville: We followed her and Mary Ann back up the interstate out of Fayetteville and my speedometer was reading 75-80 mph the whole time!!

Thanks to all who made it. It was nice to put faces to a lot of names from this forum. Kentucky Hillbilly: I'm going to try to make it to one of your Monday meetings in Fort Smith at the American Legion.

Work commitments prevent me from making the missions on Tuesday and Thursday, but I'll see all of you Friday for the run to Russellville and the Pope County Salute to the Colors. Do we NW Arkansas folks want to meet up again and ride together?

Everyone have a good week and ride safe.

Cheers,
Trip

Trip,

Was the last gentleman we met and talked to at the nursing home a World War I vet? If so, I misundertood and thought him to be in World War II. If my history is correct, the war ended in 1918, so that means if he was in that war he has to be a minimum of 103 years old, at the end of the war and at age 15 when he fought. My reason for thinking World War II was that he asked where my uncle fought wondering if he was there. He might have misunderstood when I mentioned he was killed in World War II.

I'll be there to meet up for the ride to Russellville. Think you mentioned meeting at 12:00 p.m. at McDonald's on 102 and 540. Is this correct?

By-the-way, I think your speedometer's broke.

Mary Ann,

The WWI vet was the gentleman sitting in the first lounge chair in the foyer area. I did the math, too. I figured if he was right about being in WWI, he might be one of those kids that lied about their age when they signed up. Of course, he could be confused, too.

The last guy we talked to was Blackie. He was in the Battle of the Bulge. He said he was no hero, he just ran faster than the Germans. You got a good photo of us sitting with him.

I'll leave home on Friday so I can be at McDonald's about noon. We'll hit the road right after.

Cheers,
Trip

P.S. Speedometer broken? I don't think so!

P.S.S. Hey Jeff - will you be meeting us on Friday? Anyone else?

Trip,

The first gentleman in the lounge chair on the right stated he was 99 years old. That would have made him 11 years old. It was my understanding he was in World War II as well. He might have accidently stated to you World War I.

Will be at McDonald's at noon Friday and hope you have your speedometer checked by then. :)
