28 Oct 2006 5:10 PM Alert
Good Evening from Eufaula:

Been doing a lot of thinking, watching the PGR web site and have asked a few questions. So we're going to make a little change to the "FIRST ANNIVERSARY RIDE FOR THE PGR". On 4 November 2006, instead of the ride from Birmingham to Phenix City then on to Montgomery, lets change the ride to a mission and just go to Montgomery and participate in a mission for - Fundraiser / poker Run for Officer Keith Houts, in memory of Rob Proffitt. See below for specifics:

While in Daytona Beach this past week I received some real disturbing news. I received a phone call from the MPD on trying to help locate the family of one of our fellow bikers, apparently the department due to our PGR and Blue Knights affiliations chose to call me in search of help.

The General Manager of Up the Creek Rob Proffitt who attended the Houts mission with us, was inviloved in a horrible motorcycle accident, and at the time of my phone call the Investigator advised me he would not make it.
Rob is from Chattanooga, and has only been in town a short while, apparently he missed a curve around the Eastdale mall and collided with the median causing very serious injuries.

A little about Rob, and I have only known him a short while. Rob was transfered here to sort out problems at this restaraunt, Rob was also troubled with the death of Officer Houts, and wanted to do something great for his new community and the Police Department, and of course Officer Houts family. Rob contacted Blue Knights Chaplain Eric Jackson, and told him of this idea, Eric referred him to me. Rob was going to host a Memorial Poker Run in memory of Officer Houts, 60% of the proceeds would go to the family, and 40% to buy dash cameras for the Police Vehicles. Rob with assistance from the Blue Knights, was going to have a Poker Run, and then a block party afterwards, Rob had secured over 5000.00 in door prizes, which is unheard of in any fundraiser.
Rob, was getting help from everyone he contacted, now remember he had only been here a few weeks, but fealt he needed to help our community. My job was only to register, and make sure bikers showed up so we could attempt to outfit every vehicle.

So as you see Rob is a very special person, and has a heart of gold, but now he is fighting for his life. Rob has a young daughter back in Chattanooga, and no family in Montgomery.

The last report I had is that he had a 50% chance of survival, and the next two days would tell the story. I did not get a chance to check on him today, because I was traveling back from Daytona, but I have contacted Eric and he wil visit tomorrow, and let me know.

Rob is also an ex Marine. I believe Rob had just registered as a PGR member, as he did attend the Houts mission, but could not go to BHam, and I believe he went to the Vets funerals in Prattville.
I ask for each and everyones prayers as Rob now fights for his own life after giving many unselfish hours to aid his fellow man and his family.

I will let everyone know his condition as I will be making a trip to the hospital tomorrow and visit with his family, and tell them just how special their son is to all of us.

At this time, the fundraiser at Sams November 4th is still a go, but I will ask everyone to keep November 5th open, until I can find out if it is still going on. I will volunteer to assist Up the Creek, but may not be able to secure his contacts. I know Rob would want this to go, and if it the will of god, I will give Rob my all to make this dream come true.

Penguin
Paul Reynolds

and read -

I have just returned from Jackson Hospital visiting with Robs aunt, his mother and father had left finally to get some much needed rest.

First of all I would like to thank Blue Knights chaplain Eric Jackson for answering my call on checking on Rob and his family. Eric was able to take his mom into the room and have prayer with him. Also I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Walter McNeeley and Gary Kelley for their visit also, they are of the CMA. Darrell Smith contacted them and asked them to visit, thanks my brother for all your help.

Robs condition is very serious as he landed on his chest after flying approximately 40 yards in the air. Rob apparently did not see the block median that seperates the Sears entrance of Eastdale Mall and the turn off to Northern Boulevard. He broke 5 ribs, and punctured both lungs numerous times. The good news is he broke no extremities and has no head trauma. Although still in very serious danger, his blood pressure has become stable, and is no longer on medication for this. He has some kidney disorder due to leaks of fluids. Rob is in a medical induced coma, and also a medical induced paralysis.

and sadly, please read -

Sorry to send this again, but now we will also honor Rob Proffitt, who passed away today, and his wonderful family. As you can see this mission is two fold for two great Americans. Rob I promise to you, I will give it my all, to make you proud of all of us, as we shall ride in honor of Officer Houts, and Rob Proffitt. Shall you share the heavens with Keith and all the other heroes who have passed before you, take care my friend you are now amongst angels.

So what do you say that we honor these two fine Americans while celebrating our Anniversary. That way, we can conduct a Feel Good Mission for these two fine individuals and honor the Patriot Guard's First Successful Year honoring our Veterans (Past, Present and Future)

I'm open to any suggestions. In the mean time, God Bless and Ride Safely. Dinky

Thank you Jim, I am honestly at a loss of words, and yes this would be a feel good mission, as the PGR has honored both of these great Americans. The First Anniversary ride held here would be a great honor, and to all I am indebted to, for both our heroes and their families.

Thanks all, isnt Robs mom great, I will be posting directions to both the Holiday Inn and Up the Creek Restaraunt, they are only about a mile apart. I have also assigned a couple of local PGR brothers that will be escorting yall on the Poker Run. The PGR booth will be up and running early, and will be waiting for your arrival. I am still at a loss of words three weeks ago I took on a task alone, and today I have more help than I ever realized, and I am so thankful. This will be a Feel Good Mission, as you have already heard from a very proud mom, who feels very good about her sons accomplishment, and about a family who honors her son, and his hero Keith Houts. Vicky I told you the PGR is something special, and now you are a member of the greatest family on earth.

Here is an itenerary for events that day for the Houts/ Proffitt Memorial Ride at Up the Creek Restaraunt on Eastern Boulevard: Registration starts at 0900, with first bike out at 1100 hours, honestly I wouldnt be their at 0900 hours. The ride will travel through Montgomery, Wetumpka, Prattville and back to Montgomery, this will be on your own, but I have guides that will ride with yall to show you the way. All locations will have bathroom, drinks, foods and a place to mingle. The last stop will be at Itledos Tavern, we will all meet their at 1430 hours, and KSU at 1500 hours for an escorted ride back to Up the Creek, the last vehicle in the procession will be a Nascar Replica, please have them flags a flyin. Cards will then be turned in and winner announced later, A block party with a band will start at 1600 hours and play until, and as promised the Penguin will sing as promised for everyones participation. Adult refreshments along with non alcoholic beverages will be sold outside, but please patronize the restaraunt it is a great place to eat. Rob secured some great raffle prizes, around 5000.00 worth, and they will be drawn later. So as you see this will be a great time for all, and it is within a mile of the motel. Afterwards their will be a meet and greet at the Holiday Inn. The PGR tent will be set up early, and will be manned by newest ride captain Roadstar Joe( Toby Keith look a like ), Tin Star, Snaps lovely wife Linda, and our beloved leader Twister when he arrives. I hope that everyone will try to attend this wonderful feel good mission, as I have felt good putting this together. The Montgomery area has been hit with numerous hero losses in the past two months, to include three soldiers, and two Police Officers, so as Dinky Dau said what better place to have a feel good mission. Remember the Holiday Inn has rooms at military prices, and if they are booked the Wyngate Inn behind Up the Creek will also cut their rates for you. If you need to know more contact me at 334 799 1109, or email Kingshadow506@charter.net. Ancient 1 no rain that day my friend.

Yes my friend, this will be great, to honor two great American heros on a feel good mission. Thanks Sheila for always assisting me and for having a staging point from the east side of Alabama. We had a meeting last night to finalize the ride. The event will be awesome, it will kind of have a carnival effect when you see it. T and T Cycles will be there and are donating a small chopper for raffle. This community has been more than gracious to make this !st annual ride a huge success, now I can only wait to see if I did all the right things, my heart tells me I did. I look forward to seeing everyone I know and especially the ones I may not have met yet. Everyone please be careful on your travels, and thanks for letting me be a part of such a wonderful mission.
