The 10 day window for the 110th return is October 20- 30.  This is the Company my son, SPC Joe Graves, KIA, 25 Jul 06 belonged to.  The military has asked me to fly out from California to meet the boys as they come home - minus one fallen hero.  Does anyone out there want to contact Sgt. Hemstreet at Ft. Hood for details and possible escort?

We are down to a three- day window.  Oct. 28, 29 and 30.  I'm going to do my best to get out there.  Plans aren't coming together well.  Sgt. Dean Hemstreet is the contact person on base and has details.  I don't know how the process and we have not been officially invited.  Does anyone have contacts on Ft. Hood?

Also, what's the name of the Harley dealer just outside of Killeen?  If I make it I might want to rent a bike.

Thanks...Kevin

Kevin,

The H-D is Fort Hood H-D at http://www.forthoodhd.com/default.asp

Today I took it upon myself to get the answers on how to get the PGR on post.  It will be some time before I have the answer(s), but will post here when I know.  Every other post allows it, so I don't know if there will be problem here or not.

I talked with Sgt. Hemstreet this morning and it looks like day of arrival is probably not the best idea.  They will be p/u'd by bus on the base and then transported right to the gym, reunited with the families and off on block leave.

However, on November 9, a new memorial for fallen heroes is being recognized.  Apperantly there will be roads closed, press on hand, etc.  A pretty big deal.  I can't make both trips, so I am considering coming out for the memorial.  That's when my son's plaque will be added...I am told.

Thanks for the info Steve.

Plans are in the works to attend the MP dedication of their memorial and to honor SPC Graves by PGR. We have been invited to attend the function on 9 November 2006. Steve Hudson has made it possible for us to ride on Fort Hood as a group, but we will all need to wear the mandatory safety gear for motorcycle operators.

I am in contact with Cpt Marks but since he is in transit at this time, information is slow to arrive. If anyone has local Fort Hood contact information, please post it here or email me directly. Once we find out the time and location of this event, we'll post the plan for attending this ceremony.

Sounds like it is coming together for the 9th.  FYI...The actual date the troops are coming back is Oct 30 at 1:15am.

They meet their families and then get block leave.

I am working on the logistics of getting to Ft. Hood in time to rent a hog from Ft. Hood Harley.  I'm not sure the store will be open early enough to make that happen.  More recon needed. I get into Houston Wednesday PM.

Thanks for all the support!

For anyone planning to rent upon arrival do your homework. Unless they've started something new Fort Hood Harley does not have rental bikes. The closest I know of to Fort Hood is the Waco dealer.

Thanks for the heads up guys.  I'll fall back to plan B and leave the riding to you guys.
It is was just a thought.  I probably should be at my daughter-in-laws side at this emotional time anyway.  Looking forward to meeting fellow PGR's in Texsas.

Thanks again for your support.
