We have contacted the Polk County S.O twice and also the funeral director. We have had no response from either which is understandable considering the magnitude of the loss and the size of the tribute that is being arranged for these two Homeland Heroes. Based on this, we are asking that the Patriot Guard Riders as a group stand down. However, we have heard news reports that the public is welcome. Any individuals that would like to go as members of the community are encouraged to do so. If you want to get together with other riders please work through mlparco from the post above. Ride safe!
John Minch (aka slowpoke) Florida Senior Ride Captain
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pending Mission Deputy Vernon Matthew "Matt" Williams, 39 and father of three, a K9 officer with the Polk County Sheriff's Department was shot and killed this afternoon, September 28, 2006, after a routine traffic stop went bad. Also killed in the altercation was Deputy Williams' Police Dog Diogi.
Sr. Ride Captain John Minch will be working on making contact this morning.
Thank you in advance,

they are still hunting for the killer, I think in Florida that killing a police K-9 is the same as killing a human officer, so if that's the case then this guys is getting two counts of murder against him.
I hope they find this bospor and toss him down a very deep sinkhole. |

We had tears rolling down our cheeks last night as we watched the news and the Sherrif was being interviewed. The guy that did it is (very likely) an illegal alien and he had no driver's license. It ised to be Orlando was the "Happiest Place on Earth" (Disney). Unfortunately this year Orlando was labeled the most dangerous city in the USA with the most murders per capita. Zip-a-Dee-Do-Da. The man hunt for this guy is HUGE. I hope they get him and he gets what he deserves (being deported back to Haiti)
We'll try to be there, with our flags and our tears rolling donw our cheeks.

Deputy Williams, I thank you for your service. Without the courage of you , and your comrades, our homeland security would not exist.
Stand down, your shift is over.

After spending much time and learning much from an outstanding Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer I can tell you first hand the killing a K-9 Officer is indeed the same as killing a human officer.
Therefore, I want to send thoughts and prayers in a deepest time of need to this officer's family. My GOD look upon you and bless you for HE is with you always. |

The shooter has been found, hiding buried under a fallen tree in dense vegetation. According to news broadcasts, when he was ordered to show his hands he would only show one hand. He had a gun in the other hand, and ultimately was shot and killed by members of a SWAT Team.
How horrible.....two Deputies lost (yes, Canine Diogi IS a Deputy)......for a traffic stop. Absolutely devastating!
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Vernon "Matt" Williams. May the Lord comfort you in the difficult days ahead.
Godspeed Deputy Williams......Godspeed......

| Fellow Officers, Friends and Patriot Guard Riders. This has caused pain for many in our great state of Florida. We must know this will never stop. There will be danger in any approach that LEO takes in doing their duty. That is WHY I not only attend KIA's Mission, but as a man, I must try to attend the Mission of every HERO. My family and I offer our sincerest condolences to the famliy, friends and the law enforcement community. Rest easy Deputies. Shift complete, job well done.
A traffic stop!!! What a shame. The suspect was killed when asked to surrender now he'll have to deal with the Lord. Remember, there are no lawyers, ACLU or liberal judges in the Lord's court.

To : Talk2e, a very large number of "routine traffic stops" end up in gunfire and loss of life. In my NACOP( National Association of Chiefs of Police) magazine, when I read through the obits, I am always amazed at how many officers get killed for routine stops. Some of them are killed by the "alleged perpetrator" and many are also victims of traffic accidents. We have a law in Florida now that requires drivers to move away from a traffic stop. Statistically, it's riskier to be a LEO in Florida than going to Iraq.
God Bless all the LEOs and Troops who put themselves in harm's way so that we may be safe here. I will pray for Matt's wife and children. They've got a tough life ahead of them. To Diogi : Woof. God has a special place in heaven for Police K-9s.
