Help on the HomeFront in Florida

Florida PGR Riders I need your ideas:

How should the State of Florida Help on the Homefront be organize? No one person can keep up with what's need in the entire state.

  • What do you think should be our number 1 Help on the Homefront events or program?

  • How many representatives do we need, where and why?

  • Should we have full blown missions for every single returning Hero or should we have PGR members that wish to welcome home a Hero do so and make a post in the Florida area?

Enough for a start, we will crawl at first, then walk and finally we will be up and running with your help and support. You may contact me via e-mail at: Shaman.vnvmc@gmail.com

Dan is also one of our Newest Ride Captains,  His work to date is nothing short of outstanding and I'm sure that he will be an excellent leader.

I'm so glad to see this position filled!!! With things like Vets day fast approaching, I'd love to see us participate as a group at events. If you need help in the Central Florida area, please let me know. (officially putting my hat in the ring for Central Florida area).. Wife is a PAM (Proud Army Mom) and would also love to be involved in whatever we can do!! She has seen many posts on their website about awesome welcome homes for troops and has always wanted to see us do more in this area.

I think we should make an effort for anyone coming home...even if only 10 can attend, they would know we as an organization stand behind them and appreciate what they have done. It does not take 50-100 riders to make that statement.

Thought this was a good time and place to introduce everyone to the Florida Help on the Homefront! I want to emphasize that our priority continues to be Honoring and Showing Respect to our Fallen Heroes and their Families.

"I wanted to sharesome information with each of you I challenge all of you to embrace the HOTH program. It makes a difference in the attitude and morale of PGR riders plus significantly improves the quality of life for all soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines we come in contact with."by Joel" cgbrocksmith State Captain Illinois

As with any program we need your support. Currently we are looking for Veterans Services Officers in different parts of the State of Florida. We also need PGR members who are willing to be Point of Contacts for Veterans Homes, Guard, Reserve units and military installations thru out the state of Florida. If interested just e-mail me. Rides/Missions to Veterans Homes and Hospitals don't need to large groups 4 to 10 is great (they maybe classified as Local Missions). Get to know these residents by name, thank them for their service. Don't be disappointed if only a few PGR members participate. Always contact the Activities Director. Be careful with taking photos. Veterans Home prohibit them. Welcome Home and Thanks,

This is also posted in Events Section ofthe Help on the Homefront area :

Quoted from a previous post by the Illinois State Captain with his permission

THIS PROGRAM ENHANCES OUR PRIMARY MISSION:

LCPL Kyle Price Ride----knowing our presence made a difference to Kyle's family. Kyle's mom and dad now attend missions to lend their support and a shoulder to cry on of someone who has felt the same pain". I believe because we came to support them. A family who could not even talk to each other after their lose now talks with other families about the after effects. PGR HOTH helped make that happen.

Joe Keck---the courage, strength and smile of this man still leaves me in awe. He was afraid he would come home and nobody would care. Not hardly -- the turn out for him was as special as the man it was for. The welcome home and the party for him showed we do care and will be there for him in the future. we'll always be ready to help these heros --now , tomorrow, forever. PGR HOTH helped make that happen.

Tyler Ziegel---it was an honor to be there to help Ty. We were there to show our thanks for all he has given and his courage not to give up on life. We also showed our rspect for the lady he is to marry. They both are very special people and it is with deep pride that we escort them on their wedding day. Community support and ours let Ty know we thank him and do care for and respect him and his family. PGR HOTH helped make that happen

ILLINOIS Vets Home Visit - Quincy - All I can say is that those ear to ear smiles from the vets was worth an eternity of thanks yous. PGR enhanced the lives that day...PGR HOTH helped make that happen. My Asst SC stated,"makes one proud to be fortunate to be an American, where peoplesuch as these are the rule instead of the exception. and thankful to belong to an organization who acknowledges the service, strength and sacrifices these people have made Joel"

Shaman,

The last time we tried to do a Welcome Home it was limited in success.  Many families went to Ft. Stewart and picked up their loved one in person so they didn't come by bus.  We also had difficulty pining down the arrival time.  The half dozen troops we did get to greet were very happy to see us and it was extremely gratifying to shake their hands and pat them on the back with a big thanks and welcome home.

On the ride home that day it occured to me we might be more successful if we did a send off instead.  It seems most units leave at the same time making it possible to see more troops at once.  Additionaly it would be great to let them know when they are leaving we are here for them and we care.

Just something to think about.  Either way I hope we get to do more of them, they deserve our respect and support.

Shadow Dog, thanks for your comments. For sure we have some difficulties to over come. It will take a team effort for sure. We can only do the best we can and strive to do better! I don't have all the answers and I am like a sponge right now absorbing everything I can for every member of the PGR. All I can say for now is we will show all the respect and welcome homes to as many as we can if ask to. The key maybe having as much dialog with their families and units. The only one I am working on right now (not confirmed) the First Sarget told me he wanted to wait until all of his troops were home before we did anything and he requested we have a BBQ in a non public place. Thru a local Veterans council I have been able to get the American Legion to host the Welcome Home BBQ for all the troops and their families and of course the PGR is and will continue to be the Driving force in making it all happen. Keep your ideas and comments coming maybe it will inspire other to make comment/suggestions or ideas. Thanks Again

John and Pam Denham (From Central Florida):
I have tried contacting you about Florida Help on the HomeFront via your e-mail address in your profile with no response. The PGR certainly can use your help. I am wandering what role you you are interseted in? Possibly being a Florida PGR Veterans Service Officer for your area?

Thanks and please contact me via e-mail at usavet@patriotguard.org.
