We have a U.S. Marine who is deploying to Iraq. He is departing DIA (Denver International Airport) He is to arive at the airport at 12:00 Sunday 9-17-06. He was involved in the SAR (Search and Rescue) Mission in Colorado searching for another Marine. He is from Africa and is serving in the Marines of a country which has adopted him. When he is able to become a citizen of this country he is ready. Here we have a Marine willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for a country that has not allowed him to be a citizen of yet. I think that we need to make sure that we show him that we are behind him in his service to OUR country. I also would like to get a state wide e-mail on this matter. We need to be staged NLT (No Later Than)11:00 at the 45 min parking lot into DIA.

I will be there. I met this Marine while I was up helping with the SAR. We talked for quite a few minutes and he seems like a really nice guy. He may not be a U.S. citizen but he is serving our country. I think this shows how great of a person he is. We need to show him that Americans are there to support him and that we are thankful for what he is doing for us.

I would like to show this Marine that even though this is not his nation of birth and he is not a citizen WE are behind his mission. I want him to know that we care about him and his buddies. I will be there with the little ones so that he knows that we as a country care about him and his service to our country. I hope that he will gain his citizenship to this country that he has chosen to serve. I will be at the 45 min parking area with flight information so that we can send this Marine off with the gratitude he deserves for protecting all of us.

Hey David;

I am a PGR "newbie" and have not been able to attend any PGR missions as of yet. However, my schedule for tommorrow is clear and as a former Marine I would be honored to accompany the riders from the Colo/Spgs area to DIA to send off this Marine to Iraq.

Where should I be and what time?

I agree 100%, I will be there if I can wake up in time! That young Marine is one fine man, I chatted with him a little on Wed 9/6 at the search site.

I will have both my boys with me too!

ALL MEMBERS ATTENDING this send off for Deon.

Please understand that under unforseen cirrumstances, our State Capt. Dave, his wife Tammy, their little ones and I will not be able to help send off Deon. Please give him huge hugs for all of us. Let him know our hearts are with him and we would be there if we could. Amy knows this Marine, so she will help guide you in meeting him.

Hopefully I will have more information on which flight he is taking out before any of you leave. If I do not, I will keep in contact with Amy.

chuckbotkin,
I am truly sorry that us 3 will be not riding. If you can ride up to DIA, you can meet up with the other members at staging in the 45 minute parking. I do not know who is planning on riding up from Colorado Springs. Welcome to PGR brother.

Please ride and drive safe brothers and sisters all 3 of us are with you.

I have no idea if we will get the information before or after we arrive at the staging area at DIA. But I'll chance it hoping everything works out. Since I've not heard anything as to the leaving of riders from the springs to DIA, I'll be at the normal staging at I-25 and Academy at the Denny's between 8:45 and 9:00.

I am very happy to have taken part in this send off today. The hours of waiting proved very worthwhile when we were able to make his checkin process a little faster and made sure that he was able to get on his plane in time. The many thank yous that we received from Deon made me realize how important it was for us to make sure that he knew that people supported him. Yes there was confusion but the goal was achieved (very much a group effort) and I think we made his depature a little better.

I am so sorry I missed this, I just could not wake up with only 2 hours of sleep :( - Did anyone get Deon their address? I would love to send him care packages once he gets settled -

I have pictures from this mission, how do I submit them. I hope in the future that the communication with the dispatchers will be better, we could of had many many more riders there to send him off. Thanks Dave, amy and everyone else that made sure that this mission was dispatched. I would rather deploy on a mission and try to figure things out then do nothing at all. Mission accomplished. I am not sure if anyone wrote down his address, but i know that we did get the correct spelling of his name. Also I would like to thank the staff at Frontier Airlines for the help we received, see help comes from everywhere when people know why we are there. God Bless Deon

I feel the same way djmoravek. That's why I wish the thread had been able to be put in when I originally submitted it Friday night for Dave. That way you can plan!!!

djmoravek,

Sorry you did not have much notice on the mission. But Dave and Tammy Hall and I went to Loveland on Friday night for a party for this marine and found out that he was leaving Sunday. Chelle had called me at that time and I gave Dave my phone so she could get someone to post the mission.

I know you are new to PGR but most missions don't give us a lot of time to work on. Just like our mission on Thursday, we had a total of 4 of us show up but we were there.

I do know that there was no way of Dave his wife nor I to make it since something very unforseen had come up.

I did try keeping Amy and her sister Chelle up to date and had her on the phone most of Sunday. I had to contact someone to get as much information as I could since we did not have that information.

Please be patient with the missions. Sometimes we have a lot of time, and sometimes we don't even get but a couple hours notice.

Thank you for being there with Amy and the rest of PGR. Glad the ones that could make it made it safely to and from DIA.

Amy thank you so much for dealing with me on your cell phone most of the time you were at DIA you were definately a blessing on Sunday. And Chelle, thank you for putting up with my call so early on Sunday morning.
